  • My special moveset for Ayumi Tachibana
    B : Flashlight
; Ayumi shines a flashlight for a split second, briefly stunning fighters in a moderate area
B + Forwards : Sun Rays; Ayumi slowly walks forward and holds up a magnifying glass to use an angled ray of sunlight; the attack does more damage in stages that take place during the day
B + Up : Umbrella; Ayumi mervously opens her umbrella and gently floats down; unlike the parasols of :ultpeach::ultdaisy:, Ayumi's only hits once and:
    • It primarily takes Ayumi down slowly
    • It only really moves in one direction; tilting the control stick in the opposite direction simply slows it down
B + Down : Inspect; Ayumi looks down upon the ground with her magnifying glass, in which case there's a 50/50 chance she'll get an item
Final Smash: Case Closed; Ayumi glares at up to three opponents in front of her. Any that are within her vision radius are taken into a cutscene emulating the games where Ayumi deduces all three of the opponents as the perpetrators, sending them all flying away. If any of the opponents have an item, the attack deals 5% more damage.
I’m a little less cold to the idea of an Assist Trophy getting as DLC later down the line…but only a little.

I mean, to be fair, the DLC didn’t exactly start out with Assist promotions in mind.

Yeah, but Sakurai can do what he wants regardless of what the fans think. If a Spirit promotion and a secondary non Echo 3rd party villain can be DLC than so can a Assist Trophy promotion.
What if Edelgard was in Smash instead of Byleth?
    B : Hades Ω;
Edelgard charges up dark magic by holding down the B button. At full charge or any time before, pressing B has Edelgard summon a pillar of dark magic around herself.
B + Forwards : Raging Storm; Edelgard swings Amyr and moves somewhat forward. Each successful hit allows her to use the move again, but only when hits connect.
B + Up : Flickering Flower; Edelgard jumps up high and slams Amyr on the ground, creating a shockwave that briefly stuns fighters.
B + Down : Helm Splitter; Edelgard charges Amyr and slams down on the ground, which instantly breaks shields.
Final Smash: Black Eagle Strike Force; "Forward, now!" Edelgard blows up an explosive barrel in front of herself; opponents caught in the blast are taken in a cutscene where Edelgard calls the Imperial Guard and the Black Eagles to attack the enemy all at once.
Just a thought; how would you guys feel if the DLC was this?

It depends on how they play.

Spongeboob Spongeboob Alright, then. Here's how I figure each non-confirmed fighter would play:
    • Sakura would be a fast character who does decent damage
    • Edelgard would deal extreme damage with her attacks, but be a somewhat slow and heavy character (mainly due to having to carry Amyr around)
    • Crash would be an all-around fighter who mainly relies on his agility to avoid unnecessary conflict (maybe even use the Death Tornado Spin to save his arse)
    • Excitebiker would be a mostly-ground rooted fighter with situation moments in the air
    • Sora would be a combo-centric character with multiple options to keep combos going (be it normal attacks or his spells, which could beupgraded with Situation Commands but then would recharge when the Situation Command version is used)
    • Scorbunny would be a nimble but lightweight fighter who, like Excitebiker, would mostly stick to the ground
    • Euden would be a character who has options to fight without transforming, but should still be cautious until it's safe to transform
    • Eggman would be a somewhat slow character with great air speed but equally slow attacks as Edelgard, being in his Egg Mobile
    Let's be real.

You knew it was Sephiroth as soon as the music started.

It took me a second to recognize the song but the moment Cloud's face was shown it clicked. And I'm someone who's never even played an FF game.

I've played FFVII but never got far enough to hear One Winged Angel. I just knew it was him because the music was so intimidating. It gave me major Sephiroth vibes despite never seeing the guy in-game.

I recognized it but forgot what game it was from. So the buildup was even more satisfying when I remembered what it was from.
Well, there goes two beliefs I had thanks to Sephiroth:

-Multiple non-Echo characters from the same 3rd part franchise would only spark bias debates, ergo only Echoes work in this regard
-Sephiroth would have to be an Assist Trophy at most purely because of his sword

Basically, Sakurai doesn't give a ---- and I love it.

