Hey, yep! If you're interested, the region of Upstate NY / Rochester has its own smash discord:

If you attend any of the local colleges and universities, many of them have their own discords as well.
    Hey bro. Still Smash 4?
    Zatchiel
    Zatchiel
Was wondering if you'd be down to wifi sometime? For even a very little while? You've been on my list to play since I picked up Ike, but I didn't know how often you played online during the Brawl days. And I recently started Smash 4 again.

It'd be very interesting since I'm very confident now and you're one of my inspirations.

    san.
Sure, np, though gonna warn you I barely play wifi much, haha

Sweet. When might you be on next?
Hey man, I'm honestly not sure where to go. But who would I want to talk to about a potentially really hype Article about a really popular up and coming scene in the south/central NJ area. We are trying our best to collab all the other venues in the area and get things really popping. It would be awesome if you could point me in the right direction.
What character would you recommend picking up to help with Ike's bad match ups?
    san.
    san.
For Diddy, Mario, Fox, zoners, and Sheik kinda... Cloud is the easiest secondary for an Ike main. Corrin or Diddy/Mario/Fox/Sheik are also okay.
What control setup would you recommend for an Ike user?
    san.
    san.
C-stick set to attack for easy dtilts and nair(diagonal).
If you don't use the other shoulder button, set it to jump to help aid combos (double jump with L + flick C-stick at the same time)

    Okay I'll try that. Thanks
Do you have any tips that could help me as an Ike main?
    san.
    san.
Do you have any advice when it comes to labbing characters?
    san.
    san.
Have to know how to read and understand data: frame data, safety on shield, autocancels, etc. It helps tell you the best moves of a character and how best to use it just from the data.

Also, optimize your controls if you can. Easiest way to make you better at the game other than switching characters.

Hey san I have a question about a MU. You played Kalm right? What do you think of the Ike: Ganon MU? I know Ike wins for sure but by how much, I am not certain. Some of the other Ike mains say it's a complete hopeless battle for Ganon where Ike doesn't have to work at all but I don't really have that impression, so I wanted to make sure since you are the most qualified to make a judgement..
    san.
    san.
It's disadvantageous for Ganon, but not that bad. -1 or 4:6. Better player for that set usually wins.

    Ok thank you.
Hey San, I was wondering if we could play online sometime. Im an ike main from victoria BC, and have wanted to play you for some time now!

How have you been? No being a creep or anything lol
    san.

Nop lol. A lot of life stuff's been clearing up and the workload has been getting better, so I've been able to finally focus on practicing the game the last month or so. Hope you're doing well.

I am, I just need to get into a tourney. School's been hard with football track workouts and school work pressing in. But, I want to compete and play people around my skill and higher.
Yo San, its brightglow from the group chat ^_^ just made a smashboards account! Follow back for Marth and Ike content
You probably know about this already, but if you are looking for more wifi practice, https://www.smashladder.com/ is a great place. I see you looking for people to join your lobbies one in a while, and that site is good for ranked matches or friendlies.

thanks, I'm aware of it. I mostly just play random people on skype, which happens maybe once a week lol. I'm garbs on wifi
    san.
    san.
I've also been playing a bit recently to test my connection once my Wii U has been set to a static IP and set to DMZ on the mode/router.
This is a little random. But there's a Game & Watch main who feels that Game & Watch completely wrecks Ike. My own experience tells me that's false, and what I know about Ike tells me that's false. I know Game & Watch mains are a rare breed, but do you have any input on the matter?
    san.
    san.
G&W does have nair to jab and upB can be tricky, but both can be pretty telegraphed and played around. For instance, G&W has to get around the sword of aether or deal with quick draw. It'll probably be around average difficulty overall.

All of Ike's established combos work on G&W and he has to be worried about dying to uair at around 75or so.

G&W could be good vs him but my initial impression is +1 or 2
    Kofu
    Kofu
I was talking about Ike having NAir to jab but thanks for the input. Sword characters are usually a little hard for Game & Watch and it doesn't feel like G&W's favor to me.

As a note I think the guy lives in New York.
    san.
    san.
only G&W player I know of in NY is Pentasalia. Ike doesn't really want to nair too much since that gets within G&W's aerial range. Ike can combo from fair/bair into dash attack. At low %s, if he's lucky he can get a grab or dtilt.
Is d-throw/n-air/u-air -> footstool DI dependent at low percents? I'm having trouble getting it consistently.

Do you find yourself utilizing it much at all?
    san.
    san.
After the dthrow, there are only 3 positions: above you, slightly diagonal, and horizontal-diagonal. You only need to prepare for the third before hand (they usually DI the same way or barely vary it).
    san.
    san.
After the footstool, it's just practice. The character you footstooled can move left or right, but Ike has good air speed and can chase down practically any character.

Nair/uair to footstool needs the antithesis of spacing, so that's best after a reset.

I recommend practicing on CPUs then on players. If you're trying this online, that's why. It's much tougher online and my success ratio halves to 1/3.

