  • His posts annoy me so much I couldn't help but respond to his response to your post.

    Hope you forgive me. :)
Ahhh, I see. I had you figured for the true undecided varient, you're actually a strong agnostic.

Personally, I disagree with that statement, though I tend to stay out of defending theism in them directly anymore (been there, done that). That said, strong agnosticism can be logically defended, "you cannot know" is definately a side, and when dealing with people who are less knowledgable then yourself, it's definately winnable.
    No worries.

That's not really agnosticism, because "I do not believe in x" is doubting the existance. Granted, one can make a stronger statement ("I believe x does not exist"), but both fall under atheism towards x.

Ultimately, I think it's an issue with vocabulary, because you seem to be holding the "undecided" position, but you're not recognizing that your description of your position is a decided one, albiet a weak one.
You seem pretty intelligent, so just a few thoughts you might want to consider.

Is agnosticism really a lack of belief in God, or is it something else? Perhaps, neither belief nor disbelief, a totally undecided position? Consider what the philosophy of agnosticism actually implies. Check out this thread: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=227759

Also, think about things in terms of metaphors. If something doesn't make sense directly, maybe it's equivilent to something in the conversation that does actually make sense. For example, if you were talking about forks before, and a person starts talking about forks in a way that doesn't make sense in context, maybe he's actually talking about say... chopsticks, but alluding to an equivilency in use/effect/whatever by refering to it as a fork.

    Just think about subtext.

    Happy debating.
Before I have to say it again(That I know this, that) I'll tell you this for future reference, I'm minoring in Astrophysics.

Sorry if I sound like a conceited ****:(, just letting you know. Saves you the trouble of having to explain this and that and xyz. But I do appreciate the fact that you do it anyway, the place as a whole benefits from posters like that.

I try to post like that from time to time, it's just that I'm a bit busy at the moment:). Good stuff!
