  • I was thinking of starting a general support thread for serpentine fighters. Turns out there aren't many serpentine video game characters, like in general, let alone ones people would actually care about.

…Is Snivy a joke to you? Like, it evolves into a serpentine Pokémon! Snivy’s category is literally called “the Grass Snake Pokémon”.
I had this ridiculous dream where a reconstructed, multicoloured, dinosaur with leaves for scales-er, feathers- and visible bones came to one of my old schools, and even though I knew it was made of leaves and couldn't harm me, I was still terrified out of my mind.

Also half way through the dream I sung Disney Renaissance karaoke for no reason.
    Memes this year have included:

    Banjo-Kazooie (90s)
    Fanboy & Chum Chum (2010s)
    Clone High (2000s)

Now we just need a meme of something from the 80s, preferably a video game, and the holy quartet of decades will be complete.
I can't stop laughing over GoAnimate Arthur's ear.

Grounded videos are some of the best "so bad it's good" stuff online. Honestly I can't help but respect them, they are creatively absurd and I get the feeling a lot of the kids who make this stuff will go on to be very successful.
I remember one time I praised Nick Robinson's videos on SmashBoards, and someone told me he was a "serial rapist".

Turns out all he did was flirt with people 3 years ago, which he apologised for.

so being flirty makes you a ''serial rapist''? uhmmm ok.... -_- then i know alot of people who are a ''serial rapist''
i swear the low IQ was clearly showing with this one...

It’s best to tune that stuff out and not let it affect you. Some people are quick to accuse others (and for good reason) but some often take it to extremes. I feel that, while their original intentions are understandable, the execution is completely wrong. I’m not a fan of kneejerk reactions to social issues without proper investigation and ensuring everyone has a voice in the issue. That’s of course when it’s completely obvious the accused is 100% in the wrong and did stupid/bad/horrible/illegal stuff to get them cancelled.

If we are remembering what crazy people have said here...

I remember when someone called me a “race traitor” for marrying outside of my race. Fun times.
Remember the time someone hacked into Sony Music's Twitter to post "britney spears is dead by accident" and people somehow genuinely believed it?
I don't get the logic behind dismissing a group as a "vocal minority" - surely if said minority is VOCAL they're the more devoted crowd, and will be more pleased about their requests being met? Quality over quantity, y'know?

Correct, but what do businesses love above all else, I'll give you a hint, it's not happy customers despite how much they may say it in their slogans.

The fact is, yeah, Nintendo makes a ton of money, like, a ton..... but why stop there? Why not make... more? Why not make more money if you're given the choice to? We sit here and think "Well, to make the fans happy of course", when the CEOs sit there and think "To line our pockets and make them fatter". Companies are not your friend, and while they may make things that you enjoy, never forget they don't see you as anything more than the money that you hand them.

So, let's say that this pass, despite only having one known character right now, let's say Nintendo has two choices, but they could only pick one, just go with me here for this thought experiment, I don't actually believe this is happening internally.

Let's say that whoever deciding the roster decided on another Capcom rep, and it came down between Amaterasu... or Dante. On one hand, Amaterasu is a character from a very loved game, albeit, still somewhat niche, but she has a small, but I'd argue somewhat vocal fanbase... On the other hand, you have Dante, the character that pretty much is the most requested character in Japan. If you were a business, would you pick the underdog, or the big gun? One will make some fans happy, the other will make a lot of people happy and make a ton of money.

Sure, sometimes, we get the Banjo scenarios where the underdog wins in the end, but that's very rare. Look at Geno currently, thus far, Square has opted for pushing their much bigger, more iconic IPs than the little puppet, despite 15~ years of fan outcry.

I am not speaking from how Nintendo would act, I'm speaking from how they SHOULD act.

Of course corporations aren't friends or well-meaning (with a few rare exceptions such as Ben & Jerry's), that goes without saying, but in an ideal world where they did have our best interests in mind they should listen to the "vocal minority".

I mean, I don't think anyone would disagree with you, but we don't live in that ideal world. Corporations like Nintendo are driven via capitalism, which is a constant need for more and more growth and profit.
It'll always be funny to me that Betty Boop is promoted nowadays as a "flirtatious sex icon" despite the fact the original Betty Boop cartoons were anything but sexual.
Say what you will about modern memes, at least they have actual jokes and aren't just a full SpongeBob episode sped up to half its length or random My Little Pony songs put in G-major.
Here's a straight out of the oven scorching hot Sonic take

Greg Martin is one of the best official artists in the series history and has the best character design for the blue blur.

