Going to show the alternate costumes that are so far shown in this game. Here is a link to all the alternate costumes of the characters from the demo version.
https://www.ssbwiki.com/Alternate_costume_(SSBU)
The characters in that link: :ultbayonetta::ultbowser::ultcloud::ultcorrin::ultdk::ultfox::ultganondorf::ulticeclimbers::ultike::ultinkling::ultkirby::ultlink::ultlittlemac::ultmario::ultmarth::ultmegaman::ultmewtwo::ultness::ultpacman::ultpikachu::ultsheik::ultpit::ultpokemontrainer::ultridley::ultryu::ultsamus::ultsnake::ultsonic::ultvillager::ultzelda:

Now I am going to collect info of each alternate costume of the other characters in this thread. Click each photo to see a bigger version of it.

Last Updated: 9/21/18

:ultbowserjr:

The Koopalings reprise their roles as his alt costumes.
:ultfalcon:

His red alternate costume returns. It has an interesting change, it now reads "Hell Hawk" in the back of this outfit instead of "Blood Hawk" like in previous games. The idea of including this name was originally planned in Melee, but later replaced with "Blood Falcon".
Also, this is the second instance of mild language in the Smash Bros series, after Rodin's trophy description in SSB4.
:ultchrom:

This is his red and blue costumes (notice the blue shoulderpad on the right photo). The red costume might may represent the red color of enemy units , or alternatively could reference specific characters from Fire Emblem Awakening, such as Miriel, Cherche, or Walhart. Mirage Chrom also had a red and black color scheme when promoted to Conqueror in Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE.
:ultdaisy:

She a white costume similar to Peach's (not the one shown in this photo, but the pure white one).
:ultdarkpit:

Dark Pit's white costume has been slightly altered. His tunic is now slightly more grey.
:ultdarksamus:

Dark Samus has a purple costume, which gives her armor a purple tint, alongside giving it pink lights.
:ultdiddy:

Diddy's blue and brown costumes return.
:ultdoc:
No alts revealed yet.
:ultduckhunt:

The costumes based upon (from left to right) the Dalmatian, Beagle, and Border Collie, returns to Duck Hunt.
:ultfalco:

Falco retains his light blue (seventh) costume from SSB4. He now has a brand new red costume, resembling his appearance from Star Fox Assault. This new red costume is most likely replacing his sixth costume from SSB4.
:ultgreninja:
Just going to mention that :ultgreninja: does infact have both of his purple alts already confirmed to be returning, which were showcased at :ultgreninja: part of the “Everyone is here!” Trailer - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EXnbMp1yr1k&t=143s

Actually, he was infact the first character to have some of their alt-colours shown to the public (don’t recall seeing any other characters alt-colours revealed before his).
Those two costumes are unchanged from SSB4.
:ultisabelle:

She already has three costumes revealed. The red costume is a variation of her Winter Outfit, and it also references her twin brother Digby. Her yellow costume is her winter outfit itself. The pink costume is a variation on the default summer outfit, and it also references her casual outfit in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.
:ultjigglypuff:
No alts revealed yet.
:ultkingdedede:
No alts revealed yet.
:ultkrool:

He has a purple costume and a blue costume. The purple one resembles the color of the Klump enemy from Donkey Kong Country, while the blue one resembling one of his alternate costumes from DK: King of Swing.
:ultlucario:

Lucario's purple costume (aka the Tsu- colors) returns.
:ultlucas:

Lucas' grey costume returns.
:ultlucina:

Lucina's black costume returns.
:ultluigi:

Luigi's Waluigi costume returns with a minor change: the L in his cap is now colored green instead of purple.
:ultmetaknight:

Meta Knight's pink costume that references Galacta Knight returns with some notable changes: the mask now resembles Galacta Knight's mask, and the Galaxia is now colored pink to reference Galacta Knight's signature pink spear.
:ultgnw:

These four alts return to Mr. Game & Watch, although the color scheme now makes them resemble on how they appeared in Brawl.
:ultolimar:

Alph is reprising his role as some of Olimar's alternate costumes. His red and green costumes are returning as well.
:ultpalutena:

Her cyan costume returns.
:ultpeach:

Her white costume, fire flower costume, and yellow-black costume all return to Peach.
:ultpichu:
No alts revealed yet.
:ultrichter:

This is his red costume, which resembles Christopher Belmont in Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth.
:ultrob:

His Famicon colors return, as it is his second alt costume in international release and his default costume in the Japanese version of the game, similar to SSB4.

His pink costume returns, alongside receiving a new blue costume.
:ultrobin:

Female Robin returns as some of Robin's alternate costumes.

