A question about the subspace emmisary

Well this is kinda hard to explain so bare with me.

do he characters actualy know what is going on?

I mean look at peach/zelda/mario/kirby in the first part of the sse.mario and kirby are fighing in what looks like a tounement so they know that there are other nintendo characers out there.

but are they in the same planet? because if this is the case then
some one like dk for instance is just chillin in his jungle totaly oblivious to what is happening.he dosent know that every 2 hours some chap called link saves the world from this realy bad man and they are just on he other side of the planet living in hyrule.

so basicaly what i wana know is do characters know about other characters or not ?

if you dont get what i mean then i understand cuz i dont realy know how to explain.

If you're speaking technically, I think the entire smash universe is kind of like an alternate reality for all the nintendo characters because it appears they all dwell on the same planet. So I would assume that they are aware of eachothers' existences. Well, at least Mario, Kirby, Zelda, and Peach all seem to know each other.
