An Idea About Character Selection

I just had a great idea about character selection, and I don't think it would be too much trouble for the developers to do this.

I thought that since a lot of the enemies in the Subspace Emissary have a moveset, it shouldn't be completely impossible for such a massive team to assign those to buttons and turn them into characters. Anyway, here's my idea: a rotating character selection screen.

For instance, in Melee, you could tilt the screen with the C-Stick. This idea uses that as a base. When you press a direction on whatever you have taunts set to, the character selection screen could rotate and there could be 2 screens. One for heroes, and one for villians. I'm aware that some bosses are too massive to be playable, but that wouldn't be a problem. They could just scale them down a bit and make them a little weaker. Even if subspace enemies couldn't be playable, it would still work good with normal enemies, like Bowser, Mewtwo, etc as long as sakurai addsw more villians.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, mods.

(By the way, please don't flame.)

That will only happen if there is a lot of characters and since Brawl will probably have 35-45 characters, it won't happen.

I think its too complicated, especially for Smash. People were first drawn into Smash because of how easy it was to pick up, and a lot of newbies are going to be pushed away when they see a selection screen like that.

It would be hard to implement it into a VS. Player match. My friends already get annoyed when I change the rules or enter names... and it would turn the selection screen into chaos.

I actually like the idea, but it would be SO hard to make it run smoothly... and also, I don't think it would be possible with the ratio of good to evil characters in the game.

Is there an Action Replay or similar device for Wii? Because people played as Sandbag and Master Hand in Melee with that...

This is a very dumb idea. Imagine 4 players around the same screen.
Now one wants to pick someone on the "Villain's" screen. Say, Ganondorf for example.
SCREEN SHIFT! 3 players are left thinking ****, I wanna choose.

Imagine the co-ordination? One person NEEDS to use the other screen, but the C stick
screen rotate was annoying ENOUGH. Now we can completely remove the character screen?
Don't see it happening.

Come on, don't be so harsh on him. God.

Anyhow, the vilain and heroes seems awesome.
I have read on the Big Primid trophy that they
have attacks and rolling. So I guess making a move
set for them would be adding a little too much.

Although I'm all for adding Subspace ennemies
as random box pop ups. Like redeads, goomba's
and octorocs in melee (And the others).

Yeah, but any updates to the Wii make it unusable, and Brawl will most likely update the Wii before you can play, just like other Wii games, making it impossible to use an AR on Brawl.

Um, you just think about who you want to choose while others are choosing and ask if you can change screens. Besides, a lot of people choose a character then start changing their minds, so they could make sure they want to use some character and won't take forever choosing while everyone gets mad waiting.

Nnnnnaah, sorry Ouendanation, it just wouldn't make sense. In a game where you and four eager friends are ready to jump in and beat the snot out of eachother, it'd be pretty cumbersome for everyone to have to switch back and forth to choose characters.

Basically, the interface should be simple and static. You shouldn't feel like you're battling eachother before you even start the game.

This is very rude and shoudl be considered spam just as any other regular spam...If you ahve nothing to add, don't post..Thanks

Anywho I agree that is would make selecting characters diffictult with friends
so if you don't think its a good idea it is spam?

i also think its dumb.

It's not spam necessarily, (even though it doesn't add to the conversation) but it's unnecessary roughness...fifteen yard penalty, first down!

Anyway, it's a nice idea, but I don't think we have enough villains to even it up. Even if we do implement SSE characters, most people would probably pick the main characters anyway. If you had a choice between Sonic and a Primid, who would you choose?

Let's assume 2 screens.
44/2 = 22
22 per screen.
Melee's screen: 26.

Take out the edge squares in top two rows, you have 22 characters on the Melee screen.
If Brawl has 44 characters, it could be necessary, even.
We also have to take into account the size of icons. 44 on one screen would be impossible for many smaller television sets - thus, they may not be able to be crammed onto a single screen.

However, I really don't know whether Brawl will have so many characters.

I can't imagine Brawl having so many characters that a rotating select screen would be necessary. I think they could comfortably fit maybe 50 characters in one screen if the rest of the GUI were shrunk a bit. It'll be a little cramped but it's better than having to search around for your character.

Quoted for truth. I forgot to mention that I didn't like the idea in my last post :p
