Ok, so this guy over on GameFAQs (the lowest circle of hell, i know) posted a bunch of information, claiming to be a tester. He made some pretty outlandish claims, and is very likely full of crap, but he's keeping up the act and hasn't said anything flat-out impossible. I'm at least giving him an ear.

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=928518&topic=40545546

Please discuss what you think of this.

Lots of people on GameFAQs are swallowing this hook, line, and sinker, though, so feel free to vent your hatred against that cesspool of a gaming site as well -_-

It's probably crap, but if we get a "Top Brawler" update, I'm crying over what could've been. (Megaman, Ridley)

wow... this guy is pretty crazy... he's "informed" us of Jajamaru, Sylux, and KNUCKLES being playable...

I'm kinda psyched for playable Knuckles, if this really is true. I'd even forgive Mewtwo being gone.

I want to believe him... really I do. But I dunno.

I don't believe him.

So far he's said:

-Jajamaru is in Brawl (he's a very old NES char, I don't feel like doing the research for you--just know that his game was recently released for the Virtual Console)

-There is a ranking system--it has to do with that "submit your info" option Sakurai wrote about. You can get a permanent trophy if you're #1.

-He says Ridley isn't in Brawl. At all. "The Metroid series only has two playable characters, Sylux and Samus, and Sylux is very similar to Samus." Sylux is from Metroid Prime: Hunters.

-Takamaru the samurai is an assist trophy.

-Captain Falcon is in Brawl. He goes on to say: "Captain Falcon is nearly the same as he was in Super Smash Brother's Melee, but is a bit slower. His Final Smash is "Final Stretch", a random fighter get's "Rival" over their head, and Captain Falcon's ship Blue Falcon, slams toward them (Usually KO'ing, and when it does KO, Captain Falcon crosses his arms and poses with cool fire around him).
"

-He confirms Lucario and says this: "Well, for those wondering about Lucario,

Lucario requires one to collect 100 trophies to unlock, to me one of the hardest characters to unlock.

His A moves are actually punch combos, every single one of them!

This might seem stale but his B moves make it work very nicely. His standard B move is a blue version of Mewtwo's dark ball, I think it is called Aura Blast or something. Smash+B is Vacuum Punch, which pulls the foe to Lucario. Up B, is Extremespeed, which is like Mewtwo's Teleport, but it is directional like Zelda's, and it causes damage. Down B is Counter, (Think Marth).

His Final Smash is 'Close Combat', he dashes at the opponent (Like Link's Final Smash), and than unleashes a blinding fury of punches, easily KO'ing the foe at 40%+. "

-Says this about Wolf, Ness and Knuckles: "Ness and Wolf are both in Brawl, to get them you must beat Classic with Lucas and Fox respectively.

Wolf O'Donnell is an interesting character actually, because he plays much differently from Fox (Unlike Falco in Super Smash Brothers: Melee) He has no Blaster, instead he uses a Rocket Launcher similar to Snake's, and his UP+B is a Jet Pack. If anything he plays like Snake!

Sonic pairs with Pit/ Mario/ Kirby depending on the choices you make in the Subspace Emissary. You unlock Knuckles actually, by beating c-lassic Mode with him on Hard.

Knuckles is one the better characters to be honest. He is basically overpowered. He is a very heavy character, yet he is also fast on his feet... and he has tons of strong punches. He can actually climb ledges, when you use his UP B, which is Echindna Glide, and can burrow underground with his DOWN B. His Final Smash is a powerful punch to the ground that literally KO's anyone it hits, damaging anyone one the ground with shockwaves. "

-"Capcom has no part of this game, so those asking for Pheonix Wright and Megaman are out of luck."

-"You can expect however, to see two of Square's characters, Cecil and Geno. If you need more detail, Cecil is a faster version of Ike, with a different Final Smash, and Geno is a blue Scarecrow from some obscure Mario game that attacks using stars and lazers."

I'm not going to believe him because I really don't want to give myself any false hope. Still, he says Wolf and Lucario are playable characters, so I hope he's right.

BSNOOB said:
Hello, I am an anonymous source who has recently finished testing the upcoming Wii title Super Smash Brothers: Brawl. Refer to me as 'Jake' if you have a query on any of the information in this post. I shall not be using my real name for obvious reasons.

