  • If Nintendo wanted ARMS to become the next Splatoon, don't you think Nintendo would have put more effort into making ARMS? It has overly simplistic gameplay and a lack of content. The game had no chance of becoming the next Splatoon and Nintendo would have known that before they released it.

Agreed. It was a fine game, but it was very small in scope. Splatoon had an entire single player campaign to get the players familiar with the mechanics.
ARMS was just a regular arcade fighter.
A "90's kid" who grew up with Banjo should get a job at Rare and then be able to make new Banjo games.

I imagine the industry is rife with micro-management, however. So such an individual would be but a drop in the pond. Besides that, I think it would ultimately be up to someone 'higher up the totem pole' to make that call.

There are probably already lots of people who grew up with Banjo-Kazooie that work at Rare. It’s not like it’s up to each employee to decide which game a studio makes
If Smash is a celebration of gaming, gaming means both 1st and 3rd party games, so don't you think 1st and 3rd party characters should have the same criteria and rules to get into Smash? If obscure 1st party characters can join, then obscure 3rd party characters should be allowed to join too. Sure, obscure 3rd parties would cost Nintendo money to use, but this is Smash we're talking about. Smash is going to make millions of dollars regardless of how popular or obscure a 3rd party character is.

    RetrogamerMax
Well, 3rd party licencing is more complicated since Nintendo doesn't own the rights to any 3rd party properties they invite to Smash. It's up to the copyright owners if more characters from their own franchises can be added to the roster as if Nintendo asks and said company says no, there's nothing Nintendo can't do about it since that property isn't their's.
When N64 Online gets added to Switch Online, Conker's Bad Fur Day should be one of the games, but it should be heavily censored. Most of the blood could be painted a different color and Nintendo would tell us it's not blood. A lot of the profanity could also be censored and some suggestive cutscenes could also be removed. The NSO version of CBFD could just be censored to point where it would get a T rating, but SOME of the blood, language and raunchy moments would still be in it.

There's no middle ground here though, you can't possibly make it T either. There's too much graphic imagery to censor in the key parts of the game.
    • A giant singing mountain of crap who uses profanity.
    • Dumping squirrels into a grinder to feed a giant vampire
    • Ripping the butt-cheeks off a giant caveman.
    • Fighting Nazi teddy bears with military attire and machine guns. We have to delete that whole chapter.
    • A chest-buster killing the main antagonist after your girlfriend got murdered.
    • Gigantic booby sunflower
    • Having to blow zombie's heads off to kill them.
    • Pissing on rock people.
    • Crushing a baby dinosaur for a blood sacrifice.
    • Hitting a boiler's hanging balls for damage.
Rareware is not going to go through the trouble of having to delete/censor all of that when the end result will probably be a large amount of backlash from the community. You either keep it as it is (or with slight censorship like in Live & Reloaded) or don't bring it at all.

Then maybe it could just be a $20 eShop game. If it was free on Switch Online, kids could play it and they would see all the bad things about it, but if it costed money, they would need their parents to buy it for them and that wouldn't happen.
    Shroob
    Shroob
Yeah, you'd need to do a lot to censor Conker. Blood is barely the issue when you have stuff like piles of crap that say they'll stuff your head in their butt and one of Conker's abilities is getting drunk off his ass and pissing on things.
Diddy Kong Racing (N64 version) will be lost in the sands of time if it never gets ported to a current gen console. Super Mario Bros. NES will never be lost since it has tons of ports while Diddy Kong Racing has none. When N64 Online gets added to Switch Online, Diddy Kong Racing needs to be in it.
It's important that a streaming service has original shows or else there's no reason to pay for the service since you can watch all of its shows on other services. No exclusive shows, no business.
I wish the new COPPA rules were gone so we could comment on the videos that are "made for kids."
We're more than halfway through Vol. 2 and it's not even close to December 2021. At the rate the Vol. 2 characters are releasing, Vol. 2 will be complete by this June or July.

    E3 for endgame?
I mean I'm guessing they probably want to stretch it out, and save the last fighter for a later point this year, but we've had 2 reveals at E3 in the past, and it would be a pretty hype time to end it.
Don't think this is going to happen myself, but it's food for thought.
Isn't today the one year anniversary of when the pandemic began? This pandemic is a tragedy so let's not call this an anniversary of it. We'll need to invent a new word for anniversaries of bad things. What about Tragiversary? Today is the one year tragiversary of when the COVID-19 pandemic started.
Why was Soul free on Disney+ but not Raya and the Last Dragon? Soul was free when it came out but you need premium access to see Raya.
    Torgo the Bear

My guess is there's probably some difference in decision-making between Disney and Pixar.

