  • Do you plan to play SSB Wii U competitively just like Melee? Or are you gonna stream it for fun?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
not sure but not planning on playing it much atm
Hi Peepee, do you have any tips regarding shining someone on a platform then wavelanding on the platform? I seem to have trouble jump canceling the shine when I either land on the platform or hit someone('s shield) since the timing is a bit longer to compensate for hitlag. Or do you just recommend brute forcing it into your muscle memory?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
I would practice making sure you can hit them then waveland first. Do it really slow at first so you can get it right, then speed up more and more as you get comfortable with it.
Hey Dr Peepee could you tell me where I can find a program to display button inputs in game for PM/Brawl/Melee please? I've searched and searched and cannot find anything, but I know such a thing exists!

    Best Regards,

Hi, Doctor Peepee, I watched/read one of your articles/videos (i don't remember what it was exactly) where you said that you would record & practice against your little brother.
    Chaos Dunk
    Chaos Dunk
I ask because my friends tend to get really frustrated if I actually try and will want to quit. Did your little brother ever get mad because you outclassed him frequently or did you let him win every once in a while to make sure he didn't get upset?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
he didn't get mad about losing frequently until much much later in our competitive careers. recently if he gets mad we just talk about why he's getting mad and how to counter whatever I'm doing. training partners improving together is super good and benefits both.
Hey! I was wondering if you have any tips on how to start a competitive scene? The Middle East has a lot of smashers I've met through Smashboards, but regional tourneys don't happen often, but I'd love to host one. What are some of your tips on starting a community?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
I think if you check out the melee it on me(miom) website there might be info on that. Finding venues close to most people that have owners who work with smashers is a great place to start in your situation. Having a Facebook or other type of community for you guys to get to know each other and share tips or socialize as smashers together is also probably really good.
Hey PP, I was wondering, which, if any, local tourneys do you plan on attending in the near future? I'm looking to come up to NC for some tourneys (since I only live like an hour away in upstate SC, and our only big tournament is like every 2 months or so), and I figured if I'm going to come up, I might as well falco ditto the best lol. Thanks in advance.

ascension on the 25th, chapel hill on nov 9th, then maybe mike's tourney. not sure what else yet.

Cool, thanks. I'll try to make it to at least one of those so I can falco ditto you. When that happens, prepare to uh, win by not 4 stocks or something. Whatever, as long as we both try our best that's good enough for me
Hello Kevin aka PPMD, greetings from lima peru, I'm a big fan of you. I play a pretty solid falco (won my first regional as falco), and I also have a pretty good fox, but I want to play Marth like you. How should my mindset be when playing as marth?
    Oskurito
    Oskurito
thank you, I didn't expect a quick reply. which things do you think that every player should master when playing as marth?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
dtilt, dash dance, uthrow killing techniques
    Oskurito
    Oskurito
thank you sir. I wish you all the best for apex 2015, I want to see you win. Good luck!
Hey, PP! I'm a huge fan of your Marth and your Falco. I was wondering if you could help me understand how Marth should be approaching the Ice Climber match up and the Peach match up in neutral. These are match-ups I don't get to play often, though I think I'd like it if I could just receive help on the Ice Climber side for now. I have been watching your videos and I'm not sure if I'm looking overlooking a few things.
    Vivec
    Vivec
I guess for this match-up I'm lost on more specific things that I should be looking for from the ice climbers (and how I should react to them) and how I should be moving around the ice climbers/what moves I should be using (and why).
    Vivec
    Vivec
I hope this isn't too much to bombard you with all at once and I can see it appearing as though I'm asking for a guide on how to do the match-up (and I might as well be). So if you don't want to respond, that's fine, but hopefully you will ^_^
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
for falco neutral you need to space bair/dair on them and laser a lot and occasionally grab. the dtilt is more for kills unless they dont adapt to it.

marth you need to be close enough to dtilt/fair and they can't WD but far enough away to avoid dsmash.
Peepee! Love your Falco, sad you weren't at BH4! But I understand that some things take precedence over Smash. :) Do you have any general tips on fighting Jigglypuff as Falco? How exactly are you supposed to approach? Also, is up-throw to an aerial a guaranteed combo?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
thanks for understanding =) laser her and approach with dair/nair/grab when she's grounded. if she's airborne just inch your way forward and sh bair her if she's 1-2 jumps up and FH bair if she's higher than that! patience is key.

Uthrow aerial is not guaranteed but on most players it is
Hey! First of all, you are an amazing player and a huge inspiration. I recently (been playing a couple of months) jumped into competitive smash after playing casually for so long, now maining Fox and Falco [also playing CF, sheik (old time casual main) and some marth], and, I'm kind of stuck in my process of "getting better" at the game.
    S
    sTiCkZ
Sometimes though, unless I choke of being hyped, I can win a game or two, but then it's the same thing all over again. I think my main problem is not about the tech skill (I can do whatever I want more or less tech wise), but about where I put my focus in the game. Most of the time I look at my character while doing basically everything, which I guess is not that good.
    S
    sTiCkZ
For instance, while I'm trying to bait something out/approach, either my focus on my opponent is too bad so I can't react to whatever he's doing, or I for example overshoot badly (maybe won't even reach my opponent of have a "slow" nair) and get punished. My question is, how do you "look" at the screen when playing? Where do you focus so you can react "better" and not fall into "traps" and instead play your game?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
looking at the screen better comes from understanding the game better. if you can realize the intent behind all of your actions and those of your opponent then you will be seeing better. if you can find any of my posts or others on fundamentals that will be a good place to start.
Hi PP, I saw you on the MSM vods and I just wanted to say, you played great! Also have you lost weight?

