  • I'm pretty happy with this Direct.

Super Monkey Ball is getting ported like I've been wanting.
A modern Mario Party game going back to traditional basics with classic minigames I love is coming.
    Worms on Switch.
Shin Megami Tensei 5 looking absolutely gorgeous and absolutely worth my wait.
Pretty "eh" on WarioWare but looks promising.
Funnily, the Smash character this time was neither a platformer character popular among western fans who wanted scriblo blimbo nor a JRPG anime swordsman protagonist, so both sides of Smash fans fighting over something so stupid lost.

    Losers.
I hope we get Jibanyan for Smash. If not, won't bother getting too upset by it. Not like I play Ultimate as much anyway since that game angers me to no end.
Pretty happy Coromon is coming to Switch. Those sprites are fantastic.

Also really looking forward to Palworld early access. That game looks incredible.

Palworld looks hilarious, I just hope it doesn't die because it keeps getting called a Pokemon Clone.

Yo-Kai Watch is still alive and well despite stupid westerners being so uptight to defend theor nostalgic Dragon Quest clone anyway.
"I'm gonna be honest with you
I've had more fun with this more than any Pokemon game I've played, and I'm not even finished with this game's story yet.
I thought Pokemon was just "alright" and I felt a few things were missing from it in later titles that could really help the franchise evolve and become and better and better. Always improving upon itself with each entry. But it hasn't done that.
    "

    - My friend after playing Yo-Kai Watch Busters at my recommendation
I'll be fine with the JRPG side of Smash fans winning if the JRPG is Jibanyan Yo-Kai Watch.
I'll be fine with the Platformer side of Smash fans winning if the Platformer is Spyro the Dragon.
Who cares what genre the game is, so long as it's a character I want?
Recently found this channel that shows off so many clever and interesting strategies for clearing a bunch of the hardest bosses in Yo-Kai Watch Busters and I'm loving every minute of it.
Gamers and stereotypical game journalists that cry about wanting games to have difficulty options should be forced to actually play this game because they actually get what they want but in the worst possible way.

Reason being is because your difficulty options for the bosses are:
-Normal (which is hard on its own for so many of the bosses)
    - Super hard
    - Ultra hard

You get difficulty options and yet you're still forced to git gud.

Goomboi Goomboi You did and fortunately for you, a bunch of Komasan's forms are on the stronger side, especially in these games. Frankly, tons of monsters are strong and useful in spite of how hard these games are, so there's a ton of variety to them.

Difficulty options are dumb. Make a game where someone doesn't feel insulted for choosing Easy, or feel like they have to get the "complete" experience by playing the hardest difficulty.
Considering Pokemon Go kinda sucks and people only defend its nonsense just because it's a Pokemon game on top of Niantic's other games being awful from what I'm told, I have good reason to believe that this upcoming Pikmin game is also going to be terrible.

Also, Hey Pikmin is just a trash attempt at what Wario Land was already good at.
Seeing Yo-Kai Watch trending on Twitter is one of the few times Twitter has done anything good and meaningful in a while.

For a social experiment wishing more westerners actually gave it a chance instead of hating it for no real reason.
Seems to me players are upset about Pyra because she's the first character in the game whose hitboxes actually match their animation.
After watching the Tom and Jerry movie, I must say...

The 3rd Yo-Kai Watch movie did a way better job of the cartoon characters in real life story than any movie Hollywood has ever made under the same premise with the possible exceptions of Sonic, Detective Pikachu and Roger Rabbit.

I challenge anyone to argue otherwise.

If we're talking about purely visuals, this looks to be on the same level as Sonic and Roger Rabbit (maybe a little worse than Sonic), but definitely not as immersive as Detective Pikachu.
In terms of story...well, I haven't seen any Yo-Kai Watch movies, so I wouldn't know. But if it's anywhere on the level of the anime (which I have seen some of), then I'm certain it's good.
"UGH, I HATE people making these jokes again and again about Mario disappearing on March 31st! They should stop."

    Hmmm.

    Interesting.

So whose fault is it again that people can MAKE those jokes in the first place?

    Oh, yeah.

    It's Nintendo's fault.

Seems silly to get angry at the people rightfully making fun of someone or something for being stupid.
    DrCoeloCephalo
    DrCoeloCephalo
The proper response wouldn't be to tell them to not make jokes. The proper response would be to vocally complain for them to NOT make games unavailable after March 31st for seemingly no reason. Then they can't make those jokes. It's very simple. If the action they're making fun of wasn't taken in the first place, they wouldn't be able to make fun of it.