Yep, the AT detraction fell flat on it's face with Sephi. Definitely did not deserve just an AT.. he's Sephiroth, for crying out loud. Lmao. One of the most iconic villains. That'd be like making Eggman an AT.

    Deleted member
Also that "no more than one unique character from one company or game" fanrule also fell on it's face. Ken and Richter don't count as they're echoes. Sephi just broke a lot of fanrules today. Third-party villain. DLC villain. There were definitely fanrules for "no villain is going to be DLC".

Another Sonic rep (for example) is very likely now, maybe not for this game though. Unless they want to throw in Eggman last minute towards the end. They had to face that dumb fanrule before. Now that's no longer a thing.

    Thanks Sephi!

Thanks to Sephiroth, plenty of my most wanted characters like Zero, Tron Bonne, Chun-Li, and Gruntilda are not pipedreams anymore.
As much as I want Sakurai to get some well-deserved rest, I'm actually a little open to the idea of a Vol. 3 now.

personally I want this to be the last pass, tbh i kinda just want to know the final roster
Man, so much would've been possible for Melee if it weren't rushed. We could've gotten characters like:
    • Ayumi Tachibana
    • Wario
    • Maybe Banjo if it weren't for the legalese with Microsoft
    • Maybe Scizor if they wanted to add that instead of :pichumelee: since they'd have more time

why would we have gotten ayumi? she was rejected because it wouldn't make sense for her to fight. also we probably would have gotten :ultsonic::ultsnake: a game early

I managed to make her a special moveset that isn’t really combat-oriented, but moreso safety-oriented.

B : Flashlight; Ayumi shines a flashlight for a split second, briefly stunning fighters in a moderate area

And, in the event she returned for Ultimate:
Final Smash: Case Closed; Ayumi glares at up to three opponents in front of her. Any that are within her vision radius are taken into a cutscene emulating the games where Ayumi deduces all three of the opponents as the perpetrators, sending them all flying away. The attack does 5% more da age when any of the opponents has an item.
I'm honestly shocked that Charizard wasn't playable starting with Smash 64, seeing as TPC love it so much.
    R
    RetrogamerMax
Well, Mewtwo was suppose to have been originally intended for 64 but cut due to time constraints. I would say Mewtwo or Charizard should have been in the first Smash instead of Jigglypuff, but she probably got in over them first because she was the 2nd most popular Pokemon in Japan at the time and she would be easier and faster to make due to being a very similar shape to Kirby. But it is crazy though that Charizard wasn't considered for 64 or Melee. Maybe Sakurai thought Charizard or the Pokemon Trainer wasn't one of his top priorities to add at the time. Maybe Charizard wasn't considered during 64 and Melee because he wasn't anywhere near the Melee poll: https://smashboards.com/threads/i-think-this-might-be-interesting-to-look-at-melee-1999-poll.81891/
If I could add two bosses to Ultimate, it’d definitely be Ho-Oh and Grima. I know the former sounds weird since it’s not really a villain, but Rathalos isn’t necessarily a villain either.
Who wants to bet that there are people at Nintendo who hate what their own company has been doing as of late, but can't speak out or else they'd look bad?
I don't usually dive too deep into subjects like these, but I will say this:

Neither side is really in the right in this whole #SaveMelee situation. All this DMCA-ing isn't exactly a good look for Nintendo, but I feel like this wouldn't have escalated like it has if Big House didn't refuse Nintendo's initial warning.
    Champion of Hyrule
    Champion of Hyrule
Nintendo used to be in the legal right during the Big House situation, but shutting down a tournament because they criticized a decision Nintendo made takes this to a whole other level, one where Nintendo isnt even in the legal right anymore.

Maybe someone could make a case Nintendo did nothing wrong shutting down Melee, but there’s no way anyone could make an argument that Nintendo isn’t making some awful decisions here

Edit: They’re just cancelling the livestream, my bad. It’s still a scummy decision though

Am I mistaken in this, or is Nintendo just not streaming the tournament? Cause I get it, but that's a big difference if so...