Female Robin's pink costume returns. Male Robin's green costume returns with a minor adjustment: he now has light brunette hair instead of green hair. This change better matches the map sprite for the first tactician avatar character in the Fire Emblem series, Mark from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade.
:ultrosalina:

Her white and red costume returns.
:ultroy:

His gold costume returns.
:ultshulk:

Swimming suit Shulk returns.
:ultsimon:

He has a blue costume, which is based upon his appearance from Super Castlevania 4.
:ulttoonlink:

His red, blue, and purple costumes are returning. Four Swords unite!
:ultwario:

Classic Wario returns as some of Wario's alternate costumes. His blue biker outfit (aka the Glutonny colors) is also returning, although it seems like the jacket has a more green shade this time around.
:ultwiifittrainer:

Male Wii Fit Trainer returns as some of Wii Fit Trainer's alternate costumes. Her green outfit is also returning.
:ultwolf:

Wolf has a new pink costume.
:ultyoshi:

Yoshi's red, blue, and yellow costumes return to him. Yoshi has a new alt based on his appearance on the upcoming Yoshi's Crafted World.
:ultyounglink:

Young Link's blue costume returns, with it's color scheme untouched from Melee, appearing more indigo colored in Ultimate as a result. His black costume returns, but he now more closely resembles Dark Link, featuring red glossy eyes.
:ultzss:
No alts revealed yet.

No but seriously, those pictures don't even exceed 144p. This is a good idea but you should add larger screenshots.

I can't find any version of the screenshots without it being too big. If you have a source to versions of the screenshots that isn't too large, can you please link them to me? It would be much appreciated.

You can search "online image resizer" on Google and I'm sure you'll find a website that can reduce your images or you can do it yourself :
  1. Save the picture from the website or any other source you want
  2. Open Paint and open the file.
  3. Click on resize and then select something like 50% for the percentages so it reduce the size by half.
  4. Save it and then post the files here.

This is comparing the alt costumes of the characters of the e3 demo with their previous appearances. Whatever links I put there is on purpose.

Last Updated: 9/21/18

:ultbayonetta:

The order of Bayonetta's costumes have changed to reflect Cloud's, Wii Fit Trainer's, Villager's, and Corrin's alternate costumes: it now alternates between the Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 1 designs instead of displaying 4 of them in a row.

Her pink alternate costume (7th costume in SSB4) has changed to be more red.
:ultbowser:

No significant costume changes, other than the skin in the second alternate costume being more red colored overall.
:ultcloud:

His seventh costume (the fourth FF7 costume) has been replaced altogether, making it reference his appearance in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Zack Fair's 1st-Class SOLDIER uniform in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
:ultcorrin:

No significant costume changes.
:ultdk:

No significant costume changes.
:ultfox:

Since Fox now references his appearance in Star Fox Zero, each of his costumes has a slightly different jacket design with slightly different color schemes, with his sixth costume showing the most change from this.

Since Wolf is now in the game, his fur in the eighth alternate costume (that references Wolf) has been made purple.
:ultganondorf:

Ganondorf has been revamped to his Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time design, thus his alternate costumes have changed entirely.
  • He now has a standard red, green, and purple costumes (which is his second, fourth, and fifth costumes, respectively) that show more color.
  • His third and eighth costumes have been combined together to make his new third costume that further references Beast Ganon.
  • His second and eighth costume has been combined to make his new unique seventh costume.
  • His new sixth and eighth costumes references his Wind Waker and Twilight Princess designs, respectively.
:ulticeclimbers:

Each of their previous costumes come back, but the order is different.
  • The second costume is now the fifth costume.
  • The third costume is now the second costume.
  • The fourth costume is now the sixth costume. Nana's parlor has been changed to be brown.
  • The fifth costume is now the third costume.
  • The sixth costume is now the seventh costume, although it has been made slightly more blue.
Since the four costumes at the end have Nana as the lead climber, the three costumes in Brawl that had Nana as the front climber has reprised their roles.