PP, have you considered trying any contact sports, like martial arts or fencing, as something to do for fun? You seem like the person who would excel at them given your mindset to smash.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
learning a martial art is top 3 things i want to do for myself in the future! fencing is interesting too haha
    Hello there, PPMD.
I have a few things I would like to say/ask.
    1. You're my favorite smasher of all time.
    2. Sorry to fanboy.
    3. Are you planning on ever starting a stream, or do you have a career you're pursuing?
    4. Wavedashing is difficult for me with Falco because I'm used to Fox's speed. Is this common?
    5. Thanks for giving me the inspiration I need to finish my dedicated card game.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
    1. thanks!
    2. it's okay
    3. im working hard on it
    4. yes! practice with just falco for a while and look at your hands slowing them down if need be
    5. you got this!
So what would you say is the metagame right now and thoughts on Mewtwo?
I've been playing around with him a lot and he seems pretty good but why is he so low on the tier list?
I check a lot of sources before asking you anything, by the way.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
Mewtwo is low because he cannot approach well and CC beats most of his options. He is light but also easy to combo. He is not very mobile and his projectile game is very weak. He doesn't have very good options when people get in close to him either and no safe OOS game. His grab range is also small so one of his better kill options is hard to land.
I've noticed you've been going Marth more and Falco less. I was wondering if it's based on the matchup or the person you're playing, if you're just more confident in Marth rather than Falco. I would like to know because I main both Falco and Marth and wanted to know if there's a reason as to which your pick. Also, why are you so good at Marth dittos? xD PS:Bummed you won't be at BH4, but we better see you at Apex
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
I pick more Marth lately because he feels easier to me =p Mostly Falco play will be coming back soon I think!

I learned Marth very well and since it's all about DD Dtilt I love Marth dittos since that's what I love to do haha.

    I'll be at Apex! =)

Gotta defend the throne! Anyway, I was wondering who you have for winning Big House. I think Armada has the best chance, but M2K would be the fairy tale ending but, well, he's always the wildcard.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
I think Armada has a very good chance at winning Big House. I would say his odds are best actually. Mango is second most likely to win in my mind.
Hey! I have a question about your Marth's movement. Are you using both dashing and wavedashes to adjust your space and move faster? If so then is there a clear pattern that you follow?
    Iceman
    Iceman
Fascinating! Could you explain the tempo part a little more? Also did you start practicing by trying not to get by a lvl 9 cpu?
    Iceman
    Iceman
Do you use movement differently with your Falco?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
The basics of the tempo is a short dash is a faster tempo and a longer dash is a slower tempo. Then this is within context of an overall faster or slower DD.

I practiced in the game by dodging level 7, then 8, then 9 CPU attacks. Then moved on to counterattacking or dodging.

I use it differently with Falco because his dash is shorter and of course he's slower overall and uses lasers but many ideas transfer.
Hi PP. Just wanted to say thank you for all your help that you give people. OMG like really thank you. But I do need some help, I main Peach in Melee and I need to get associated with the Fox and Falco matchup. Could you give me some tips?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
    of course! =)

I don't know toooo terribly much about peach but I know you're better off floating and spacing vs fox because you need to control your space and catch him trying to come in if he comes in at all. so like FC fair then sometimes float or just WD back so you can CC dsmash.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
vs falco float over his lasers and then you can advance towards him much better. if he's not shooting then same type of thing as fox.

they both like to FH away so Uair that.

    OMG thank you so much. If I win the tourney I'm going to tomorrow, I'm shouting you out. ;o;
    Hey, man.
I've been playing Smash Bros. since I was a little kid but just recently started getting interested in the competitive scene. I know I'm probably a little late on that but I am serious about becoming good enough to appear in major events down the line. I was wanting to know your thoughts on Ganon's state right now and what characters are seeing a rise in improvement.
    Vhozek
    Vhozek
One last thing, though cause I don't wanna be here all day asking you stuff. Hmm... what about Sheik? I'm willing to learn to play Marth, Puff, and I already know Sheik but is Sheik doing better than Marth and Puff? And if I play Puff, am I forced to play conservatively?
    Vhozek
    Vhozek
Oh and which of the mid-to-low tier do you see going up?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
the metagame is not spacies. that is a common misconception. all of the high tier guys at the least are very fine to play. if you want to play sheik that's fine because m2k is keeping her quite relevant right now!