Thank you very much. I'm gonna work on it asap.
Hey buddy! It's been awhile. :) just got into Smash4 after Ike's patch, stark started back too about a month ago. He's got a crew in Cali called FONC. Fist of north Calli. What's new?
    san.
    san.
Glad to hear it! Nothing much on my end, playing when I find the time :)
Dude, thank you so much for the advice you've given me and the matches we had to help improve my Ike. I mentioned you to them at MomoCon, and I think you might be interested in the stream matches. I'll post them in the video critique thread.
Hello, can you help me in the Ike forums?
    san.
    san.
    Sure thing, what's your concern?

I was trying to make a poll regarding who has the best counters against Ike, but I screwed up and can't edit it. I was going to add three more options and change the title. Given the situation, may I edit it?

If it's within your power, feel free to do so. If not, you can message me.
Did you want to join the Mii Fighter Skype group man? I know awhile back HermitHelmet said you wanted to join but you never accepted the request. If you don't want to anymore, that is cool but it would be cool having the best Mii Gunner and the best Mii Brawler in the same Mii Fighter Skype group
    san.
    san.
Sure. I have a lot to learn. I would love to join. Skype name is san3711 I think.

Lol I think? I remember your post in the original thread for that group and you also said "you think" that was your Skype name. Just something funny. Alright, I sent a contact info and I will add you to the group
You never told me why you have a picture of Miyamoto Musashi on your avatar.

Oh. I really enjoyed the manga. It's one of my favorites. I like using Sword characters as my avatar.

I never even knew there was a manga. I just Googled him earlier today from reading the Shihan Essence page on Facebook. Then I saw the picture and knew it was your icon.

yeah. It's called "Vagabond" and the picture is from one of the volume covers.
Want to play? I'm online right now.

Yes, GGs. Don't know if the lag was me or not.

Ike's mobility is really good, and those fall off bairs (from platforms and ledge) were really nice by you.
    san.
    san.
Thanks. I was expecting many more uairs many of those matches. I tried going high to see how you will chase me. Good show mixing up many of your moves. Are you going to try to perfect the footstool combos at all like the Japanese?

Thanks and well to be honest, an approaching dair or dair in general works well against specific chars.

Ike isn't one of them - couldn't find myself the opportunity. But of course I've been implementing it.
Hey San!! I'm that Ness guy from the Smash@York tourney about 2 weeks back, still kinda starstruck that I met one of the best Ikes ever at my first tournament lol. I wish we coulda got in at least one friendly on SSB4 before bracket started that day, Hope you come to Canada for another tournament sometime. Congrats on 3rd there!
    san.
    san.
Hey! Thanks, man. I did a lot better than I thought since I wasn't feeling all that great. I tried to play you, maybe next time!
Do you have Smash Wii U? Or know when you're getting it?
San i enjoyed watching your Ike in brawl too much, do you have any videos on Smash for 3DS/Wii u ?
    Yo, long time no talk.
    Long time no see, haha.

Yeah, it's been a long while. Hope you've been well :)

Everything good here. Still playing Marth, coping with the changes to him. Haven't gone to any tourneys or anything though, not feeling the competitive spirit just yet, but I will soon. I still talk to riptidekid03 and we play alot, and i'm not sure about Lonewolf but a friend of mine tells me hes hitting it hard at this game : ). We'll play again together soon like old brawl times!
I need help following up after uthrow. Even at low/mid percents they jump out before I can get up to them with an aerial. I'm guessing I'm just following up late, but I haven't used uthrow enough to get a great feel of exactly when I can act of out it and make it to them in time. Any advice?
    san.
    san.
There are only a few frames leeway for jump+double jump+fair. At least master it in training mode. You have to double jump+fair (going to be fair most of the time until mid-high percents) as fast as possible. You should time jump+double jump as quickly as possible, too, depending on how high the opponent flew.

It took me a few days to get it to where I can consistently use it on a competitive-level human player.

    Zatchiel
Ah, I see where I was making the mistake. After a little practice I've realized just how soon I can act out of uthrow. The timing is very tight as you said but after noticing that I can get the follow ups now.

    I appreciate the help!
You didn't happen to be playing For Glory just now (11:30 mountaim standard time) with a yellow-scarfed Ike against a default Villager on a Japanese 3DS with your name as "San" in hiragana, did you?
    san.
    san.
It's fine. Wasn't me, I was at a smashfest. I'm probably not going to play For Glory on the Wii U version. The chance of good player + good connection is way too low for me, and I'm probably going to ban FD most sets so it's not good practice.

Makes sense. I thought it was a funny coincidence, another Ike player with the tag "san" albeit in another language. I was doubtful it was you, since I didn't have too much trouble with his Ike and I'm certain you're a better player than me. I wouldn't mind playing you sometime though!
    san.

Sure! NNID is sansoldier though it will take time to getting to add anyone. I'm okay, still trying to get the hang of the new buffering system and neutral game.
