I agree. I'm not so sure that Smash 4 lends itself as well to the competitive scene, but it's certainly more balanced than Melee.
I believe that the biggest hurdle Smash 4 has to overcome is Brawl's infamy within the competitive scene.

The great thing about Smash 4 is that the roster is starting to reach Smash 64 levels of balance. No character seems completely trash and has at least something to offer.

The problem with Brawl (aside from the inherent slow/floaty gameplay and tripping) was that the competitive scene evolved too fast and stayed the same for several years.

I know it seems like a broad statement, but Brawl would've been way more popular if they'd banned MK and ICs years ago. Hell, I've seen characters like Link and Ganondorf win MK-banned tournies, so that says at least something. Either way, Smash 4 does have far better physics, so at least we have that to build upon.
"Trying to decide which characters you'll main in Smash before it even comes out" is the new definition of insanity. Calling it.
Currently stuck trying to decide who I'll play as first when SSB4 launches: Greninja, Robin, Pit, or Meta Knight...?

First take a while to get used to them, then pick.