If you stop DOING stupid things and stop SAYING stupid things then they can't RIDICULE you for those stupid things.
    Janx_uwu

I agree that Nintendo's anti-consumer practices are the reason people make jokes like that. Doesn't mean I have to think they're funny.
    DrCoeloCephalo
    DrCoeloCephalo
Nobody said you had to think they're funny.
Nobody saying you can't ignore them and go about your day if you don't like them or blame Nintendo that they can even make those jokes.
Just finished watching all of One Punch Man Season 2 and caught up on the original webcomic. Was reminded why it's one of my favorite series of all. Hope Season 3 gets proper confirmation someday.

Despite the hate for Season 2, the writing is still there. All that went down was the animation budget. Aside from that, Season 2 is probably just as good as Season 1.
I really hate when someone tries to act like people that don't fall under their illusion of normalcy or conformity are evil or should be avoided if the unorthodox things they're doing aren't hurting anyone.

I dealt with alot of mistreatment in my youth for my abnormal obsessions with SpongeBob and Pokemon.

Holy **** you literally just summed up my experience with my 4th grade social skills program.

The teacher Cindy always got mad when I talked about Pokemon, so I sat down with another kid and asked him what his favorite show was. He said Spongebob, so we talked about that for a bit. Not even 3 minutes later, Cindy comes back and gets mad that we've been "talking about Spongebob too much". *****, what DO you want us to talk about??? I ultimately left that program after my father decided it wasn't for me. I also got into frequent fights with one kid, and another kid randomly decided to bite me in the arm during a group meeting. Fun times.

I didn't know you were talking about the American school system Cephalo.
I think Smash fans that were upset about Byleth and now upset at Pyra-Mythra should have used these opportunities to learn to be smarter with their money.

You didn't HAVE to buy the Fighter Pass before knowing whom all the characters would be.

You chose to and now it's your own fault for paying for certain things you didn't want.

I didn't buy EITHER Fighter Pass. Someone bought the first one for me as a gift.

I have less to be upset about cuz I spent money on other stuff.
    Otoad64

I mean, I don't think I would be happier if I didn't purchase Fighter's Pass 2 before all of the characters were revealed

but I suppose that's just me

The problem is that people build unrealistic expectations for a particular character(s) inclusion viability and then get angry as if they were somehow cheated if they don't get in. Of the thousands of different characters that could potentially get in the game the odds that your one specific or even handful of specific characters getting in is very small. This is especially true of random niche characters from franchises few have ever heard of. Pretty much every DLC so far has been from current popular franchises or iconic historical franchises and not a side character from an obscure game that has a cult following at most. If you don't send in death threats to the head of whatever lotto you play whenever you don't win then the same thinking should be applied here.

The inverse of complaining when a character does get in is just sheer selfishness and entitlement. I wasn't thrilled when I heard Steve was in and my thoughts on him went from "Zoomer pandering cynical ploy to increase sales" to "Wow his moveset actually is pretty neat" to "The character was actually Minecart all along" but I didn't get bent out of shape and complain all over the internet. There was brief mild annoyance and then I didn't actually care anymore.
    DrCoeloCephalo

In other words, don't act like you were promised anything.
    I don't care about Zelda.
I didn't plan on buying Skyward Sword HD.
    I never did.
Still, hearing Skyward Sword Hd is 60 USD while the Wii U version is 20 USD AND has a MyNintendoRewards discount that costs 50 gold coins for a 40% discount, putting it 12 USD is most certainly going to make me raise an eyebrow at ultimately paying 5 times the proce for a port.

Yeah, that was pretty dirty of Nintendo to have never release those GBA games on the 3DS Eshop. It makes me wonder if porting these games on the Eshop or Online service is super easy and they're just too lazy to actually add more retro games.
    L
    link2702
on the 3DS it wasn't actually "super easy" from what i remember, it used a lot of the processing power of the 3DS iirc to run the emulator and then the GBA games effectively, hence why you couldn't put the 3ds into sleep mode while playing them like you could the snes and nes games. apparently they really threw the emulator together quickly to get it out there. I suspect probably by someway using the 3DS's ability to play DS games. Basically emulating the entire DS system GBA function and all.

Now of course it was pretty low of them to never release them on either the wii u shop or 3DS shop. But hey...least you can find them all fairly easily in secondhand stores.

