Something else that’s come to notice lately is a suposed confirmation of an Animal Crossing character in Brawl. While speculation has been rife of a representative ever since Smashville was shown, this could be the first news heard regarding a character.

The following is an aparent interview with Katsuya Eguchi, one of the main AC creators for Famatsu.

FAMITSU: Have you been approached to contribute Animal Forest elements for the new Smash Bros. game?

KATSUYA EGUCHI: Yes, and there is quite a funny story to it. A few months after E3 2006, (Masahiro Sakurai) contacted me and asked if I’d like to develop possible Animal Forest ideas for Smash Bros. Originally, we settled on just a quick, simple Animal Forest item, but with the success of Wild World and the Animal Forest film, he asked if I’d be up for designing additional elements. [Laughs] Fast forward a few months and I had stage and character concepts created. Sakurai chose his favorite of the stage concepts, slightly tweaked it to his liking, and we together decided on the final Animal Forest character, which is a very fun character to play. With both the stage and character I utilized ideas from the games. For example, if you play the stage at night, the sky will be dark. If you play in the winter, expect to see snow, and leaves in the autumn time. And yes, trees will be decorated on Christmas! It’s really something else. I worked very hard on this one little stage! [Laughs] The Animal Crossing character is very much like the one in the games. You know, he will use his axe, fishing rod, bug catching net, and everything else from the games.

Before you get jumping, the fact is there is simply no source for this. It first appeared on Gamefaqs and after poking around Famitsu’s website, there’s no mention of this, or any new Brawl or Animal Crossing news at all. So until a screen appears from a magazine, concider this false. Nice try Gamefaqs.

I say the chances of it being true are...60% But how the **** would you use a fishing rod as a weapon O_o? Tether recovery? I doubt it...

Hmm, this seems like yet another sourceless rumor that can't really be trusted... does someone intend for this to be the new "Ice Climbers and G&W won't be in" thing? I mean, saying that a kinda generic human will actually be the AC representative is a pretty big statement after all, especially to the Nook, Resetti and K.K. fans.

Since there's really only 4 potential playable characters though, this rumor could end up having a little grain of truth anyway...

Some extremely poor quality scans of said interview in the most recent Weekly Famitsu, sourced by a different GameFaqs poster.

EDIT: Or rather, not even scans, but poor quality photos. I'll see if I can track this issue down.

I kinda hope it's fake... sorry AC lovers, I'm sure it's a great game... it's just... the main characters are kind of, how shall I say this, generic? Not iconic or interesting enough? I don't mind if an AC character is in, but there better be a huge roster of awesome other characters. Anyone feel me on that?

You know, I'd main AC character just because it would be hilarious to beat the crap out of people and win with them, they just looks so stupid. Generic is the STUPIDEST excuse for them not getting in. Pokemon trainer beats the CRAP out of that reason.

Haha, nice. All this fuss over Mr. Resetti!

EDIT:
^^I didn't mean generic is a reason they can't be in, I'm just saying it's my opinion as to why I DON'T WANT them in. Well, like I said, I wouldn't really mind too much, just not my thing. So I hope you weren't assuming I am stupid...

I believe it 100% and can't wait to see what this "Smashkid" looks like.

But, if the character does turn out to be an animal, then I want it to be Tom Nook. Everyone else just kind of comes and goes, but you can always count on Tom to be there for you. Well, at least from the hours of 7:00am-11:00pm, which is a great deal. I've never met someone who wanted to work in his or her store sixteen hours a day, every day of the week. God bless his little heart.

I can't claim to know much about Animal Crossing, but considering that we already have an item, a stage, and an assist trophy, I'd say it was pretty reasonable to expect an A.C. character in the game. With Resetti out of the way, the article has -as has been stated- about a 1/3 chance of being true. So unless they can come up with move sets for Tom Nook or K.K. , the generic Human's chances are looking fairly reasonable.

I've always wanted the Animal Crossing main character, it's sad so many people hate the idea :urg:

Let's hope this article changes their minds or something so that when it is confirmed, they don't ***** about it.

couldnt u name the main character???
You also name the town, as well. But since Sakurai has taken the liberty to name the stage (aka town) "Smashville", then I figure it's safe to assume that if there's an AC character and it's a generic human then he will have probably already named him/her.

EDIT:
*SECOND POINT*
You can name your trainer in the Pokemon games, but Sakurai already gave him the name "Pokemon Trainer".
I see a pattern.

You know this for a fact?

Just because he plays on Saturdays at 8:00 doesn't mean his chances are out. It does mean that his probability is lowered, but it doesn't mean he's out of the question. A programmer can easily come up with a code that says: "If any player chooses K.K. Slider, selects the Smashville stage, and is playing on Saturday @ 8:00pm, K.K. will not appear in the background but will be replaced by someone/something else."

Maybe a giant stereo, or a giant television, or something cute like a little AC dance party.

EDIT:
Red was just a name option that was given. There were four pre-entered names to choose from and the option to create your own name. The name "Red" was just the first one on the list of pre-entered.

Wait, are you saying you've never played a handheld Pokemon game before?

Who ever thinks were NOT getting an AC character better think again. It ain't gonna be Tom Nook, or any other popular AC character. Hell the Rossetti update proved that. Were getting the AC character you play as.

Is this issue new? I can only make out so much, but it LOOKS like it's real to me, I do know that it does have to do with Animal Crossing Wii.

Hey look everyone!

Different screenshots on the Japanese site! Not like there's anything super interesting going on, though...

Instead of Mario and Yoshi they have Wario and DK...
Oh, and Tom Nook is in the background, only this time he's in a suit and tie as opposed to the apron he was in when Smashville was revealed.

EDIT:
I noticed that Wario likes to use that foot of his. He's got it extended in nearly every screenshot. It's probably going to be a really good move. nAir, anyone?

Having an Animal Crossing main character would be so not cool. The characters look so dumb and how lame would it be using them, seriously. I will be p'd if one is a main. The assist trophy makes sense though. The game may be good but making a main character is just not likely. GO SABRES