Since Brawl has a maximum of six costumes (except for Wario), two new costumes are added. Their new fourth costume is identical to their second costume, although Popo's parlor has been made in a darker blue, and their gloves are now blue instead of green. Their new eighth costume gives Nana an orange parlor and gives Popo a purple-ish blue parlor, and it also puts the lead climber to Nana.
:ultike:

Ike now alternates between his Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Brawl) appearance and his Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (SSB4) appearance. He now uses four of the costumes from Brawl, and four from SSB4 to reflect this.
  • The first two costume slots is the default appearance of PoR Ike and RD Ike.
  • Brawl Ike's second costume is retained, and is now his fifth costume.
  • Brawl Ike's third costume is retained, and is also his third costume in Ultimate.
  • Brawl Ike's fourth costume is retained, and is now his seventh costume.
  • SSB4 Ike's third costume is retained, and is now his fourth costume.
  • SSB4 Ike's fifth costume is retained, and is now his sixth costume.
  • SSB4 Ike's seventh costume is retained, and is now his eighth costume.
It should be noted that the exclusion of SSB4 Ike's eighth costume has probably hinted the inclusion of Chrom, the character the costume is referencing to.
:ultinkling:
One of the newcomers, so no alt costumes to compare.
:ultkirby:

No significant costume changes.
:ultlink:

Link is now based on his appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Link's clothing design is based on his Champion's Tunic for half of his costumes, and based on the Hero of the Wild Set for the other half. Despite this, he does retain some of his costumes.
  • The second costume is now his third costume (CT Link). He has no cap, due to it being BotW Link with the Champoin's Tunic, and it is changed to be based upon the Hylian Tunic from that game.
  • The third costume is now his fifth costume (CT Link). He has no cap, due to it being BotW Link with the Champoin's Tunic, and it is changed to be based upon the Royal Guard Uniform from that game. The Hylian Shield now resembles the Royal Guard's Shield as well.
  • The fourth and fifth costumes are removed entirely.
  • The sixth costume is now his eighth costume (HotW Link).
  • The seventh costume remains at the seventh slot (CT Link). He has no cap, due to it being BotW Link with the Champoin's Tunic, which further resemble his appearance as a resident of Skyloft from the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. This is the only costume that doesn’t resemble an outfit Link can obtain in Breath of the Wild.
  • The eighth costume is now his fourth costume (HotW Link), although it has been modified to reflect the Fierce Deity set from Breath of the WIld.
A new costume is added for the sixth slot, which is based upon Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
:ultlittlemac:

Due to all costumes in Smash Ultimate being standardized to eight costumes for all characters, costumes from Little Mac has to be removed, with only two Wireframe Costumes being retained.

The costumes being cut are: his fifth and sixth standard costumes, and the second through seventh Wireframe costumes. Fortunately, we still have a solid costume lineup, additionally with it now being simplified.
:ultmario:

Noticible changes occurred, including the order of costumes for Mario.
  • The second costume has been replaced with the Wedding Outfit from Super Mario Odyssey. It is also now the eighth costume.
  • The fourth costume has been replaced with the Builder Outfit from Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Odyssey. It is also now the seventh costume.
  • The fifth costume is now his fourth costume.
  • The sixth costume is now his fifth costume.
  • The seventh costume is now his second costume.
  • The eighth costume is now his sixth costume.
:ultmarth:

His eighth costume has been made more light blue, which now references Marth's appearance in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, his debut appearance. This makes sense, since Roy is now a playable fighter from the get-go and not DLC.
:ultmegaman:

No significant costume changes.
:ultmewtwo:

No significant costume changes.
:ultness:

No significant costume changes.
:ultpacman:

No significant costume changes.
:ultpikachu:

Pikachu's fourth and seventh costumes are replaced with two new ones that will take the seventh and eighth costume slots. Both costumes changes his gender to female. One of them gives her Moon's Casual Cap from Pokemon Sun and Moon, while the other one will dress her up to be Pikachu Libre from Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

His fifth, sixth, and eighth costumes has are now his fourth, fifth, and sixth costumes, respectively.
:ultpit:

Pit's fourth costume now gives him red wings instead of white. His sixth costume now gives him his normal brown hair, but he now has a black scarf, black wings, and a purple laurel wreath.

His seventh and eighth costumes have combined together to make a new eighth costume. This gives room for another new costume, which will be his seventh costume, in which it references a cherub.
:ultpokemontrainer:
This part focuses on the Trainer himself/herself and Squirtle.

Half of Pokemon Trainer's costumes now have Leaf, the female protagonist of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. The only costume retained from the trainer himself is his third costume, which is now his fourth costume and is now owned by Leaf. Each of Squirtle's costumes from Brawl is retained here, but it also has three new ones due to having a maximum of 5 costumes in Brawl.
  • The second alternate costume is now the default costume for Leaf.
  • His third costume now references Ethan, the male protagonist on how he appears in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.
  • In Pokemon Trainer's fourth costume slot, Squirtle has a new costume that gives it a pink shell.
  • His fifth costume now references Lucas, the male protagonist on how he appears in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Squirtle has a new costume that gives it a yellow shell.
  • Her sixth costume now references Hilda, the female protagonist of Pokemon Black and White. Squirtle's fifth costume from Brawl is retained here.
  • His seventh costume references Calem, the male protagonist of Pokemon X and Y. Squirtle's fourth costume from Brawl is retained here.
  • Her eighth costume references Moon, the female protagonist on how she appears in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. This also gives her tanned skin. Squirtle has a new costume that gives it purple skin.