Scizor would have been a better Gen 2 rep than Pichu in my opinion. I still wish we had a Gen 3 rep in Smash as it is my favorite generation. Personally, I would choose Deoxys to be the Gen 3 rep even though it's probably far too late for this to ever happen.
Here are some specials I came up with for some of the Poke Ball summons:

    Meowth
    B : Pay Day
; Meowth flings a flurry of coins as long as B is held; the attack gets weaker over time
B + Forwards : Thief; Meowth pounces the opponent; if they have an item or shoot a physical projectile, Meowth steals it
B + Up : Blast Off!; Meowth is launched high from a small explosion
B + Down : Fake Out; Meowth feigns a defenseless look, then slaps the opponent twice when hit
Final Smash: Rocket Balloon; Jessie and James appear and catch opponents with a huge net, only for their hot air balloon to pop and fly offscreen as Meowth falls off

    Scizor
    B : Bullet Punch
; Scizor rapidly punches the opponent when B is held, finishing with a powerful punch when B is let go of; the attack gets weaker over time
B + Forwards : X-Scissor; Scizor flashes forward and slashes the shape of a horizontal X, which can hit up to four opponents at once
B + Up : Aerial Ace; with help from the wind, Scizor slashes with both pincers and is launched high upward
B + Down : Swords Dance; Scizor summons two clanging swords behind itself, then slashes with both pincers
Final Smash: Mega X-Scissor; Scizor Mega Evolves into Mega Scizor, slashing furiously and finishing with an X-Scissor that covers nearly the entire screen

    Mimikyu
    B : Dazzling Gleam
; after holding B, Mimikyu emits a shining light that covers a large area
B + Forwards : Play Rough; Mimikyu tackles the opponent in a cartoonish cloud as it hits them repeatedly
B + Up : Fling; Mimikyu propels itself straight upward using one of its arms; this can either Meteor Smash opponents or force Mimikyu to drop an item it's holding, both of which propel it slightly higher
B + Down : Astonish; after holding B for 1.5 seconds, Mimikyu astonishes opponents directly in front of it, briefly stunning them
Final Smash: Let's Snuggle Forever; Mimikyu extends its arm to grab opponents; the opponents are then taken into a cutscene where Mimikyu..."snuggles" with them inside its cloth, instantly KO-ing any over 100%
Imagine for a second if Papu Papu and Koala Kong were bosses in Warped; the former could be dressed as a pirate and being fought on a pirate ship, while the latter could be dressed as a Kung-fu student and being fought in a Chinese temple on mine carts.
Know what I think would've been a better art-related RPG for the Wii U then Paper Mario: Color Splash? A game where you draw pictures and sometimes color them on the GamePad to perform attacks.
Just a thought; I figured if Nintendo were gonna tease a Smash reveal at TGA, they would’ve done so when the nominees were announced.

No particular reason for this thought, it just sorta crossed my head.
Wow, SmashBoards literally crashed for quite a while.

You might want to spoiler tag that
If I at least ran Nintendo of America (which I REALLY wish I did), I’d at least give Big House some warnings before trying to C&D them for not sticking to just Ultimate.

Pokelego999 Pokelego999 I don't think people are mad on the basis that this might be a legal injustice, but more that it is an authoritarian flex by a corporation that was fine extracting free profits from this setup until just recently.

Keep in mind that just because Nintendo gave them a warning, dosent mean they’re in the right.

And just because Nintendo said “We appreciate fan projects” in an interview dosent mean they necessarily do. Actions speak louder than words, and Nintendo’s actions are actively stopping people slightly improving games Nintendo dosent sell and barely agnowledges anymore. There’s nothing wrong with being critical of a company you like.

Maybe if Nintendo could be bothered to port Melee no differently from Street Fighter 2, then this would probably be less of an issue but they won't because despite Nintendo loving to milk nostalgia pandering, they refuse to let people enjoy games of the past.
Believe or not, I can actually see Kiryu in Smash...as an Assist Trophy.
