  • I am obsessed with Byleth's Fair & Bair. They're so hard to use, but rewarding as hell when you know how to use them. They kill ridiculous early at the edge. I've killed Ike and Wario at 60-70, consistently.
Deep down, there was a part of me that was scared of being disappointed in Byleth. Those 12 days were really long, and I never (literally, ever) looked forward to any DLC character. Byleth was a first. I was heavily concerned about how they were going to play out, and whether or not I was really going to like them.

Really glad it didn't happen. I am pretty content.
Please don't turn the Byleth meta into ****ing Side B. It's Smash 4 Corrin all over again, and then people wondered why they didn't know how to do anything else. Just shield the stupid thing and get a super free punish.
I've played Byleth against Wario and Yoshi for hours, and I can't say I've struggled nearly as much as it's implied. And yes, this is also in the disadvantage state. Maybe I just got better at footsies to somewhat mitigate it.

The Nair is also far better than people thought.
What the **** is a shoto.

Is this supposed to be common sense? I'm not seeing it. I've heard that word like 10 times this past week.

It’s common sense for those involved in the traditional fighting game community with emphasis on Street Fighter. Seeing as how Street Fighter and Ryu laid down the foundations of said community with Ryu becoming a template for many other fighters both in Street Fighter and other series. Shotos have become a term to denote a fighting style that is similar to Ryu. This includes Ken, Dan, Sakura, Akuma, Gouken, Evil Ryu, Violent Ken, Cyber-Akuma, Shin-Akuma, Kage, and so on. Even Terry, Kyo, Demitri, etc have been suggested to have Shoto-esque attributes to them. For those who unfamiliar with Street Fighter terms/fighting game terms, than the meaning is lost. Ryu and Ken’s attacks use the Shoto-style so, since these two were buffed in the recent patch, it means their Shoto-style was buffed as well. With buffs primarily focusing on their Shoto-specific attacks and combos.

Horrible example but it would be technically like playing SoulCalibur II Link but using Smash tech lingo Instead of SoulCalibur lingo to explain his attacks.
There was this guy in Quickplay and we played the ditto for like 20 matches....as much as I said I hated it. There was a strange rivalry, and it was so damn even. Probably the two only Byleth that weren't using damn "wifi" moves and actual fundamentals.
Salty as **** about my online performance and basically only playing the ditto for like 3 hours. My hands hurt.
But at the end of the day, it was fun, as much as I really hated losing to terrible people.

Pretty sure 90% of them will even forget they have Byleth, but I won't. This pain wasn't in vain.
Wonderwing is actually pretty damn broken if you know how to land it, consistently, at 50-70. I used to do it all the time Week 1, but I lost that power. I don't think many other Banjo players really exploit it well, either. If anything, most of them use it more than they should, like for recovering and even random punishes.

There's nothing more satisfying than killing at 40 with that thing. It's that silly, assuming you know how to exploit every opening.

    Inb4 they absolutely nerf it

The only reason it's not broken is because of shield and arguably Frame 18 startup. I don't think nerfing it is necessary, unless you can absolutely exploit everything, like catching airdodges, recoveries and landings. It's up to the player. Most Banjo players end up killing at over 100 because they tend to catching people from the other side of the stage.
Zelda's D-Tilt is like Corrin. Nobody uses it, but apparently everyone has a say on it.
What time does Byleth come out???
I don't think people understand how much I want Byleth right now.

There's people who like Byleth, who like them as a character,

    and then there's me.

You don't understand. I literally never cared about Byleth until the announcement. He just grew on me. Like, I even foddered both of them in Heroes...

I am a bad person, and a hypocrite.

Truth be told, Byleth was kinda meh for me I was strongly rooting for Edelgard, but once Byleth got confirmed and looked so awesome in the game, I have a newfound appreciation for her. :)

Does anyone know at what time the character releases? Yes, this is important.
I really have a ****ty karma when it comes to promoting my stuff. Some ****ty video of G&W doing a #9 got almost 2k upvotes and my compilation of actual badass Zelda plays no one is doing barely gets 6 and only 10 views in almost whole day.
I don't know why I always root for ESAM & Fatality. I never even played these characters. I absolutely want Fatality to win a major.

