For all of you who are certain that WDing has been confirmed, I ask you this.

If you have a gun and a person in the room, is murder confirmed?

Just because airdodging and sliding is confirmed, does that mean WDing is confirmed?

Cause if you believe the second statment, you might as well go with the first as well.

Who said wavedashing was confirmed, we're just confident. And I'm mad this thread turned into a good player vs casual player thread. I just wanted the anti WDers to refute my points (all of them) which they barely did (a couple did) what I really got was WDing is a glitch. Next time I do this, I'll have a defintion of wavedashing, and why it's not a glitch.

I told my friend today that the first thing I'll do after getting Brawl is check to see if WDing is still in. If it isn't, I'm going to cry.

And I will.

Sorry. It just seems like alot of Pro-WD'ers are overly confident to the point where I cant tell if they are merely guessing optimistically or actually believing it's confirmed.

And Ban Heim? An exploit/glitch is nothing to cry over. It's one freaking move.

Personally, I believe any move that circumvents lag is B.S. but what do I know. I'm just a casual.

Glitch/exploit or not, I've still fallen in love with it. It's not even the fact that it's useful in fights that I like. I just love wavedashing, wavelanding, WDing into combos, grabs, smashes and whatnot. It just looks cool and everything flows together well.

And moves that cut lag shouldn't be considered B.S. Competitive fighting games are all about trying to reduce lag and increase your character's speed. WDing in itself doesn't even give you that much of an advantage over someone that doesn't WD, so I don't see what the big deal with it is anyways. One of my friends doesn't WD at all and he can still keep up with me most of the time. If you don't WD, your biggest obstacle is getting used to playing against people who do. You have to know the basic WDing techniques and once you get those down and understand exactly what WDing does, you can keep up with your WDing opponents.

From the way you worded that last statement, you should have a bigger problem with L-cancelling (which was intentional from what I know) than WDing.

These threads are almost as annoying as the "Items should be allowed in tournies" threads. Dear God people, wait for the freaking game to come out and then call a verdict! and besides, wasn't Smash a game that bragged about being easy to pick up and play but hard to master? Taking out advanced techs seems like a step backward.

I still can't see why new people can't accept the Wavedash and it's (Mild, if any) difficulty.

Even if you did make it easier, it wouldn't break the boundaries between casual and professional players. Obviously they think that, and as such, opt for its removal.

Wavedashing is difficult? :p

Agreed.
Anti-wavdashers need to get more creative arguments.

Thank you, Micahc and you too, Eternal phoenix Fire. Leaving old techniques and adding new ones helps in that way.

This may have been said before, but if WDing IS in, how will it work with a Wii remote I wonder? o_O

Right now the scale is tipping towards WDing being out ( With all this video footage out now, it's kind of hard to believe that all of them happen to not know how to WD).

But lets just wait till EFA, then we should know for sure.

Lots of people don't know how to wavedash, even some that do can't get it done properly. The vids aren't showing pros, they're showing average joes [note how most can't even recover].

^^Well, it's basically a good response to those who can't deal with wavedashing and advance techniques. They don't think it's "honorable," or "fair." There's really no point in being "anti-wavedashing" unless you're the type of person described in that link.

We don't even know if you can air-dodge in a direction yet. Someone close this.
Well, I guess he technically didn't say we can air-dodge in a direction, but this confirms air-dodging. (Link goes down while dodging, but I guess you could argue that he's just falling... mostly likely it's just like Melee though.)

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007...ay-super-smash-bros-brawl-using-the-wii-mote/
(watch the bottom video about how to use the Wii remote solo style.)

Not sure if everyone is aware of this yet so...

DID YOU HEAR THAT EVERYONE!!? AIR-DODGING CONFIRMED!!! So yeah, I won't say that wavedashing is most likely in, but it's definitely got a better than 50% chance. Eh, who am I kidding, it's probably in!

This is a post I made from GFAQs a while ago, it too concerns the play to win article:
__________________________________________________

Wavedashing IS technically a glitch. It fits the definition of a glitch in a videogame, however close to the borderline it may be.

It IS ABSOLUTLEY not a gamebreaking glitch, and only someone uneducated on the subject will cling onto the fact that it is.

It being a glitch is irrelevant.

Here is my overall views on wavedashing:

Wavedashing is a glitch, scrubs think that this means it shouldn't be used, while competitive players use it and have fun with it.

http://www.sirlin.net/Features/feature_PlayToWinPart1.htm

Being a scrub is not neccesarily a bad thing, but you better not play with a competitive player, otherwise you'll only make both of you frustrated.

A scrub and a noob are completelly different things.

