  • I'm looking through the Dove Foundation's (that little stamp on all the cheap Dreamworks rip-offs' DVD boxes) list of movie reviews, and some of their reviews are very questionable. A lot of the reviews have homophobic undertones (or even overtones, such as in their "The Free Speech Apocalypse" review), some age ratings are absurd ("Christian Mingle: The Movie" is rated for all ages, while Inside Out, Despicable Me and The Lorax are classed as 12+), they openly admit to not watching some of the movies they rate (as shown in their Sausage Party review), and they list every instance of kissing or hugging (even familial) as "sexual content".
I've just been laughing non-stop for like 5 minutes over a comment on the Penguinz0 "that's what I've been waiting for" video saying "Gun owners when someone breaks into their house". I haven't laughed this hard since I was 14 or so watching Garfielf for the first time.
A lot of the criticisms Disney movies get are from people who haven't watched a Disney movie since they were twelve. Sure, some are valid (racial insensitivity, the awkward implications of "Kiss the Girl", e.t.c.) - but I don't think Disney movies have ever tried to tell kids "if you believe hard enough it'll certainly happen!", no matter how much some songs may imply that OOC.
The main reason Piranha Plant failed as a joke character (at least in the long run) is because most of the characters in Smash already come from cute or comedic franchises.

66% of these characters would be called a "joke character" in any other fighting game.

Are you sure it's 66%? Because I only counted Link, Samus, and Fox as fighters that wouldn't be the "joke" character. That's 25% of 12, leaving the other 75% to be joke characters.

I also considered Captain Falcon as a "non-joke".

Piranha Plant is amazing mate. I just love his oddballness.
Almost everything about this image, which mind you, is a real cartoon Shaquille O'Neal signed on to make, reads like a meme.

    -Plagiarized graphics from Pixar's Cars
    -Photo-realistic mouths
-Shaq is there for no reason
    -Sexy car
In a way, it's a miracle Sonic 06 turned out so abhorrent. Say what you will about Boost-era stories and tone, but anything's better than a Sonic game with a strange faux-fantasy plot and dull, generic levels. A lot of people complain about the psychedelic candy lands in Colours and Lost World, but that is much more authentic Sonic than any of the glorified tech demos in 06.

I don't have much to say on what direction the gameplay modern Sonic games should go, and what I'm going to say will be a hot take, but I have to say the Sonic comics' stories and art direction are far superior than their game universe counterpart. It may be asking for a lot when it comes to Sega, but it would be really beneficial for them if they got the writer and artist/s that made the comics good over the years on board with their games, as well as some good animators (in comparison to the comics, Sonic characters in games look watered down in terms of expressing a lot of emotion) in order to attempt to translate the aesthetic and art-style of the Sonic comics (IDW's run specifically due to it being canon to the games' universe apparently) for future modern Sonic games. Whisper and Tangle are in a Sonic game so maybe we'll get more of an IDW Sonic comic influence to games in the future?

Hot Take #2: let Tee Lopes be in charge of all music for Sonic games, or at least mimic his style of music. Crush 40, while had a good run, is WAY overhyped and their era overstayed it's welcome imo. Also whoever did the fist bump theme in Sonic Forces can kick rocks somewhere else. Maybe it's just me, but the theme was too cringey.

Those are completely underrated takes to what we're talking about.
But while I'm here, I'll say this: that last one is a bad take. I love Tee Lopes as much as the next guy, but the Sonic series has so many great musicians that have varying styles.
Also, Crush 40 pretty much took a 12-year hiatus from the series until TSR rolled around, unless you count the City Escape remix and some of their work outside the games. They're great at what they do and modern Sonic wouldn't be the same without them.

Fair enough. I'm just personally over the cheesy rock music. Not the instrumentals but the vocalists.
There's a FP2 theory that's been on my mind for a while now. I call it "Target Demographic Theory", or the "Kids Theory" for short.

-Notice how FP1 is marketed. It's suave, sassy, and dark. More appealing to an older audience.

-FP2 has a very lively and fun gold palette to it, as well as a giant, not-so-subtle Smash symbol in the background, something that'd make kids more likely to beg their parents to buy.

-FP1's lineup consists of 4 adult/teen-oriented characters, and a family friendly character who's been MIA since 2008 and hasn't been relevant since 2000.

-Now consider FP2's lineup. Min Min, a character from a really recent game with bouncing and lively characters, and Steve, a character who, although popular with all demographics, is most popular among kids.

If anyone has more things to pile on to the theory, tell me.

Hold up. Dragon Quest is considered family friendly in Japan.

That is a good point, but even then the general concept would be considered easier to market to older gamers.

