unfortunately i wont be there sorry. ill be in the area in time though
    PP,
How do u study matches? What do you do? I try to analyze spacings, combos, approaches/anti airs, how and why they got hit, failed/successful edgeguards, etc. What should I add? What should I get rid off? Also, how do you know when your study is improving your play? I haven't played in a couple of months, but I was kinda wondering how much does study affect skill.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
study greatly impacts skill. i will do a big explanation about this on my stream in time. until then, the simple form is look for when someone gets hit and figure out why it happens.

Aww yeah can't wait for that!
Ever been out to the Kitty Hawk/Route 12 area of NC? That stretch of land along the upper east coast of NC looks like it might be a pretty cool drive.

ahh can't say ive ever been there sorry
Hey, this summer I'm going to be trying to level up a lot, but I go to UNC Chapel Hill, and I was wondering if when I get back you'd be down to play a bit and help me out a bit. I'm hoping to have my melee fundamentals down by then. Also, it looks like we both study/studied psychology, so I guess we at least have something else in common haha. Where'd you go to school?
I know I sent you a message, but I'd just like a bit of advice:
How do you keep yourself focused in tournament play and refrain from letting nerves get to you?
Are we going to see you at any tournament before EVO? I would love to see your amazing Marth and Falco once more before the big day ^_^

    J.P
May I know why? Are you just not interested in attending tournaments or too bush to participate?
    Dr Peepee

depression as well as sinus infection thats been ongoing for a while

Man I seriously hope you get better! Never forget how amazing you are, not only as a Melee player, but as a person in general. Not sure if you are religious but I'll pray for you.
Hey PP! Two questions: what are the best ways to deal with double lasers from the edge in the Falco ditto, and, what do you think of FoD in the Falco/Marth matchup?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
be close enough to shine, jump over them or fall into the opponent from a platform. im not sure about fod tbh i hope to find out soon =)
Do you have any tips on how to practice not getting stuck in shine? (for Falco)
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
the big thing is jumping at the right time(probly later than what you do) and also doing it without hitting another input first
Actually, something else (sorry for asking so many questions). Since you analyze matches, do you write down everything on a document file. If so, can you send it to me? Thanks!
What is shadowboxing? I remember you speaking about it on stream once, but never fully explained it. Also, I really think your dash dance is the best out of all the Top players.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
basically its about DD'ing outside of a cpu's range and avoiding their attacks. its also about fighting no opponent and imagining them counterattacking you and changing your game accordingly. ill give more specifics in time
Recently I decided watching Tafo's Zero to Hero Series and I was wondering this: Marth vs Fox on FD. What would you normally try to do to gain space on stage to cut fox from moving around? What is your first thought when playing against Fox as marth (not the player, the character)?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
threaten with dtilt. he is more likely to pick a defensive option than get hit by it so marth's neutral is geared toward moving forward the way I use it.
    Siccamende
    Siccamende
So in that case, I'd down-tilt to see how he/she reacts to counter that option?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
i usually move forward with it and then move forward to see how they respond as if my next action was dtilt
How come you never post on the falco thread anymore?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
haven't seen anything i want to respond to. when i start doing big posts again i might post there
Do you ever regret making your name "Dr. Peepee"? I personally love it. Serious question, how old were you when you came up with it?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
sometimes i regret it, but mostly i like what ive been able to do for myself and how i am perceived despite having the name. i called myself dr peepee when i was....16 years old
Have you ever felt like giving up on Smash in your early career? What did you do to combat that?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
well that just depends on the issue. it was a bad time that didnt really have anything to do with smash. i took a bit of time off and my love for the game always returned quickly. if i needed it i tried playing some and that usually got me going too
I just got 5th at my first local, and I am struggling to find any real people to practice with. I am posting on threads that I am looking for a match on Netplay, but no one seems to respond. Any idea on how I can get more involved than just playing AI?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
have you tried anther's netplay ladder? you could also try local gaming clubs or you could found one using flyers etc to garner interest.
Hi PPMD!!! Really big fan of yours, congrats on your somewhat recent win on Apex 2015!!! I just wanted to ask you a quick question. Do you use the z button to grab, or L/R to grab? Or do you switch it up depending on the situation?

hey thanks! and I use Z pretty much always but L/R if I have to shield.

lol I meant L/R + A. But you already answered my question. Thanks so much! Wish you the best in everything that you do!
Are you playing Smash 4 competitively? I can't find anything besides the invitational suggesting you do, so I decided to ask you myself.
Do you play pm? If you play it,what controller configuration do you use? Do you turn tap jump on or off?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
i play a little pm. I leave tap jump on when i do play.

