A Mario Kart World Direct Just Aired

MKW_Direct_1.jpg

Today, Nintendo just dropped a Direct focused on Mario Kart World. And as you’d expect, it had some new information in it. Here’s what the most notable stuff was:
  • We got footage of some new courses like Boo Cinema, Crown City, Mario Bros. Circuit, Salty Salty Speedway and Starview Peak.
  • The game features compatibility with a peripheral called the Joy-Con 2 Wheel.
  • A new movement option called Charge Jump was featured. It enables players to jump out of the way of obstacles, onto rails and even start riding directly along walls for a small period of time.
  • Time Trials return, alongside Ghosts.
  • The Direct teased that Rainbow Road or something reminiscent of it awaits players who've won every Grand Prix cup.
  • Both Balloon Battle and Coin Runners were confirmed to return.
  • There are new yellow and green teams for Versus Mode that didn’t exist before. Previous Mario Kart games only had 2 teams, now you can play with any number between 2 and 4.
  • An overview of some new and returning items, notably including Kamek.
  • There’s Dash Food players can get at Drive-Thrus across the world. These unlock new costumes based on whichever locale the Dash Food was obtained.
  • A new feature called Rewind, that lets players roll back their own actions. However, it doesn’t undo the actions other characters have taken, so it’s a bit of a risk to use.
  • There are P-Switches scattered across the map which activate special missions.
  • The world also features hidden panels as well as medallions that can be collected.

Author’s Note: Honestly, wouldn’t say we learned much from this Direct. Like, it wasn’t nothing but given it was fifteen minutes long I felt the presentation was a tad underwhelming. That said, the game itself is still fascinating! Anyway, what did you think? Please let us know in the comments below!

Sadly, most of the stuff that the Direct mentioned was already shown on the Nintendo Treehouse footage that aired after 4/2. And as an end result, a good amount of people are already looking at Mario Kart World as being a failed product, and not worth the $80 price tag.

It also doesn't help that one of the game's selling points, the Knockout Tour, does not give you the option to create your own custom rally.
