    I don't think anyone would be upset about Master Hand if he were to end FP2. Like, literally every single Smash fan knows who he is and has fought against him.
    When I see people treat Metroid as one of Nintendo’s highest priority or most iconic franchises, especially over series like Animal Crossing or even Pokémon, I just imagine an overgrown 90s kid who’s been living under a Memphis triangle-adorned rock for the past 27 years.
    With the obvious exception of Sonic 1, Classic Sonic games don’t punish going fast, they punish mindlessly going fast for the sake of going fast. That’s one of the reasons momentum is so important to not only Sonic, but high speed platforming in general.
    Donkey Kong 64 was originally supposed to be a Crash style corridor platformer.

    Not to get political but:

    Cons:
    -Characters that needed HEAVY retooling get only a few touch ups because all the time was spent in bringing everybody back.
    -Following Smash games will suffer from though act to follow, because no future roster will ever be as large.
    -No extra modes to play with them outside of the basic ones. No Smash Run or Adventure Mode (actual sidescrolling Adventure Mode like in Melee and Brawl) and many other ones.

    Despite this, i think "Everyone is Here" will be THE reason why Smash Ultimate will be played for ages. I can see it being played again in the future due to its Dream Match status, like Marvel vs Capcom 2 and KOF 98/2002. When the servers ever go down years in the future, then that means someone could pull up a Slippi on Ultimate (Smash/Nintendo Fans are as stubborn as Nintendo when it comes to fan projects)
    I honestly kinda like to believe Little Mac is intentionally underpowered because it fits with the main theme of Punch-Out! perfectly - using sheer skill and wits to rise up as the champion against those who are clearly more powerful than you

    But he has raw power when he hits you in Smash with a ton of damage, knockback and super armor. Not to mention KO punch which kills at like 20% and can't be blocked.

    He feels more like a powerful brute his opponent must outwit then an underdog.

    Yeah, if I were to remake Mac's moveset, I'd give him some half-decent aerials (but not good enough to the point where it ruins his "ground fighter" thing-just make them usable), give him a mechanic where his rolls are the fastest in the game and increase his power afterwards for a short moment (like a manual counterattack, of sorts), and make his smashes do slightly more damage and knockback but sacrifice the super armor.

    I like the ideas, except for the aerials. If that was intended to be his shortcoming, it would be no obligation to improve them.
    The Transformers and SpongeBob Splatfests imply the 80s animation dark age and 90s animation renaissance both happened in the Splatoon universe, which furthermore implies The Simpsons exists in the Splatoon universe, therefore meaning there’s a Matt Groening inkling in Splatoon canon.

    I’m pretty sure those were technically already implied, given the fact that Splatoon actually takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. I guess it’s just a case where the Inklings haven’t forgotten the old pop culture

    Sponsored Splatfests make no sense in Splatoon canon and break all my immersion as a result. The series is set over 12,000 years from now and you expect me to believe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are still around by then? Hell no. They even talk about Super Mario Bros.'s 35th anniversary like it's happening at that point in time when it clearly isn't! They only make me question whether Splatfests were ever canon to begin with.
    I think one thing a lot of people on both sides of the Smash Wario debate don’t realise is just how much Land DNA is in Ware. Tiny Wario was in Smooth Moves, the shoulder bash is used in quite a few microgames, there’s tons of Land themed microgames, there’s a few Land easter eggs in cutscenes, and Wario’s love for garlic even stays throughout both series,

    Like seriously, Wario would have his Land moveset, Waluigi would be in Smash, and the Ware moveset would live through Waluigi. That’s 3 Smash fandom problems solved at the same time.

    Yeah, because going up on stage, working your way through a bracket to the top, and losing a cash prize in fronts of tens of hundreds of people because a Ramblin’ Evil Mushroom made you jump straight into the Hyrule Castle tornado while a dog is jumping on the screen sounds so fun, doesn’t it?

    I feel like it's more about certain mentalities than it is competitive vs casual. Been playing Deep Rock Galactic with a friend fairly regularly and it isn't a competitive game, but it does have a steep learning curve for a co-op shooter. Higher levels get into more optimal builds and higher difficulties are more strict on how much you can slack on those optimizations. The highest difficulty demands pretty strict attention to builds and general teamwork and fundamentals.

    But something I noticed is that a lot of high level players are obsessed with optimization to the point of it having no practical benefit. They get very animated and angry if you don't have your build dialed down to a tee and they absolutely refuse to acknowledge build experimentation or playing with wacky or esoteric builds. Even if you can handle yourself just fine they will berate you for it. But the worst thing is that they often aren't good with the fundamentals and will struggle even with their optimized builds and fail at missions my friend and I can breeze through with our less than ideal builds. It kind of becomes a case study in that optimization isn't going to be inherently better if you don't have good fundamentals.

    I understand the importance of optimization and have witnessed how much difference better tweaking can be, but there comes a point when obsessive optimization kills any sort of variety or uniqueness and having any fun. Worse still is when there isn't much practical benefit past a certain point. But these weirdos have built a sort of elitism around all this. And I think there is overall an obsession with optimization to the point that people are losing sight of rather important aspects about these various games. And it's causing people to associate competitiveness with soul sucking optimization obsession that kills any sort of creativity or fun in the game.

    Competition is fun, but there are ways of going about it that can very easily stop it being fun. Casuals seem to be confusing the difference as do competitive players that try to apply goofy percentages to everything and forget that a good player can make good plays with unconventional moves.