As you may know, the NSTC Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, is scheduled for launch on the 10th of February this quarter. Super Smash Brothers: Brawl Dojo! has been faithfully updating fans on a semi-weekly basis, until now. I plan to use this gap as a chance to release some information of my own.

Now what you would like to hear!

1P MODE:

The Subspace Emissary:
Subspace Emissary is compariable to a choose your own path adventure game. The success and choices you make in your missions effect the outcome of the story. There are several different endings that rely on this factor. The better one preforms, the better the outcome will be (and the final coin reward).

The Subspace Emissary should be the first thing you play, as it unlocks various modes, characters, collectibles, CD's, and stages.

Upon beating Subspace Emissary with a good ending one unlocks:
X2 Sticker Packs
X5 Random Trophies
The Battleship Halberd Trophy
??? amount of coins (Usually a huge amount)
Stage: Subspace Palace
Game Mode: Subspace Survival
Game Mode: Boss Showdown! (only the 1P version)
Challenger: JaJaMaru (1st play through)
Subspace Emissary: Episode 2

Also, your Subspace Emissary accomplishments are displayed on the Wi-fi mode:' Top Brawler' profile. (Does not change your rank however).

If you have any questions feel free to ask. You may question my credibility, and I regret that I can do nothing to substantiate my claims due to the situation. You'll just have to use your judgement.

I will post more again soon.

"Jake"

He spelled perform wrong.
Typo destroys Jake's credibility.

Seems like Jake just wants attention and wants to mess with people. :(

seems fake to me too, possibly not but too many random characters. Sylux? No one wants him, hunters isn't very big, even in America, and Ridley has been very popular since the day smash was announced

Also, I did a google search of his name and found this: http://www.gaiaonline.com/profiles/?u=8015494

A little kid, quite possible, yes?

Well, it could be a coincidence--just wanted to put it out there.

He suggested that, if it's the same guy, maybe he loves smash enough to become a SSBB tester. I find it VERY hard to believe that Sylux, Knuckles, Cecil, Geno, AND Jajamaru would all be in the game. Maybe 1 or 2 of those, but not all of them.

EDIT: Sorry, he just denied having ever seen that video.

He.. Actually sounds credible, he has a nice 'real' feeling to him. Rather than just telling the roster like a bunch of others, this one gives info on other things as well, things that only a tester could think of... I think it's fake, but he does a really good job. I'll keep my eye out for this one.

BLEEhEHEHEHhEHEHH......!>.......

hopefully only some of it is true cause the no-metroid-love is making me sick to my stomache!

The betas of Nintendo are closed. It's nearly impossible something leaks from the beta test.
(I think they take only people they can trust in)
=> Fake

No real proof, and some things sound unrealistic.
OK, they can be true. There will be sure many unpredictable characters (like PT). But still, sounds like a lier.

BTW it's a beta. So he can't say someone is, or someone won't be in the game. Because it's not the finished version and it hasn't all things included.
(I think I'm right informed)

Hate to sound like a blind Ridley fanboy, but after Ridley being mentioned TWICE on the Dojo (Music/Norfair updates) I find it unlikely that he isn't in Brawl in some form or fashion.

I call bull....untill one of his "updates" comes true.

Then I'll add his "nside" info to my Prophet Character topic.

A little hard to believe. Like I've said, if there are no pictures to back up as proof nobody's going to believe anybody. :(

Knuckles playable? SP would be happy. Geno using stars and lasers? Sounds about right. Wolf and Ness making the cut? Doesn't sound too farfetched. Cecil from FFIV? Any FF rep. would be nice...

The best rebuttal I've seen (on the thread itself) so far is:

"Sakurai said a crap load of characters would be unlocked in SE in the Basic Plat online update. Here you only have one. Failure." -Ray_MK_III

Amen.

I would be 100% hyped for Geno and Sylux, but really, Cecil and KNUCKLES? No way in hell.

Jajamaru?
>_<
BS.
I'm not even a Ridley supporter.. but I would get pissed off if Jajamaru was playable and not Ridley.

Ridley is believable. He might not be possible physics wise.

What isn't is the crap load of 3rd parties, and NO Megaman.

Jajamaru is even 3rd party.. and a very odd one.
I would expect Hudson's Bonk character before Jajamaru.

