    If you think about it, 2016 is one of the worst years in Nintendo history. The Wii U, the worst selling Nintendo console was at its lowest point and only a couple of Wii U games came out this year like Color Splash and Star Fox Zero and they were both hated. And many Smash 4 players hated Corrin and Bayonetta, also most Nintendo games that released this year are hated except Paper Jam and Triforce Heroes. Good thing 2017 is one of the best years in Nintendo history though. Odyssey and BOTW were Smash hits, ARMS was born and Splatoon 2 paved the way for a bright future for the Splatoon series.

    When do you think Smash 6 will release? My guess is 4 to 4½ years from now because by then the next console should be out and every new console means one new Smash game.

    I wonder if Nintendo even has plans for a 'new gen' system at this point. The Switch itself is a great concept. All they really need to do is make 'Switch 2.0' to give a hardware update to bring it up to snuff and enable more for developers to work with essentially.

    That one scene in Byleth's trailer showed him and 3 other characters on Ganon's stage. Could 4 Player Boss Battle mode be coming later?

    Would you accept Geno if he could transform into a cannon and freely aim and fire? We don't have a character who does that. You would use the control stick to aim in any direction and press A or B to Fire. This could work as his up special and when it's used in the air, the shots recoi him into the air.

    What if the Fire Emblem 17 protagonist is in Vol. 2? Fire Emblem 17 hasn't been announced yet but it could get announced soon and said character could get the Roy treatment.

    Technically if counting Heroes, Three Houses would be the 17th game.
    If not counting Heroes, then I would love to see the reactions to this. Bonus points if the game they’re from is revealed after the trailer and we don’t know who it is for a few minutes.

    Byleth brought a giant bottle of salt to the Smash community that it couldn't handle. If we get another Fire Emblem newcomer I'm afraid the negative reaction from the Smash community will be levels beyond our imagination.

    Unless they somehow had time to prepare a FE remake during this bad year, the chances of this are frankly low. The quota has been filled from past game's "precedent", so it's free reign from here.

    But as usual, no one will listen to my more reasonable assumptions, so don't act surprised if nothing happens.

    Mining using Steve isn't that fun. It's funny that Sakurai reworked every single stage just for one character's ability and the ability isn't even that fun to use. Don't get me wrong Steve's other abilities are fun to use but in Smash 6 his material gauge could refill automatically without having to mine.

    Neither is charging up Cloud’s limit break or refilling Inkling’s paint. That doesn’t mean they should be completely reworked in a way that would make them not only broken but also completely inaccurate to their source material. This makes no sense, just because one small aspect of a character isn’t technically that fun dosent mean they should be changed so drastically

    Try a CPU team battle with Steve, Alex and the pig VS. Zombie, Enderman and Creeper. It's good Minecraft characters against bad ones.

    If you don't like that the Bomberman costume can't use bombs, try making a Mii Gunner using the Bomberman mask and the Ray Mik II costume. It's blue and white like the Bomberman costume is and you can give it the Grenade Launch and Bomb Drop specials.

    Picture this: We get a Nintendo Direct at the end of October (a regular one, not a Partner Showcase) and at the end of the direct the Nintendo employee on camera thanks us for watching and then says "actually, there is one more thing we have to show you. Please take a look." Then Impa's Smash trailer is shown. After the trailer ends the screen says Impa will release on November 16th this year, just a few days before Age of Calamity releases since she would be an ad for the game.

    The only Zelda character who isn't in yet that's more important than Impa is Pig Ganon and technically he's already in the roster as his human form. But Impa definitely is the most iconic/important non Triforce welder in the series.

    Xenoblade could become the next Fire Emblem. They both have multiple main protagonists and Rex just could be in Vol. 2. Xenoblade could have 8 reps by the time the tenth Smash game releases.

    I wish. A roster with Shulk, Elma, Rex & Pyra, KOS-MOS, Fiora, and Metal Face would be sick. I know KOS-MOS isn't a Xenoblade character, but she is a Xenoverse character though.

    To many, Byleth was the least exciting Vol. 1 character but from a business standpoint it makes sense to save the least exciting Fighter's Pass character for last because if the first 4 characters were unexciting characters and the last character was an exciting character then not many people would want to buy the Fighter's Pass.

    I suppose you're right. Since talks of Steve being in Smash was negotiated as far back as 2015, I wouldn't be surprised if he was chosen because he did well on the Smash Ballot. Sakurai said Castlevania did well on the Smash Ballot yet Simon nor Alucard had any real presence in online polls. This shows that you can't underestimate the casual fanbase as they're huge in numbers even if they're not as vocal.

    Alm and Celica should have been alts for Marth and Robin. Celica doesn't use tomes but in Smash she could have invisible tomes so it will look like she's not using tomes. The Lightning Sword from Echoes would also function just like the Levin Sword.

    Is it true that different Square Enix employees own the rights to different SE characters? If so then Cloud will probably get cut in Smash 6. Hero might stay though since SE seems to be OK with having DQ spirits and music in Smash.

