The time is upon us! Players from all over the US and Japan are gathering at the Esports Arena in Santa Ana, CA this Saturday, September 24th. Their purpose: to emerge victorious at one of the most challenging 2GGaming tournaments to date. 2GGT: Abadango Saga sits at 563 registered entrants, a higher count than any previous installment, as well as the highest of any previous one-day Smash tournament. Players
As its name implies, 2GGT: Abadango Saga features special guest Yuto "Abadango" Kawamura. Abadango is known for his unconventional character choices, especially for his flashy and oppressive Mewtwo play. He's managed to finish top 8 at every major US tournament he's attended, and even became the first international player to win one at Pound 2016. He'll be flying in along with fellow countryman komorikiri, the dual Sonic/Cloud main who dominates West Japan. The two of them face a challenging gauntlet of SoCal natives, including Larry "eLevate FAD | Larry Lurr" Holland, James "CLG | VoiD" Makekau-Tyson, Eric "NME | Tyrant" Legesse and Shawn "Infamous | K9sbruce" Bruce. These foes and more prove challenging even to those formed by Japan's highly competitive tournament series.However, that's not the only challenge our foreign guests face. NorCal is also showing up in force, with Thomas "Ito" Gonda, Anthony "NME | Zex" West and Erick "WtF | Trevonte" Green vying for the crown. Though SoCal is considered by most to be a stronger region, NorCal is very capable of holding their own. Beyond that, Tristate will also make an appearance thanks to 2GGT: Fow Saga champion Nairoby "NRG | Nairo" Quezada. Accompanying him is CEO 2016 champion Jason "IMT | ANTi" Bates, who will be looking to make his new sponsor proud. Finally, recently-relocated Gonzalo "TSM | Zero" Barrios returns to his old kingdom in the hope of reclaiming the throne.
There are also a few wildcards. One can't forget that EVO 2016 champion Elliot "C9 | Ally" Carroza-Oyarce is looking to carry the momentum from his strong summer showings through this fall. Jamaal "Samsora" Morris Jr. is coming all the way from Louisiana, where he is currently ranked #1 on his local power rankings. Though not as well-known as other top players, he did manage to double-eliminate Ally at Clutch City Clash. There's also Anthony "PWRUP | Vash" Martinez, a fearsome Little Mac from Vegas, who's fought close sets with top players and is now looking for his breakout performance. Finally, Shane "PG | SS" Bruce and his fearsome child duo of Ness/Villager will likely make an impact as well. Mewtwo Round Robin
In addition to the standard singles and doubles formats, 2GGT: Abadango Saga features a Mewtwo round robin. This event features seven exceptional Mewtwo players, including Abadango himself, playing a total of 36 sets against each other. The winner will earn bragging rights as the king of the Mewtwo ditto.