This would mean good news for my two most wanteds:

    -Geno's literally a toy puppet.
-Arizona from Them's Fightin' Herds is a cute cartoony cow.
The words "great" and "totally" are used sarcastically so much that you may as well make that their main dictionary definition.
My main problem with Geno is that he could push Waluigi out. It's admittedly a bit of an irrational fear given we got both Roy and Corrin in 3DS/Wii U (meaning multiple DLC for the same series isn't off the table) and both Steve and Banjo got in SSBU. (proving fan rivalries mean nothing)

When It comes to Mario characters in general, I just hope that Nintendo decides to make Pauline a mainstay in spin-offs.

She was the first female character in the Mario series, yet It was just recently when she started being playable in a few.

I can only Hope that after the success of Odyssey she finally gets a lot of presence.

Since we have four more characters, I'll say it's improbable but not impossible. If the CSS theory is to be believed, then yeah, I think they can stand alongside each other as DLC characters.

Waluigi will only get the time of day when a developer outside of Camelot has enough guts to put him in a mainline Mario title. Even if it has to be a mobile phone one like Run.

But yeah, I expect one Mario character at most for this batch.
Now I can see this in HQ... it looks like 2000s cel-shaded game graphics. Something out of Cel Damage or Wind Waker.

I think it looks alright. Would've rather gone for something more similar to the original show, but I can work with this. The animation itself looks good and on par with the show.
My one hope is that they don't have a flashback scene where it shows Tom and Jerry as babies for monetary gain on plushies and other kiddy merchandise. I don't want it to happen, but for some reason I just know it will.

Looks good, but I probably won't watch it
I don't know how you can look at these two characters and think one can be the other's echo fighter.

    Semi-clone? absolutely. Echo? no.

E3 can't come any sooner, so that this bloody debate can be put to rest. I won't bother to argue, causality will manage to negotiate far better than I do, as usual. 😑

They'd most likely be a Villager/Isabelle situation or (given their differing heights) a Mario/Luigi situation. In the latter case, it would make zero sense for them to be the same fighter, as no other fighter/echo pair has differing hurtboxes between them.

Though, I'd forgotten why the former pair aren't echoes of each other.
It really annoys me how a very small amount of the Mario Maker costumes just have a random appearance listed instead of their debut. You know what? I'm gonna fix the inaccurate ones

    Mario: Donkey Kong
    Luigi: Mario Bros.
    Trampoline: Donkey Kong Jr.
    Mario (Silver): Super Mario 64
Mario (Gold): New Super Mario Bros. 2
Shy Guy: Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic (same for Birdo)
Wario: Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins
    Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong Country
    Mr. Game & Watch: Ball
    Arwing: Starwing
    Toadette: Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Shaun the Sheep: A Close Shave
    Undodog: Mario Paint
I love the concept of Bowsette - not because I actually like it, but rather because it's rather poorly thought out and as such super easy to subvert and turn into the most off-putting, unsexual thing ever.

What happens if you wear multiple Super Crowns? Would forcing someone to wear a Super Crown against their will count as sexual assault? If a non-sapient being put on a Super Crown would they just end up being an animal in a human body, or even left in perpetual torment over their newfound sapience like that one Animorphs book with the ant? Are there Super Crown equivalents for less visually appealing characters like Wario or Madame Brood? What if an ugly Mario species like the Lunge Fish were to wear it? What if Peach herself wore it? Could overuse of the Super Crown lead to nigh-incurable body dysmorphia?
America gets this masterpiece of a Switch skin:

We in the UK have to settle for this bootleg looking garbage:

Yes, that atrocity is officially licensed merchandise.
Idea: instead of turning the abstract geometric male characters into cute girls, turn the cute girls into abstract geometric male characters.
If I was asked to do the fighters' passes and had insight into what they'd be up to Steve beforehand here's who I'd choose:

    Bonus:
    Muddy Mole

    FP1:
    Crash Bandicoot
    Banjo-Kazooie
    Hero
    Terry
    Doomguy

    FP2:
    Waluigi
    Steve
    PaRappa the Rapper
Dr. Eggman/Tails/Knuckles (3 characters and stages for the price of 1, if you think that's cheating choose whichever one you like best)

"Bonus : Muddy Mole". That's a very you move, haha.
I wouldn't mind the FP2 looking like this at all, CJ would break the internet even further for a while, i'm sure.

"Green Hill is looking more like Sand Hill right now"

I get this is a reference to a real Sonic zone, but I think "Green Hill is looking more like Beige Hill right now" would work better.

I don't think it was a reference, considering the writers have never played the Adventure games. Likely just a pun they came up with on the spot.