I agree. But he could have just meant that jajamaru is the award for your first good-ending SSE runthrough. Like X character is unlocked in stage 3, Y character is unlocked in stage 8, Z character is unlocked by a special condition in stage 5, Jiggly is unlocked from your first ending, period, and Jajamaru is your first good ending. Something like that.

They way he describes Lucario sound like he's trying to look believable. He knows the names of his moves, namely his final smash, and describes it as "Easily KO'ing foes at ~40%" That sounds like forum moveset speculation.

Plus no Ridley? A Character from FFIV, a game not on a nintendo console? Who the **** wants Sylux? And Sega gets two characters?

Fake

I don't believe him.
Me either. :ohwell:

-Jajamaru is in Brawl (If he is an AT, I can buy that, probability-wise.)

-There is a ranking system--it has to do with that "submit your info" option Sakurai wrote about. You can get a permanent trophy if you're #1. (believable, seeing as Sakurai has no problem with catering to casuals and the hardcore, as well as introducing significant gameplay dynamics, like the Coin Tosser, quite late.)

-He says Ridley isn't in Brawl. At all. "The Metroid series only has two playable characters, Sylux and Samus, and Sylux is very similar to Samus." (I can see a Samus clone, but I doubt Sakurai would take this option rather than introduce a series' villain as the second rep. Hunters is not the series' most famous and appreciated installment. Also, saying ridley isn't in AT ALL is silly considering he was in Melee in statue form AND he has been reputed as intended for the game but cut due to time constraints. This harms Jake's cred quite a lot.)

-Takamaru the samurai is an assist trophy. (ATs can be very obscure, and take little development time. Meh, these predictions are easy; just say "X from this really old Nintendo game is in".)

-Captain Falcon is in Brawl. "Captain Falcon is nearly the same as he was in Super Smash Brother's Melee, but is a bit slower. His Final Smash is "Final Stretch", a random fighter get's "Rival" over their head, and Captain Falcon's ship Blue Falcon, slams toward them (Usually KO'ing, and when it does KO, Captain Falcon crosses his arms and poses with cool fire around him). " (I can see this as well - Cpt. Falcon can't really be changed that much and making him slower could work as well. It will be interesting to see whether a future update (Cpt. Falcon will probably be a starter) will offer this FS and thus improve the credibility of the rest of the guy's statements.)

-He confirms Lucario and says this:
Lucario requires one to collect 100 trophies to unlock, to me one of the hardest characters to unlock. (OK, why not.)
His A moves are actually punch combos, every single one of them! (Not incredible)
Down B is Counter(Could happen. Could. But anyone can make detailed lies if one knows just a little about a character and the Smash Bros. games in general)

-Says this about Wolf, Ness and Knuckles: "Ness and Wolf are both in Brawl, to get them you must beat Classic with Lucas and Fox respectively. (Ok, sounds reasonable. Seems like these guys will be "Clones but not really" or something.)

(Credible, but I could make it up on my own.)

You unlock Knuckles actually, by beating c-lassic Mode with him on Hard. (A clone/another character from an already represented third-party series filling a third-party spot? Yeah. No.)

-"Capcom has no part of this game, so those asking for Pheonix Wright and Megaman are out of luck." (Probable, but easily fabricated.)

-"You can expect however, to see two of Square's characters, Cecil and Geno. If you need more detail, Cecil is a faster version of Ike, with a different Final Smash, and Geno is a blue Scarecrow from some obscure Mario game that attacks using stars and lazers." (Makes sense that there would be clones, but two third-party characters from the same company? Doubtful.)

All in all, I can't say anything swings for or against him much - a few of his statements not only fly in the face of my expectations and hopes ( No mention of Krystal? :( ) but also in the logic of creating a solid, famous and balanced roster. I am not getting my hopes up nor am I disappointed. I think it will be interesting to see whether Cpt. Falcon's is updated anytime soon, for comparison.

I'm afraid he WAS on Nintendo consoles, my friend. Two or three times infact (as remakes, of course).

Ridley > Sylux.

Hunters isn't very popular is it? Anyway, I doubt Sakurai would choose a one time character over a franchise villain.

I call fake on this.

2 requests:

Somebody put this info in the rumors thread.

Somebody keep track of this. If he's legit, he could spill more info. Some of us have lives outside of Smash and can't follow it all day...speaking of which, I need to get to work. :p
