Some people seem bafflingly determined to stick exactly to what the characters are like in the games, even if Smash has found ways to work around those same problems before. Remember the whole "Ridley's too big" debate? Some people were acting like it was literally impossible for the people behind the game to scale Ridley down, when that's exactly what they wound up doing. (heck, even in the first game, Ness's specials were taken from other party members, while Falcon's attacks were completely made up, so they're not above taking some creative license if they have to)

It seems like either a lack of imagination (they can't picture that, for example, Captain Toad would just have low jumps and a good B-up move to compensate) or like they don't want the character and are just trying to come up with justification/an excuse. I don't get it.

I still blame Miyamoto for pushing the Toads to be treated like the Smurfs (and even then, many of those lads have defined personalities).

On the bright side, we're nearly out of major (non-spin-off) Mario characters, so it really comes down to either Pauline or CT as the next one, assuming Koizumi doesn't do something radical in his next Mario game by then.
