Anyone Else Feel This Way?

So, I've been consuming quite a lot of high-level Smash on Twitch the last couple of weeks. I'm extremely new to the community, so I'm no authority on pro-level play, but is anyone else tired of seeing about 90% of players going either Fox or Falco?

I mean, they are really great characters, and I understand that, but I feel like watching Fox and Falco play is the same thing - Laser, laser, laser, grab, up-tilt, dead. Obviously this is an over-exaggeration and an over-simplification of the characters, but I guess I just want to see more diversity in character selection.

Does anyone else feel the same at times?

Well, it is bound to happen I feel. Good characters will tend to be picked most often and it just so happens that Fox/Falco are probably the most rewarding characters for most people to play. I am unsure of 90% being the golden number, but yes, I would like to see more variety.

I personally like that there are so many foxes and falcos. They are fun to play, they are fun to play against, and imo they are fun to watch. They combo and kill basically all the other characters very efficiently, but they also get combod and killed by a lot of the other characters as well. They bring the best out of both players and allow everyone to look cool.

90% of players playing Fox or Falco is very exaggerated. Take notes of who plays what characters and you'll realize the objective numbers aren't that big. Look for other characters and you'll notice that several players play them too

Fox is really popular because he's supposedly the best character in the game, fun to use, and easy to learn the essential techs with

I agree with the op to some extent. I don't like watching space animal dittos, but I like watching space animal vs whatever. One thing I don't understand, though is that people these days seem less inclined to cheer for the underdog, especially in certain regions. For example, when I watch SoCal tournaments, the commentators seem upset when an upset happens. Has anyone else noticed this?

You can.'t exactly cheer for both at the same time
True, although, some level of non-bias morality would be better appreciated when it comes to commentating. I think the main issue is that whoever happens to be walking by is handed the mic. MLG tends to have higher standards for hiring commentators, so we should see some higher level of commentary soon.

Also, I agree that 90% is an over-exaggeration, it was just to make a point. I would also like to make the argument that because everyone is focusing on fox/falco, other characters are less developed than fox or falco.

This is like saying watching any Basketball Player is dribble, dribble, cross-over, pull-up, score. What one could argue Melee lacks in character diversity it makes up for in spades in playstyle diversity. Just thinking of SSS last night, watching DEHF compared to Westballz, or Fiction compared to SFAT compared to Lucky: its like watching totally different characters. There's plenty of character diversity in the scene anyways. SSS last night had just many spacies as non spacies in top 8.

Also trust me you'd be wishing you had spacies back if you were around back in 09-10ish when we use to get all the jiggs-jiggs/jiggs-peach gf... *shivers*

That's fair, floaties do get annoying.