not sure on mid tier guys i would be really surprised if any more went up but who knows lol
hey Dr. Peepee i was wondering what do you think marth's best options OOS agiainst spacie shield pressure? or would you recommend baiting them by dashing back and pivot grabbing their approach, or something like that. Thanks and im really inspired by your marth.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
yeah try to avoid being in shield vs spacies. if it happens try to get a WD OOS or roll sometimes and occasionally grab since it kinda works unless they space themselves really well
    F
    FrogMarth
awesome. so you wouldn't try doing a dair or fair or something OOS unless they mess up pretty bad? anyways while i have you i find my self shielding against spacies the most., especially falco . i feel like this is a result of me not being very threatening with my my dash dance and not being able to act offensively out of it . what would you suggest?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
you can do that stuff oos but it's better if they're not close to you.

if you shield a lot then you need to dodge with movement more. practice moving or jabbing when a laser hits you right away it helps a lot
Heya PP, I don't have other people to practice with. Since I don't how should I be practicing? Also, are you going to Mid State Massacre 4?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
practice shadowboxing, getting hit by lasers and moving off of them, combo ideas and edgeguard ideas and juggle ideas. your imagination becomes really important here as you have to think of what your option covers and then how the opponent will respond and then how you will beat that response next. this also applies to combos and how they might DI.

    im not going to MSM
Hey PP, aspiring marth main here. The Memphis, TN crew and I are going to tipped off 10, so I was hoping I could get some friendlies with you if I don't meet you in tourney. My tag's "ippo". Good luck against hbox, and I'll see you there!
Hi PP, got a couple questions :]
About how often do you play friendlies? (smashfests, tournies, playing with your bro, etc.)

    And...

How should I approach playing friendlies against people significantly below my skill level, around my skill level, and above my skill level)? If you could link me to any resources/ players that could help, that would be great!
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
i play friendlies about twice a week on average right now. depends on at my place or tourneys because one is much more than the other haha.

below= try out ideas, build confidence

above= practice DI and test the ideas, notice what isn't working

at= apply and work hard to execute own gameplan. take elements of above and below to push yourself
    T r a n

    Thanks, I appreciate it :]
    Hey PP,

I want to beat Mew2King in Sheik dittos. I have access to practice with Shroomed regularly, as well as a bunch of other NorCal Sheiks. What kind of practice would you recommend I do, if I just want to focus on that goal?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
    1. learn your strongest punishments(mixups relevant here) off of throws since i assume this will be no CG.

    2. like 1, get common edgeguards down. most sheiks won't do all of m2k's so you'll have to tell them to use his.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
    3. learning when to boost grab vs dash attack vs space fair(and options out of fair) is vital for neutral. challenge actions after other sheik fairs to see what works and observe when your own fairs and actions after them suffer
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
oh also talk to KK if you haven't already. he knows far more about sheik and the ditto than I do
Hey PPMD I have been researching top players so of course you came up but I am curious. When did you change your name from Drpeepee? I can't seem to find this information anywhere one day it was just different. Would be cool if you could help clear up the confusion
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
i changed it in may when i joined EG!
    Honorable Evil Genius PPMD,
I am a Mewtwo/MK main in Project M. I know you don't play PM too much (if at all) but i do come to you witn questions concerning the Falco MU.

Say a Falco ia landing with dair. Whats the best response to beat it before he frame traps me with Shine? Mewtwo's grab is frame 7 ans MK's frame 6. Both of their Usmashes OoS are 8 frames.

Whats the fastest way to improve for long term?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
you can grab if he hits your shield high or beat it if he hits your shield late by hitting him before the dair comes out. if he hits your shield late/low then you have to have the shine hit your shield but you can shield DI it at least.

fastest way to improve is to practice regularly, focus on the fundamentals of the game, learn from watching videos, and learn from playing other opponents.

Thanks to you I'm now trying to get Ganondorf (who I've chosen to get better with and be my main) ready... or at least presentable for a tourney, so do you have some tips on melee competitively overall?
    Dr Peepee

    1. practice smart and daily

    2. focus on the fundamentals

    3. make friends

figure out which one you think gives you the best shot of winning and pick that. or figure out which one fits your style of play the best and pick that. or pick whichever one you enjoy the most. couple of different ways to do it but you really have to believe in your decision.
    Airfall
    Airfall
    Okay, thanks for the advice!
How do you not get crushed by Marth as Falco? My stage control could be better, but it's pretty frustrating to eat a random f-smash and get edge guarded for free. I have to do so much work to keep pace as Falco, and when I switch and Marth ditto it feels so much easier.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
keeping your lasers out is always really good, and so is not rushing in too much. also grabbing him is really strong once your lasers make him shield. going marth works some too haha =p
I just watched your dismantling of M2K and everyone else at at Apex 2014.... I never realized how tight your Marth was! Good stuff
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
haha i love my marth, thanks a ton! =)
Hey are you going to TFC in Raleigh? Also when and why should you implement wavedashes into your DD game with Marth?
    Dr Peepee

    i am going!

and you should WD whenever you need to readjust your space farther than dashing will allow