    In the next Smash, Duck Hunt should be just the dog and the NES Zapper since we have a new hairy animal/bird duo now which is Banjo & Kazooie. The dog and the duck being friends doesn't make sense anyway and the dog could have new attacks that he can do without the duck.

    I've never understood why everyone thinks that the dog shouldn't team with the ducks.
    The dog only ever interacts with the ducks to retrieve their bodies after being shot, showing hardly any malice towards the ducks as admiration and excitement for their owner. Their owner and the hunter is the one with the vendetta, who's the same guy trying to gun them down in their Smash attacks.
    It all comes together nicely.

    I was one of those weird people who thought trophies lead to playable fighters in Melee. Duck and dog go together naturally.

    I was one of those weird people that thought if you unlocked everything in Melee, you would unlock a super secret hidden character. Reason I thought this as a kid is because in the Melee instruction booklet in the section explaining the method of unlocking characters, there was a silhouette in the Challenger Approaching picture in that booklet that wasn't in the game.

    Confirm or deny: 2012 is one of the worst years in Nintendo history. Many games that are hated came out this year like Mario Party 9, Sticker Star, Epic Mickey 2 and Fire Emblem Awakening and the Wii U began with a horrible marketing campaign that never got better.

    I wouldn't count FE Awakening as a really hated game, it just had a vocal minority of FE veterans who didn't like its shift towards a more casual player base. Overall its actually one of the most popular FE games to date.

    Fire Emblem Awakening is considered to be one of the best FEs. 2012 overall was quite good aside from a few bad ones here and there. All years have em.

    Being the director of Smash is a very difficult job and if Sakurai doesn't want to direct Smash 6 then someone else will need to. It's hard but somebody's got to do it. Just like how the US needs a president. Being the president is a hard job but somebody's got to do it.

    We're getting Steve 3½ months after Min Min. We got Hero 3½ months after Joker and got Banjo just one month after Hero. Could Challenger Pack 8 be releasing just one month after Steve? Also just because CP8 hasn't been announced by now doesn't mean it's not close to being ready to release.

    Here's a theory: The reason Nintendo is announcing their games and game DLC right before they release is because since people are staying inside all the time and being online, they won't need to be informed several months ahead of time about the upcoming games and DLC. If it wasn't for the virus, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity probably would have been revealed in the March 2020 direct.

    Fighter's Pass 2 might sell so damn well that Nintendo will want Sakurai and co to make Fighter's Pass 3. As cool as that would be, I'm more concerned about Sakurai's health and well being. So they should end the DLC and Ultimate's roster on Fighter's Pass 2.

    Nintendo didn't say no other fighters will be revealed tomorrow. What if all 5 get announced tomorrow and Sakurai has set in stone release dates for each one of them?

    Look at it this way: you get more newcomers as a trade-off, and the staff won't have so little time for new stages on base game.

    I just hope that whoever directs the next game won't have gameplay updates that are too drastic.

    Everything Smash 6 needs:
    • An Adventure Mode like WoL but with more variety and a FEW side scrolling levels.
    • A mode like Smash Run.
    • Board the Platforms and Target Blast should return.
    • At least 20 newcomers including DLCs.
    • At least 50 brand new stages. There can be 50 returning stages too.
    • Plenty of DLC.

    Did I miss anything?

    And people say Nintendo has nothing to show this year. Nintendo is changing things up now. Shadowdropping trailers for 1st party games that would be shown in regular Nintendo directs. They have a great 1st party lineup for 2020 so far. We got:

    • Animal Crossing: New Horizon.
    • Clubhouse Games.
    • Xenoblade 1 DE.
    • Paper Mario: The Origami King.
    • Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
    • Mario 3D All Stars.
    • Kirby Fighters 2.
    • Hyrule Warriors 2.

    There may even be a couple more.

    I agree that people are a bit too upset over everything, but your logic here is pretty flawed:
    Firstly, more people were upset in the start of the year where the only games Nintendo had were Xenoblade, Animal Crossing and Paper Mario. Nobody knew about those other games. A lot of games were probably delayed behind closed doors so it’s not exactly reasonable to be upset, but it was reasonable to be upset by the lack of communication.

    And don’t forget there was literally a period where we weren’t waiting for any Nintendo games whatsoever. None were announced and coming out, although Pikmin 3 broke this drought

    And then look at the games, three are ports or collections, and basically every game on that list except maybe Paper Mario has very similar gameplay to a game that already exists. (There’s also jumprope challenge but that doesn’t count) We basically got practically no new gameplay experiences from Nintendo this year. And Nintendo is known for constantly giving us new gameplay experiences.

    So I don’t think the reactions were all reasonable, but it for sure was not a great year for Nintendo

    The reason Banjo was ready to release so soon after Hero could be because he was easier to make than Hero was. After all Banjo doesn't really have a gimmick like Joker and Hero do. If a DLC character takes a long time to release then that could be because they have a gimmick. FP7 could have a gimmick.

    It’s the “Corona Slow Down” gimmick. It causes all development to slow down a crawl. It’s pretty OP; especially when people including the Director states that “everything is on schedule”. We need to nerf this gimmick or it might cause Vol 2 to lag so bad that it will finish in 2022.