    There are also, however, those mentalities that wish to offend others by using universal commentaries of address. One person who says "casuals" could innocently be talking about an attitude, but in context, there are others who say "casual" as a header for a following insult. This applies to labels in general, so great discernment must be made as to whether or not an individual is using a statement aggressively, or as their mode of expressing displeasure with an attitude. THIS IS HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE, AND DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU KNOW OF THE SPEAKER. I feel such comments often deserve a response, if for no other reason, to demonstrate that the effort is to little effect on the listener's person. On the other hand, and quite contrarily, it is often fitting not to give a response for the same reason. Again, this is a call for discernment.
    Everybody says we need Crash in Smash so we can have a 90s console wars “rematch”, but the rematch we really need is...
    One idea I had that is inexplicably funny to me is making a web series where all the characters’ designs are brazenly plagiarised from well known, copyrighted characters with no changes apart from art style, and they have nothing in common with those characters - not personality, not backstory, not friends, not even name or voice. Like, Jonathan is a well meaning but unfun lawyer with a deep voice, also he looks like Tails from Sonic
    We get plenty of dark clones of hero characters, but we don’t get nearly enough heroic clones of evil characters.

    Consider this: Stories are built around heroes, so they are developed first. The villains, on the other hand, to generate an interesting conflict, very often has abilities resembling, rivalling, and/or surpassing the hero's. The "dark clone" effect is a natural consequence of this tradition.
    The Nintendo fandom’s idol worship problem is actually kinda worrying. I remember seeing people feeling betrayed over Reggie congratulating TLOU2’s TGA win like some kind of Captain America Hail Hydra thing - he didn’t even say he liked the game, just that he was happy for the devs!

    Listen, I don't like TLOU2 or anything, but what did people expect him to do? Say "Seriously? That game sucks lmao" and ridicule them? Reggie's a professional, and just being a good sport regardless of what his opinion on the game is.

    Not only is that dumb, it also shows a lack of understanding about the game design philosophies of Reggie and Nintendo. Reggie and Nintendo have repeatedly shown they care about gameplay a lot more than story, and seeing as how story is one of the biggest things people hate about TLOU2, someone who dosent care that much about story clearly won’t hate it as much.
    People are surprised Sakurai has a bad take about Cyberpunk when his game has stages based on NSMB2, Yoshi’s Story, and Sticker Star; as well as a character from Arms.

    A character becoming diverse in a retelling usually doesn’t result in them becoming a Mary Sue - it simply makes their existing Mary Sue-ish qualities easier to notice because of how we’ve been conditioned, mostly by white straight cis businessmen half-assedly trying to look progressive and extremely privileged diverse celebrities, to worship women and minorities on a godlike scale
    As a Nintendo fan... yeah, Nintendo should go third party, no doubt in my mind.

    I don't think Nintendo going third party means they have to abandon their platform. There is still a need for consoles among certain consumers so it's not like having a closed platform is necessary. And I think you could reach more consumers that have interest in Nintendo IPs but can't justify or can't afford to buy a console for one or two titles.

    I for one would love to ditch consoles entirely and play Smash and Zelda on my superior PC. They really are the only thing tying me to consoles now and I wasn't exactly happy with the way Ultimate turned out, so that may change in the future.

    And competition through exclusives isn't real competition, but monopoly.

    Wouldn't it be fair to say Nintendo should have a monopoly of their own titles? If they have their own platforms to sell it on...is there any true incentive for them to develop for three other platforms as well? We've seen port issues forever. I can't imagine the nightmare of shoddy Nintendo game ports to other platforms. Developers who don't have a system to sell their games on don't have much of a choice in this regard. Nintendo is an all in one company. If they develop games and hardware, they really don't need to develop for other systems and can focus on making the game work the best it can on one platform and one platform alone. Not try to base the development around 4 platforms in total and make sure the game functions proper on all of them.

    Monopolies aren't good precisely because they allow for stagnation and anti-competitive pricing or other anti-consumer practices. And when we're talking about platforms then the problem is even worse because it allows for content creators to sell exclusively through their own platform and thus have complete control over both the platform's pricing as well as the content's pricing. That resists natural regulatory forces like consumer choice and competition. This is why movie studios were not allowed to own their own theaters (well until recently >_>) and why streaming services and console manufacturers shouldn't be allowed to do the same.


    Though I don't think it would be a bad thing for Nintendo either. The console model is taking losses on hardware to sell them cheaply and then making them up with software. Having multi-platform games might allow Nintendo to ease up on hardware sales and just make money directly from software, thus improving their margins. Said software being the real thing people buy Nintendo for (Switch is an exception, but most Nintendo consoles aren't great tbh). That would limit their ability to price fix of course, but that's not really something they are supposed to be able to do in the first place.


    Ports are kind of a case-by-case thing. Bad ports are usually a result of cheaping out by hiring inexperienced developers or just being lazy in general. You can have really good ports and not-so-good ports as well, but I think a corporation that is as obsessed with image as Nintendo would probably want to make sure they have good ports. They may be bad at nearly everything else, but the one thing they pride themselves on is their game quality, so there would be an incentive to make sure every iteration is good.
    The Crash cartoon was cancelled over a single fart joke, which - hot take - was kinda the right call. Remember how mad people were that Detective Pikachu had a fart joke?