I've seen a few Fatality matches and he is just really good and has good enough strategy to beat even good high tier character players. And also he is just looks like a nice guy.

yeh he's really nice and educated. Part of the reasons why I enjoy his videos/streams. He doesn't get salty, and he also answers people in the chat nicely.
Thinking about it, "reverse 3-0" doesn't like like a 3-0 at all. It's a reverse 2-0. The 3-0 doesn't settle until it actually happens. What if you 3 stocked that person? That was nowhere close to the 3-0.
    MilkCalf
    MilkCalf
The logic there probably is that the 3-0 would have happened but you blocked or reversed it due to a shift in playstyle.
corrin is not low tier jesus ****ing christ

Who are so much better than Corrin that they outclass him? Top dogs like Lucina, Chrom & Roy? A well-developed Shulk? That's it. I don't think Ike is better, he's just easy to use at lower levels.

Corrin is probably the most flexible among swordsmen other than Lucina, and maybe Shulk. He has no one big weakness, and the ones that are mostly shared among every swordsmen (not having a Frame 5-6 Up B like Marth & Lucina). He has one of the better recoveries among them after the buff, 3-4 aerials that are safe on shield, passable combos and probably the best frametrap game. I would say he has the best juggling game, but it's probably not as good next to guys like Chrom & Roy who have amazing ground & air mobility.

This, alone, is not anything lower the medium of Mid tier. You're a sword character, you have more than one safe shield poke, good neutal (pokes & Pin). It's not like he even struggles killing. He's probably better than Lucina at that aspect, who's pretty much just Bair or an F-Smash read.

All sounds good on paper yet Corrin isn't getting any momentum while even Ike is performing better. Corrin's problem is speed, not that great air mobility and a lot of his/her combos got hit hard this game. You may try to make light of Lucina 'fair/bair' but there's a reason it works. It has good reach, good arcs and can be combo'd into on a lot of characters. She walls people out better, can cross up easier and gets kills pretty darn easily. Even Roy/Chrom can rack damage and get kills super easy while Corrin still struggles to get killing strokes. Pin is still good but not Smash 4 good and isn't quite as reliable (Believe the kick attack is also weaker this game).

If Corrin is as good as you say or think they are, they'd be used more and they'd get noticable results. I'm not saying Corrin is 'bad' but Corrin isn't exactly great or even 'good'. Corrin might be just bare bones middle of the line and has nothing really stellar going for them.

Honestly, I don't think you're right in the last part. A lot of people automatically assumed characters a lot worse for simply not playing the same, or for having a minor nerf. I feel it's no different for Corrin. People just automatically assumed they're a lot worse because of the recovery and the Pin kickback (which wasn't even that safe against high/Top tier or fast characters, in general). I think the drop down is a better mixup than always kicking away and giving away stage control.

If anything, I think Corrin better, here. Plays a lot more like an actual swordsman, and the whole meta doesn't rely on shieldrop Pin. If anything, the new dashing mechanics make it more optimal to whiff punish off of Pin, instead of having to rely on shield dropping. He's also not as "slow" as people keep saying. They're not using foxthrot nearly as much (a decent boost from 1.4ish > 1.8+). I've solo mained Corrin in Smash 4 since he came out, and while I don't main him in Ultimate, I definitely feel more sense of flexibility here. There's minor things that got tweaked, but then it also feels like other areas got subtle buffs like these (Uair seems to have a better hitbox, for example).

Again, I don't think people would realise this and just start using the character a lot. And this isn't just Corrin. ZSS "sucked" until Marss, and Rosalina was likely a lot worse until Dabuz. Wait until Cosmos actually starts using the character for real, and maybe that'll make people understand.
If you appreciate Byleth being in Smash, I need to talk to you.

    Very well...

I don't have many people to vent my frustration on. It's 8 days, and I can't wait that much to decide whether or not I'm using him. I rarely use characters halfway, which means I'm either all in or all out. If I actually do end up using him, there might be a chance he might become main material, and I don't want to accept that. :D ):

Watching Sakurai's gameplay and framedata isn't enough for me. I really need to try, to see for myself. Running speed and frame data isn't everything, and it won't trivialise the character for me. I have faith in their stronger aspects, and that they can be worked around.
It's absolutely offensive to get dash grabbed by Ike from across the stage.
It's funny how, basically the first DLC character I'm genuinely interested in apparently is getting negative reactions.

I really like Byleth's character model, expressions and moveset design. The only turn off is how slow they might end up being...
The first DLC character I'm genuinely interested at first impression, and Sakurai starts with "but they're slow- SLOWER THAN ROBIN". Huge turn-off, because I was liking the design and moveset.
