A long time ago, there were many road rallies held in North America with all the drivers hoping to win the title of “World’s Wackiest Racer”. As beknowst to the racers, there was only a sole female challenger willing to prove herself in the Wacky Races. While attractive and beautiful, she does not want to hold her own in just racing and perils. She also wants to hold herself in the toughest fights against from across the multiverse. This challenger is none other than… Penelope Pitstop.
Who is Penelope Pitstop and what is Wacky Races?
Penelope Pitstop is the only female racer in the “Wacky Races” competition as well as an attractive Southern Belle. She drives a feminine pink car by the name of the Compact Pussycat which allows Penny to maintain her beauty during the race. However, her car can backfire and shoot shampoo at the other racers’ faces.
She is not shown as a harmful racer and is rarely targeted by the other racers as such besides **** Dastardly targeting her. She’s very peaceful and therefore is thankful when the other racers help her.
For those not aware, Wacky Races is one of the many cartoons Hanna-Barbera produced. The show is about 11 different cars racing at road rallies around North America hoping to earn the title of “World’s Wackiest Racer”. The show was actually inspired by the classic movie from 1965, The Great Race. This show even spawned numerous mostly starring **** Dastardly. However, Pitstop has proven to be popular and was created as an afterthought as it was suggested that a woman should be a part of the Wacky Races cast.
Speaking of spinoffs, Penelope even received her own spinoff called The Perils of Penelope Pitstop. In this spinoff, Penelope usually gets into a peril from her guardian Sylvester Sneekly who disguises himself as “The Hooded Claw”. Alas, the Anthill Mob come to her aid. In this series, Penny is given a bit more of a personality as she is shown to be a clever woman when in danger or trouble. She’s also a bit of a daredevil as well which gives her a bit of the strong female character persona here despite being a girly girl. She even made an appearance in Yogi's Treasure Hunt as well.
Move forward about four decades later, a short TV movie pilot by the name of Wacky Races Forever comes out. We find out that Penelope Pitstop is married to Peter Perfect as has two children.
She also appears in the 2017 reboot of Wacky Races where we learn she has a sister named Pandora. Yes…the reboot saw her pitted in a rap battle against **** Dastardly putting him in his place. And, we saw her fight against some penguin as well.
Originally, she was supposed to appear in Scoob! but was cut from the movie. Funny enough, she was going to be the crush of Shaggy.
Furthermore, she has appeared in a Scooby-Doo comic, cameo’d in Space Jam: A New Legacy, cameod’ in an episode of the Animaniacs reboot, cameo’d in the Metlife 2012 commercial alongside other Hanna-Barbera icons and the cast of the Peanuts franchise and will be appearing in Jellystone (if the show does not get canned). Hopefully, with these future appearances, Pitstop can be more well-known for the modern-day audience.
The Competition for a slot in MultiVersus for Pitstop
Penelope may be very-well known but Hanna-Barbera still has other characters that take priority to join MultiVersus first. There’s Scooby-Doo (who is supposedly leaked), Fred Flintstone (the leak he is in is probably fake), George Jetson, Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo, etc. Her biggest competition is the duo of **** Dastardly and Muttley who have appeared more across Warner’s media and play a greater part in the Hanna-Barbera universe.
However, if demand is there and MultiVersus continues to add more WB icons, Pitstop can have a shot.
Why should Penelope Pitstop join MultiVersus?
Given the fact that Hanna-Barbera’s properties are making a resurgence at the moment with the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe starting with Scoob!, Pitstop definitely feels like she should be there to introduce players to her. Hanna-Barbera currently only has 3 fighters on the roster being Shaggy, Velma and Tom and Jerry; 4 when Scooby-Doo joins based on the leak (5 potentially if Fred Flintstone joins but the leak he’s in might be fake). Thus, Hanna-Barbera is in need of more fighters on the MultiVersus roster.
There are plans for a Wacky Races movie as well as a stop-motion Wacky Races series coming out soon so now would be a great time to add in some fighters/content from the show. However, with the time of this being written, Warner Bros merging with Discovery may worsen the chances of the Wacky Races reboot and the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe forming due to the fact that budget cuts may come into action and projects may be canned. Regardless of this, we do not have a lot of females on the roster currently so Penny would up the number of female fighters.
How would she fight?
I envision Pitstop as a support class fighter who has moves involving racing, beauty and of course, her escaping a peril. She does not hurt anyone but she will “hurt” the opponent and help out her teammate by rescuing them from a peril she has encountered.
Also, one move can involve her engine backfiring with the beauty supplies in her car. Alongside this, she can rescue her teammate in a car. A very pacifist fighter for sure.
What content would she bring?
Penelope has her multiple outfits she has worn across the cartoons she has appeared in. Therefore, she has a lot of costume potential. Alongside this, she can come with a stage based off of Wacky Races or her own spinoff which has multiple perils as hazards.

With the lack of Hanna-Barbera reps, female fighters currently and Wacky Races being a classic cartoon, Penelope Pitstop is a very good contender. She is so overlooked when talking about new fighters for MultiVersus that she has great moveset potential. Overall, a solid pick for the great battle of MultiVersus!