The only thing I don't like about his art is his frequent tracing of his existing Sonic face, but even then: it just worked.

R.I.P. Greg Martin - a box art hero.
Getting upset over developer showcases is 100% valid. They tend to have absolutely rubbish lineups sans the occasional interesting game.

Yeah, but only after seeing the titles. Getting upset over seeing “Partner showcase announced!” is stupid.

Also, seeing as how they usually announce pretty big and important titles like Monster Hunter, I don’t really mind a few games that look bad. Plus those games would’ve been in a nintendo direct anyways.

I still think getting really upset doesn’t make much sense seeing as how they’re supposed to be short and frequent. You’re not really supposed to remember each one the hype surrounding it like people remember Nintendo directs
    Rant time:

Having autism kinda sucks, at least it does at this stage of our culture. I have been to roughly 6 or 7 special needs schools across my entire life, and only one, my final one before turning 18, was at all fit to educate me, but at that point I was broken beyond repair from previous schools, (including one that practised solitary confinement) and as such left unable to learn. They sunk millions of government dollars down the drain solely for me to sit in a room alone and read Mario Wiki articles in boredom, something I can do at home without obnoxious iDubbbz-watching teenagerchildren shouting homophobic slurs at me for no reason every 5 seconds.

Life for me as a Autistic person has been rough too. When they found out I was Autistic, the school district was afraid of allowing me into school because of potentially being bullied. My mother a very educated person who once got on the Dean's List in college home school me instead.

In my pre-teen years, I went to therapy because of the speech impediment I use to have. Now I can speak perfectly, but before going to therapy I couldn't pronounce a lot of stuff right.

I've gotten my GED and now I have a pretty good job that pays well.

I only have one friend in person and I have been harassed and discriminated by people at work and the church I use to go to.

Sometimes life is really hard for me.

This is the first time I've ever talked about my own experiences online, since I'm EXTREMELY self conscious about it, and barely anyone who knows me, knows about it except my parents and some of my close friends who were also in the system with me.

Grades 1-3 were the hardest for me personally. I was sent to a separate school in a faraway town for some reason, and I was the outcast of my class. Cue the bullying and BS, as well as teachers punishing me by not letting me participate in class for not liking my ****ing lunch. I'm dead serious. I couldn't even see the board because there was a divider blocking me from the class. Looking back as an adult, I'd probably sue the school if I found out my kid was being treated like that by teachers.

Thankfully I went back to my home town 4th grade onwards, where everything slowly went up from there. My town was really good with helping Sp. Ed students as much as they can. From there, my main goals were fitting in with everyone else, and later on breaking out of the Sp. Ed system. I always wanted to fit in with the "cool kids" back in 4th grade, and thankfully I succeeded for the most part. I'm still in contact with some of my friends from my graduating class. Making friends was much easier back at home, and I felt like I was improving as a person (despite my many social issues I had as a kid).

While family related issues have affected me since 5th grade, and temporarily made some of my issues worse, I eventually reached the point in high school where I was able to be in typical classes (along with a few other students). That was the time period where I truly felt normal, and I've had no issues since. I've had some other experiences unrelated to school that I might rant about if the topic comes up again. (I got bitten in the arm once. That was fun.)
The "Bottom Gear" meme feels like it came straight out the edgy "rebel age" of memes (2014 to 2016 about) - and it feels like, not a breath of fresh air so to speak, but like heavily polluted air after a session of scuba diving. Very specific, I know.
People who say "uwu so babey" and stuff like that creep me out, but like - not because I interpret it as sexual, but rather the exact opposite - why would you speak like that in a NON-sexual manner?
When they brought "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" to the UK, they changed the title to "Are You Smarter Than A 10 Year Old" since we don't use the grade system, and our equivalent (the year system) is nowhere near as iconic. For whatever reason, they added an extra syllable to the theme song despite "5th grader" and "10 year old" having the same amount of syllables, so they're singing "Are you smarter than a 10 year ol-olddd?" for no reason

Tried finding a full episode but couldn’t. Here’s an advertisement of the Japanese version

“QUIZ! Anata wa shougakkou gonensei yori kashikoi no?” (QUIZ! Are you more clever than an elementary school 5th grader?). The contestants are typically famous people, singers, athletes, actors, and other celebrities.

I think the video I posted was a full episode. If you can't see it then it must be that the copyright holder is trying to make regional versions only watchable in their respective region since that video you posted isn't available here in the UK
