The holiday fever. Figuratively. Trying to relax during this break but oh so much to do xD

You?

I actually have not much to do at all.

Spending the entire day playing Smash and on Smashboards for the most part, haha.

Kinda envy that, haha. I'm going on vacation for a few days to celebrate christmas with some out of state family, then going to work full time for the rest of Christmas break, then right back to university for one last semester.

You should do something productive with your time, man! Go for 100% completion in Smash without using hammers or something xD

Well I'm not being a complete couch potato, I've been looking over my C++ notes from this semester as well as teaching myself some Java before I get into the class that will teach me it next semester. :p

Good on ya being almost done with college, I envy you for that haha.

Grass is always greener I guess, haha. I really wish I wasn't done, I'm having a lot of fun, I'm not ready to leave, and I have no plans for after graduation xD (btw are you computer science major? I happen to be)

I'm supposed to be job searching over break/next semester... But it's hard to motivate myself to do that seriously. Basically after 4 years I hate programming, lol.

Yes I am actually.~

Computer work is one of my absolute favorite things.

I have no problems with it so far, I really enjoy it.

In particular I'm interested in "strict" programming (software engineering) and information security/data forensics the most.

Although I want to learn everything my college offers for CSE if I have to be honest haha.

Are you going into to strict software engineering or a more general computer field?

There's no way to specialize at my school. Just 'Computer Science'. I've generally just done programming stuff, I would probably classify it as software engineering. Personally I went into compsci because I like game dev but that ain't where the jobs are, unfortunately.

Yeah, I'm really interested in game design, but I don't consider myself nearly creative enough to be successful in the field on top of the job issue.

But then again after hearing the stress that Sakurai goes through during a game development cycle, almost glad it's not my primary career prospect.

I definitely have the creative spirit, my issue is if I want to do games I want to start an independent company, and that don't pay bills without a lot of luck. College debt is going to make it necessary to get a real job, at least for a while, lol.

There might be some stress in making a good game, but I don't think there's anything more rewarding, either. Imo seeing something I make on steam and being talked about is the dream, so maybe when (if) I finish the project I'm working on now I can link it to everyone here xD

Yeah, I've always had the problem of dreaming too big, when I start thinking games I snap right to AAA level stuff, not the best idea if I ever do want to get into game design since I will likely have to go indie, haha.

That's definitely something to reign in, haha. I actually run the game design club at my university, and the first thing I do at the beginning of every semester is talk about scale, because everyone always thinks waaay too big for independent projects xD

I hope to get involved in stuff like that as I move through college, my first-year program here is apparently one of the hardest in the nation, I barely had any time for anything that wasn't homework.

<_<

I'm pretty much the opposite, haha. I spend so little time on work that not only is my GPA in the ****ter but I'm pretty sure I've been the cutoff grade for several classes now xD

Still, as the saying goes, C's get degrees. And with a CS degree and internship experience, GPA don't mean nothin'.

I'm the opposite, if I'm getting B's I'm unhappy, I definitely had to adjust to taking B's this semester though.

Thankfully the curve was nice enough to pull my final grades into the B+ and A range and I came away with a decent 3.4 this semester.

I don't know how you do what you do, haha.