Until Ivysaur's and Charizard's costumes are revealed in a fashion like above, this slide will be updated. All I know right now is that Charizard's second, sixth, and eighth costumes from SSB4 is retained in Pokemon Trainer's second, sixth, and eighth slots, respectively.
:ultridley:
One of the newcomers, so no alt costumes to compare.
:ultryu:

Ryu's eighth costume has been replaced with a new purple costume, which references his tenth costume in Street Fighter V. This change is most likely due to the eighth costume from SSB4 appearing too similar to his fifth costume.
:ultsamus:

Her eighth costume has been replaced with a new one that gives her pitch black armor and yellow lights. This change is mainly due to the inclusion of Dark Samus as a playable fighter. This change has hinted Dark Samus' inclusion as a fighter.
:ultsheik:

Despite Sheik now wearing the Sheikah Set from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, her costumes remain similar to that of her previous incarnation in the series. It should be noted that each of her costumes (excluding her third and eighth costume) now also references a specific color dye of the Sheikah Set, also from Breath of the Wild.
:ultsnake:

His costumes has also shifted around in position.
  • The second costume is now his third costume.
  • The third costume is now his sixth costume.
  • The fourth costume is removed entirely.
  • The fifth costume is still his fifth costume.
  • The sixth costume is now his eighth costume.
Due to the loss of one of his costumes, and him now having Ultimate's standard of 8 costumes as opposed to Brawl's 6 costumes, he has 3 new costumes. One of the them resembles the Metal camouflage from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (which is his second costume); the second one resembles the Water camouflage from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (which is his fourth costume); and the third one resembles the Leaf camouflage from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (which is his seventh costume).
:ultsonic:

The seventh and eighth costumes have been swapped. The fur in his second, fourth, and (now) seventh costumes are now more blue.
:ultvillager:

No significant costume changes.
:ultzelda:

Zelda's design is now revamped to that of her appearances at The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds. Despite this, her costumes remain somewhat similar to her previous appearance in terms of color scheme.

The main changes would be:
  • Each of her costumes now give her blonde hair, with the exception being her second (to a lesser extent), sixth, and seventh costumes.
  • The sleeves in her second and third costumes are now white.
  • The sleeves in her fourth and fifth costume is now a light shade of purple and green, respectively.
  • The sixth costume has more shades of purple overall, with her hair having a slight shade of purple as well.
  • The seventh costume has been replaced with one that references her appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Isn't all this information already on the wiki? You know, besides characters like Greninja where only a few have been seen?

Not the characters that isn't in the e3 demo. The link to the character's alternate costumes that is in the e3 demo is at the top of this thread.

So no more Fire Mario? That's kind of disappointing. I always loved that color.

I really surprised by the Yoshi Crafted World alt. I really want to see it next to Yoshi, to see how different it is.

I'm hoping that more characters get more alternate costumes. 8 should be the bare minimum for obvious 8-player Smash reasons, but characters shouldn't be limited to only 8 if there's much more they could work with. Then again, Little Mac's got reduced to 8 in this installment, so maybe not. Oh well. There are still a good amount of palette swaps to choose from.

Speaking of Little Mac, that image on the SmashWiki of him intrigues me. Are there going to be different character stock icon palettes that correspond to the player's choice of alt costume? The text portion on Ice Climbers seems to support this idea, unless I'm mistaken.

Yep, every character has different icons for different costumes, it's obvious with Bayonetta and Corrin, fe.

I think they might give some characters more but after the backslash Little Mac got last time, probably every character will have the same amount. Which may be more than 8, we'll see.

Shiny Mewtwo was in Melee, Sm4sh, and in Ultimate. It's that ugly green yellow color.

While Mewtwo's color in SSB4 is a yellow shade (#d5c800; RGB: 213, 200, 0), it's supposed to be shiny Mewtwo. I'm not sure if the developers aimed to make all shiny Pokémon the complementary color of their original colors, but in the case of those like Mewtwo, that's what can be seen. The complementary color of purple isn't green, but yellow. In the same way with Charizard, whose original shiny color was purple, an original art actually portrayed it as a desaturated blue (#555a84; RGB: 85, 90, 132). And that makes sense, since the opposite of orange is blue on the color wheel.