Noobs can play with:

Noobs, Competitives, and Scrubs without any disputes

Scrubs can play with:

Noobs, Other Scrubs

Competetives can play with :

Noobs, other Competetives.

I dunno I play with scrubs sometimes. They say I use cheap stuff so I don't use adv. techs and beat them anyways. Then they start complaining that I use the c-stick >.>

Exactly, there are disputes when a competetive plays a scrub.

Slowly starting to enjoy my mothertongue again. :)
Wavedashing has alot fault. When you do it, you have a ten frame lag where you are commited to the wavedash. You might as well ask for Dash Dancing to be removed since it makes it possible to move faster, thus, reducing the need for sheilds and the like. This in turn would mean that you can't change directions fast and you don't have a burst of speed in the beginning which would make the game alot slower. You can do everything you said besides waveshining without wavedashing (Luigi can do a chain grab by wavedashing only since he is too slow and slippery, but it does less damage than all other chain grabs).

All you would do is make characters like ICs and Luigi worse while making characters who dash dance and don't use wavedash like CF better. =/ To sum it up, wavedashing can be punished and cannot be abused unless you use it to move around with characters like Luigi. People complain about that instead of shffling because that is what is easiest to see and shffling is definitely not a glitch.

If I was a developer, I would leave it in. 1. Saves money to not put in a special code to keep wavedashing from working. 2. Tourney people will be happy. 3. Casuals don't give a **** because they don't know **** about it. So yeah. . . .
[/topic] If casuals are upset by them losing to someone using WD, they should learn it. Keeping WD has no disadvantages, removing it does.

From reports we've witnessed, two statements seem to ring on the subject.

1) Wavedashing is apparently impossible for anyone thus far.
2) Air Dodging can be done multiple times, and you can jump afterwards.

If I had to make a prediction on these statements, I would say it appears they've removed the ability to air-dodge in a direction.

Just listen before you post. Hear me out. I've actually thought this through.

It's been said now by people who have hands-on experience with Brawl that they found wavedashing impossible. However, with the way the physics engine works, that wouldn't really be possible in any way, shape, or form.

That is, unless air-dodging was reworked. We've also heard reports that it was possible to jump after an air-dodge, rather than being immobilized until you reached the ground again. Now, this, in my mind, would make recovery absolutely broken. Think of it. Jump. Air dodge right. Jump. Air dodge right. Air dodge right. Air dodge right. Up B. You're safe.

That is, unless you could no longer air-dodge right.

It seems to me that from videos I've seen, air-dodging no longer works as it did in Melee. I believe that when you air dodge, you keep falling, but you become invulnerable in the air momentarily. Sort of like before, except gravity continues to pull you down.

This would fix every hole in every theory involving wavedashing thus-far that I know of. If you couldn't air dodge in a direction, wavedashing would be impossible. It would also fix any recovery problems involved with multiple air-dodge/jumps while in the air.

I believe this is how the game's air-dodging mechanic will work this time around. Thoughts?

Cross: Your referring to the single mention by the person from gamespot who also isn't capable of wavedashing in melee and was using a wiimote instead of a classic controller. I highly doubt I would be able to wavedash with a wiimote the first time I play the game.

Judging by how Link (ahh sh*t, it was Mario. Stupid green suit) was bent over when he slid backwards, it looks like a roll to me ( I could be wrong, IDK).

But seriously, wait till E for all and LET THIS DIE.

That's Mario, not Link.

Mario's roll doesn't have him sliding back on his belly, or create that much dust. You can also see that he starts the animation before he hits the ground.

You'd be grasping for straws to say that isn't wavelanding (or some form of it). So those people thinking that the Wario GIF wasn't proof enough, this should fit the bill.

This is my first post , and i've been keeping up with all the threads for a few months now. But i have to say it makes me sick that people don't want wave dashing in brawl. If there was no wave dashing i would NOT buy the game. It takes out too much strategy and makes the game too basic. Why do i want to play a multi-player fighting game based on strategy when new players will be able to put up a fight against people who have been playing for years. This will kill the tournament system. Everyone who wave dashes knows how much more fun the game got when you learned it. it got more fun because it took the game to a new level. It added more strategy. Why do you think chess is so superior to checkers?

Smash 64 got along fine without wavedashing. Perhaps we just didn't know what we were missing.

Why does Luigi stop so suddenly like that? Is there a barrier just left of him that I'm not seeing, or does the Ftilt halt sliding motion like a Fsmash not done with Cstick? If neither of those is the case, what's with the sudden halt of motion? He should slide for miles if his traction is anything like Melee.
