3DS Fest Tournament #1

DEADLINE TO REGISTER: Friday Oct 17 at 8:30am pacific time.

SHOW UP FOR CHECK IN FROM 5:30-6 pacific time on Friday or you will be dropped from the tournament
Bracket
http://challonge.com/3DSfest1

Chatroom for Communication
http://www.chatzy.com/57707336216349
This is a nice convenient chat room where you don't need to make a login. You just simply type a name in to be used and you're in the room. This is where you will check in and set up your matches with your opponents. It's a lot easier than the twitch chat to personal message one another.

Twitch Channel: twitch.tv/socandrewcer

Matches I play will be streamed. If I'm knocked out of the tournament (which will probably always happen) I will choose a match to put on live stream.

General rules:
  • 2 Stock
  • 5 minute timer
  • Items are set to "off" and "none"
  • Tournament style will be Swiss then Single Elimination bracket. Roughly the top half of contestants will move onto the single elimination bracket
  • All sets with the exception of semi finals and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 matches will be for semi finals and finals)
  • No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
  • Custom moves are allowed but not equipment.
  • If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.
  • If a game ends as a tie because a character does a suicide move, the player who initiated the suicide wins the game.
  • You are responsible for your 3DS
Stalling is banned.

Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable.

Set format (In Order of Procedure):
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
2. Stage Strike the 5 starter stages as follows: Player 1 strikes 1. Player 2 strikes 2. Player 1 strikes 1. Basically, 1-2-1.
3. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
4. The winning player may announce one stage to be banned for the set
5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List
6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match

During the tourney, if you are a no show for the first ten minutes, you lose the first game. If you don't show up for twenty minutes you lose the set. No show includes no joining or cooperating with an opponent.

Whenever you finish a set, PLEASE IMMEDIATELY report the results in a personal message to me in the chatroom. AT LEAST THE WINNER, because if no one reports the results, I will randomly select a winner. Please be honest because this is just a free for fun tournament.

Stage Lists

Starter
Battlefield
Tomodachi Life
Yoshi's Island
Arena Ferox
Final Destination (This includes all omega forms. You get to choose)

Counter

Resolving Ties: Any games ending in time running out should always be decided by stock, and then percents. If percents are the same or both players die simultaneously, there will be a 1 stock overttime. Bowser's suicide klaw is exempt from this rule.

FAQ

What's a swiss style tournament?
A point styled tourney where players can play multiple rounds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament

Can't I just say look under my profile pic for the 3DS code for registration?

No

What is Stage Striking?

Basically in round 1 of every match you strike. Let's say we're playing each other. We decide I will strike first. I don't feel like Yoshi's island is a great stage for my character so I strike that stage. Then, you decide to strike Final Destination and Arena Ferox. I then decide to strike Tomadachi Life. That leaves us with the level Battlefield. So we play our first game on that stage.

How about counterpicking?

For counterpicking, let's say you win the first game on Battlefield. You then get to ban a stage for the set. You decide to ban Arena Ferox. I decide to choose Final Destination as the next level to play on, then we choose characters.

Can I ask a question?

Yes

To strike a stage is to say "I don't wasn't too face my opponent on this stage" and removing it from the possible stages for that round. Players alternate doing this until all stages are eliminated and only one is left. Them you must play on that stage.

I have one question, will Smashboards ranking points be given to the top cut?

Excellent question. @ Batousai Batousai got the jist of it. Hope this makes sense.

@ Batousai Batousai I don't think online tourney's can work for smash boards ranking but I can ask/try when the tournament is over.

Updated some stuff

@ M MetsWONin86 You get better by competitively playing. I remember my first few tourney's I got dead last haha. Thanks for giving it a shot.

@ Illuvial Illuvial Bummer man. The tourney's might not be on Friday every week. I'm trying to keep them consistent, but I won't be able to promise that until January when I plan on making this a super legit weekly every week and consistent.

I might sign up. I'll have to see how much college homework I'll have this weekend.

I think I've seen people claiming points from online tourneys, but I think the organizer has to make it happen. I'm not too sure how the ranking system works on here. I'd like to know too, because I'm going to shoot for the top in Sm4sh.

I'm not sure, what SWF means... but I'd love to play if there's still space.

Thanks for all of the sign ups! :)

I don't know why SWR is there. I copied a lot of this from my past tourney's so I'll just delete it

Hey guys, I am really sorry but I actually will not be able to make it to this tournament. It turns out I have plans during that time frame. I will try to make it to one soon though!

Thanks for letting me know and that's totally fine. When people don't show up for check in they get penalized so you're fine