    Or on the internet.
    DrCoeloCephalo
    DrCoeloCephalo
In other words, they put the emulation together very sloppily and were STILL able to do it anyway.
I love how Twitter users try SO hard to claim successful Japanese media is just as """"political"""" as financially failing western mediums by trying to use examples of things like Godzilla or Metal Gear Solid.

Both those things are far more grounded in history and science, which are completely separate from politics.

Godzilla, at its core, is just a simple message of "Nuclear weapons are dangerous." History has proven that and it's a simple scientific fact. You don't have to be Democrat or Republican or anything really for nuclear energy to still be deadly.

Stop reaching for or forcing political messages in everything.

It's been years since I've played a MGS game but I'm pretty sure all of the political stuff being addressed in the games has no parallels with what's been causing the decline of the western mediums of today. Japan doesn't care about western politics anyway, and it's a good thing they don't.
    DrCoeloCephalo
    DrCoeloCephalo
Japan only cares enough about western politics to treat them like a subtle joke as far as I can tell and otherwise doesn't care about them.

"Political" in this context just means very specific American culture war stuff. Japanese media can get very political, but you need the appropriate cultural context and background to appreciate it. MGS was very political and heavily criticized American imperialism and Military Industrial Complex as well as various other aspects of American society.
Spent my Valentine's Day with the one I love most of all:

My digital copy of Yo-Kai Watch 3.

Even after all these years and so many hours already put into it, the game still retains so much content to offer. I love it.
This made for some good self-reflection
Replaying Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth on New Game Plus with a completed Field Guife gives you complete freedom to choose and raise any monster you want from the beginning and I love that kind of freedom.
Apparently Smash Twitter for the past few days was crying over ahegao hoodies and falsely accusing loli and anime fans of being pedophiles only for some other big name in the Smash community like Raffi X to get ousted as an actual pedophile.

Twitter seems to have a pretty constant pattern where groups that claim harmless fiction is a problem are the ones with the problem.
The high quality of these animations brimming with personality and the songs that go with them always make me smile.
One thing I will always appreciate Yo-Kai Watch for is how every one of its monsters has a memorable personality and despite the game being so challenging, they still manage to make almost every monster usable, either in the casual main game, the tough and challenging late game and postgame and even giving a ton of lower Rank guys a way to shine in the metagame.

Seems Monster Sanctuary will be getting a New Game Plus feature soon. Can't wait to replay it since I'm getting close to the end of the game's story.

It'll be even more fun with this little dude in my team.
Being pro-gatekeeping and a fan of a niche series is a match made in heaven.

Their threats of "You make me not want to play the game!" are empty and amount to less than nothing since they were never interested in the series to begin with and if they're someone undesirable to associate with in the fandoms they're already in, then all the better.

Plus, if the game is complex and challenging, it will do its own job of filtering out the weak so you don't have to.

    You win either way.
I seem to notice a pattern where that guys whom defend Pokemon SWSH when pointed out to them games like Yo-Kai Watch 3 have 752 monsters in one game and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 have 712 monsters in one game, they'll 9 times out of 10 try to deflect that counterpoint and ignore it and not even challenge it. I've only ever seen one person try to challenge that point and all they could ever say was "Akshually the animations in these games aren't THAT good."

    Pretty funny.

In my opinion, you lose any and all rights to use the word "weeaboo" as an insult if you yourself enjoy or praise any kind of Japanese media or entertainment.
    DrCoeloCephalo
    DrCoeloCephalo
Some do and that's fine but I have seen people that try to use it as an insult whilst having a profile dedicated to some kind of Japanese entertainment, which is silly.
    Fuzzy Pickles!
    Fuzzy Pickles!
Except, not really. There's a big difference between being a fan of Japanese media and entertainment and being a weeaboo. A weeaboo is someone who thinks that the world revolves around Japan, particularly its media and entertainment, see the society as inherently better than others, and talk about wanting to live there (but never making the move to do so). That's a problem because it blinds them to the flaws of the Japanese culture while also ignoring the benefit of their own home culture. It also doesn't factor in that franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog are geared primarily towards a Western audience (and should be seen as a lesson for how Japanese culture can appeal to Westerners going forward).

I speak at someone who was a weeaboo when I was younger, it's not an inaccurate insult. Rude, sure, but it's a call to get someone totally infatuated with Japan to grow up for a reason.
    R
    RetrogamerMax
Yep. Japan's cool, but they have restless work hours and overworked culture as most Japanese only sleep a couple of hours a day or less from what I've heard. I would visit Japan someday, but I'm not entirely sure I would ever live there as I struggle to sleep and only getting that short amount to do so? No way I could do that.
