2D Smash. I think that’d be really interesting.

Actually, I think that, for a fighting game at least, 2D animation could actually be more expensive and hard to pull off. For 2D, you'd have to draw every single frame by hand, but with 3D, you just have to put the models in the key poses without having to draw the same character again and again. I believe that this is actually one of the reasons that 3D animation has dominated 2D animation in movie theaters. (Not to devalue the effort that 3D animation takes at all, animation in general takes a very long time, 2D or 3D)