Also, Soul wasn't in theaters, right? Raya is...so maybe that has something to do with it?
This pandemic should be over by next January. What would you say?

That depends entirely on if conservatives will get their heads out of their asses and actually start taking it seriously. They and their orange messiah are the whole reason it went out of control in this country. All they had to do was put a freaking piece of cloth over their face and keep their distance for a few months, and we probably would have been in a similar situation as some other countries that got it under control within the first few months. Instead we have half a million americans dead and counting all due to some assholes couldn't let go of their ego's for one minute.

Inkling Man Inkling Man are you talking about COVID? Because I think COVID will be around for several more years. COVID ain't going anywhere.

It's not going anywhere, but we can still get it under control like how we got the Flu under control. Getting COVID-19 under control is how we can end the pandemic.
Imagine if Smash 6 has a total of 25 newcomers from both the base game and DLC combined. Would it make a difference if 3 of these characters were ad characters? There would still be 22 requested newcomers.
Is Paper Mario: Sticker Star a Cars 2/Shrek 3 type of sequel?
    R
    RetrogamerMax
Yep. Sticker Star is clearly the worst Paper Mario game in the series as it is the blandest one with no partners, a poor storyline and no JRPG mechanics. Super Paper Mario didn't have JRPG mechanics either, but at least it was a fun platformer with amazing story and memorable cast. Sticker Star was so bad, I stopped playing it after 2 levels. It bored me.
There's lots of team characters in Smash but do Pyra/Mythra count as a team character? They're the same person but with different personalities.
Of course Mythra has her censored costume. Her default costume wouldn't be appropriate for Smash. The costume would also look jarring in a game for all ages.
    Shroob
    Shroob
Her censored costume looks better tbh.

It's really not that much worse than ZSS's alt or Bayonetta's anything. The problem is less Smash and more the rating agency CERO's strict rules on achieving that particular rating. Its certainly on the short side, but IIRC that's basically the same amount of skin Bayonetta shows in her Smash attacks.
ARMS and Xenoblade 2 both got the treatment they deserved.
    R
    RetrogamerMax
Yeah. I was afraid that wasn't going to happen and Nintendo would have forgotten us and just made all the DLC 3rd party. That was my fear. I wanted Elma from Xenoblade X, but I accept Pyra/Mythra since Xenoblade does deserve a 2nd rep and I was afraid they were going to go off in this game without a Xenoblade newcomer.
In the E3 2018 Direct, Sakurai said Smash was an action game, but in the Sephiroth showcase he says Smash is a party game. So what genre is Smash?

    not many.

proof that the fact Smash has characters from almost every corner of gaming is the reason it's so popular.

Many people probably wouldn't care about Smash very much if it weren't a crossover. I know I wouldn't
    R
    RetrogamerMax
64 and Melee was originally just a crossover between Nintendo All Stars and back then before Brawl introduced 3rd party characters it was popular. 3rd parties just expanded the Smash fanbase as it made more people invested in Smash as they knew any video game character could potentially make it in starting in Brawl. But yes, it being a crossover between franchises is part of the reason why Smash is so popular.

Super Mario 3D World Switch has more minor changes than other Wii U ports do. The X next to the life and coin counters is gone, the stamps are now colored in, the propeller platforms are replaced with regular platforms and there's only one save file.

Yeah but you can make more Switch user profiles if you want more save files since each user gets one save file.

2020 could have been a great year if COVID-19 never existed.
Super Mario 64's 25th anniversary is this year. Will Nintendo celebrate it? It is a very revolutionary game.
During the 2000's, Pixar was more consistantly good than Disney and during the 2010's, Disney was more consistantly good than Pixar. Will Pixar make more films that surpass Disney films this decade?
It feels like streaming services will be the future of TV watching. Will people still watch cable in the future?
    R
    RetrogamerMax
Yep, I think streaming services are the future as you get to watch all the episodes to your favorite shows or movies whenever. I ditched cable television almost a decade ago for the Roku and I do not regret that decision. Streaming services are a 1000 times better than cable television.