Damn dude, thanks for the response. Always interested in pro players' controller prefs. Good luck at EVO 2015! Back on top!

    thanks so much! =)
how do I figure out the punish game properly for each matchup? Im not sure what to do besides just randomly comboing the CPU in 20xx. I feel like theres a more precise/scientific way to really figure out whats optimal but no idea how to go about it. Im using Falco btw in case that helps.
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
(2/3) -Study the punishes by watching top players, and question each decision they make. Why did they make a certain decision, how the did opponent respond? If you encounter the same/similar scenarios, how were thing dealt compared to last time?
-While focusing on option coverage is a highly efficient way of developing your punish game (as well as practically every other aspect of Melee combat),
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
(3/4) you can get a lot of mileage from adapting to your opponent so that you punish according to the habits you observe and predict.
-Keep in mind the DI your opponent might be going for, and either account for that or abuse their DI decisions when you are deciding how followup your hits.
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
(4/4) -20XX CPUs have a high tendency to jump immediately out of hitstun. Knowing this, you can often practice ridding them of their air mobility by striking them as soon as they input the jump as opposed to waiting for them to choose a different defensive option. Just don't get to comfortable with these punishes, since real opponents will provide far more variety.

    Hope that helps!
What constitutes a good or bad laser as falco?
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
    -=Untamed-Beast=-
A few considerations: Did it hit? Did you get counterattacked? Did get a followup? Do you gain stage control and/or space; did they retreat? etc.
When it comes to dual maining, do you ever look back at choices that you could have made that might have changed a particular set (ex: Apex Grand Finals Set 1, Game 5) and what are some things that make you decide which character to use (other than the matchup)?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
    1. I look at what did happen and try to come up with good rules to use for each character. 2. i mostly use the rule that if my falco plays bad i use marth...or marth on fd in some matchups lol. im thinking of expanding the rule but unsure.
ever consider marth as a secondary because your marth right now is probably the best because ken and m2k marth are dated pewpewu and the moon are sort of up and coming
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
yeah hes definitely my secondary closer to co-main haha
Hey PP, do you think that it is a good thing to listen to music while playing, or do you find it distracting?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
i dont like it personally but if others like it then it can work
I've heard you've been into psychology and I was wondering if you know any good sports books that could help with my mental game, because it's been getting to me in matches and it hurts my performances. Thanks!

    Siccamende
I decided to read a sample of the inner game of tennis (iBooks) and it was really interesting, I'll be sure to pick it up and thanks for the recommendation!
I feel really overwhelmed thinking about learning how to DI every move in the game. I keep putting it off because of this and never learn it. Not even sure the trajectory of moves because whenever I play or watch games things are being DId but I dont know which way. If you had to relearn the game how would you go about doing this? long question if you dont want to respond no problem
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
ken has a di tutorial on youtube. but otherwise just use the rule "up for sideways, sideways for up" for survival, and then the rest is about lots of different moves and testing those moves.

When's the last time you watched your Smash Lab analysis on your set w/ Armada from Apex '13?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZpcYcI2_AE
I ask because I wonder how you compare your knowledge and experiences since then with what you were talking about at the time.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
im listening to some of it and the base stuff sounds pretty similar or correct but I can make more conclusions/explain better now probably.
What makes M2K's Marth so "outdated" and yours not? Can you elaborate on that? Also, can you give some general tips on how to analyze a video, something like looking out for specifics? Thanks!
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
he just hasn't done major upkeep on his neutral and sometimes his punish(especially on floaties) needs fine tuning.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
videos= look for why they got hit.

Cool. By the way how do you handle the Falco vs Falco matchup? It seems like I always play my worst in that matchup and I can't find info on it much. Thanks
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
have laser out first. if you dont then go high to set it up so you get it out first.
Love your Marth. Out of curiosity, why "Dr. Pee Pee"?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
thanks! and long story basically someone called me it once and it was really funny haha
How do you deal with Aggressive Falco Pressure? I have a friend who's playstyle is similar to Mango's, mine is more PP and Zhu. have been watching you vs Mango and I don't know how you deal with it at times
