  • Okay, so I've decided to do weekly Nexed updates until at least launch (with potential in-between posts about it if something comes up).
In these updates, I'm going to be talking about things I actually have on the Nexed wiki; I have a lot more done than that, but this is better than having to talk about 20+ characters at once.

Starting with said characters, I currently have five on the wiki.
    • Mario: Mario is a character I really wanted to do well, seeing as he's a super iconic character, and therefore brings the expectation of being easy to play. As such, I used his Smash moveset as a base while making a few tweaks - Nothing insane, but just changing up a few moves for the sake of being different than Smash while keeping Mario's kit simple but effective. Three costumes so far.
    • Sonic: Sonic is a character whose moveset in Smash is one I've never really been happy with, so while I retained a few moves for Smash, others were reworked to draw inspiration from modern games like Sonic Battle and Adventure. I also used Fox as a reference since he does a lot of what I think Sonic should be able to do in a platfighter. One costume so far, but I'm open to more.
    • Pac-Man: Aw [Shiitake Mushrooms], here comes Pac-Man. I want to state that I LOVE the way he's handled in Smash, but for the sake of doing things differently, I went with a more Pac-Man World inspired approach (though there are still references to the maze games, especially the CE series). No costumes yet, but to be honest, I'm gonna have trouble whittling my ideas down to a reasonable number LOL
    • Annalynn: It's her! The funny miner girl! I designed Annalynn similarly to how Pac-Man is in Smash, having a simple, trap-based moveset (though I also did make some differences from Pac). I have ideas for two costumes so far, but haven't actually added them yet.
    • Sonnette: This character is actually an OC of mine, being a singer/superhero with a few singing-related powers (she's who I was referring to a few days ago). She took a little bit more work than everyone else listed here, but I'm finally content with her kit! I took some inspiration from characters like Pomme from RoA. No costumes.
I'm planning on launching the game with four other OCs, so if you'd like to see more of those, you're in luck!

As for the stages, so far I have World 1-1, Green Hill, and Jungle Hijinx complete. Each stage comes with twenty songs, being a blend of original music and fan-made remixes. Each stage also comes with a layout design similar to those Wario3 uses for SMSB submissions, so shoutouts to them.

Finally, I have a "main page" and items list in the works - Neither are complete yet, but I'm going to finish the former before I release the wiki officially.

Anyways, yeah, that's what I've got so far! Hopefully people will get a kick out of these updates. I'm really anxious, but also really excited to be doing something I love (making moveset/stage ideas) on a wider scale. Until next time!
I’ve been thinking a little about how to give updates on Nexed; Should I do weekly profile posts or infrequent posts when something major happens, saving most things as surprises?

I usually just show the things the moment I finish them, just excluding things that I think people could find "too boring" like talk about the mechanics, the aesthetic, etc.

I don't want to flood status with daily posts about the project, since I am working on it at least a little every day. Weekly updates would probably focus on things like fighters / stages, while I'd make occasional posts asking for feedback or ideas on stuff I'm really not sure about. Everything else I wouldn't "announce".

I consider it a good idea! Follow your Instinct.
Alright, since I'm bored and have really run out of ideas for new statuses, here's an analysis of the entire Kirby Balls saga up until this point. It is a true cinematic masterpiece on par with Morbius and Minions: The Rise of Gru, and to be honest, I enjoy it more than either film (not that those two aren't phonomenal in their own way). Anyway, let's get started.
    • Episode One: We are introduced to our protagonist, Quit the Build (QTB for short), and his ultimate desire - The Kirby ball coverings used by Target to promote Kirby and the Forgotten Land. We are also introduced to Dale, the deuteragonist of our tale, who can give QTB a "sweet deal" of some kind. We are left to imply this means the sale of Kirby Balls, given Dale's role as a Target employee (hence his nametag), but we are unsure as to what this deal means for QTB. (We are also shown that Dale bears a striking resemblance to Kirby antagonist King Dedede, but this does not play into any future plots aside from brief jokes.)
    • Episode Two: This episode is pratically filler, as it solely consists of QTB interviewing a Kirby Ball. We learn here that Kirby Balls are sought after all over the Internet, but the Kirby Ball is indifferent to the whole idea, implying that the balls are sentient.
    • Episode Three: Nintendo finally emerges from the shadows and offers Kirby Ball seekers the opportunity to purchase Kirby bags. QTB is not amused, and makes a call for Target to sell the Kirby Balls. We learn here that not even the temptation of bags will sway our hero from his quest. Unfortunately, his situation becomes much more grim.
    • Episode Four: QTB's darkest hour has arrived. The Kirby Balls have left Target, as the Forgotten Land promotion has ended. QTB's dream has died. Only one question can be asked: Where was Dale to save us?
    • Episode Five: After being mentioned in Episode One and Four, Dale finally becomes the main character of an episode. We learn many things about Dale in this episode, giving us an idea of his upbringing and sheer might:
      • Dale is a man, not a penguin, despite his appearance. Due to his being represented by King Dedede, this comes as a shock to the audience, and is one of the strongest plot-twists in fictional history.
      • We learn that Dale is a customer service associate at Target. However, he has a secret weapon: In-store coupons. It is implied that these artifacts give him the ability to not only sell the elusive Kirby Balls, but also soft pretzels, among other things found in Target locations.
      • Finally, we are reassured that Dale is a hero with the line "He's the guy on your side", indicating that he is a champion for the people and is not tempted by corporate greed.
    • Episode Six: In the most tearjerking death since Han Solo, Dale is fired from Target, vanishing alongside the Kirby Balls. QTB's line "We've all moved on" can be taken to imply that the search for Kirby Balls has ended without success, leading many to believe that this was the tragic finale of the series.
    • Episode Seven: This episode takes us away from Target from the first time in the series' life, expanding the world of Kirby Balls as QTB makes his way to a Waffle House. There, we are introduced to a new, mysterious character - Not Dale, a Waffle House employee. After having his identity questioned (including his resemblance to Dedede), all he can reply with is "Who wants to know?", ending the episode with no answers.
    • Episode Eight: Victory at last! QTB is seen to have recieved a Kirby Ball, with the reveal that Not Dale was truly Dale this whole time, able to give him the legendary "sweet deal" teased at the beginning of the series. Aside from QTB's celebration with his treasured prize, we also learn of more characters within the Kirby Balls mythos, such as the Waddle Dee, Wheelie Bike, and easy-to-miss cameos by non-Kirby characters Isabelle and Mega Man.
    • Episode Nine: With QTB's quest finally over, we get an episode centered on Dale attempting to reclaim his throne as the Target Customer Service associate, discontent with his Waffle House career. We finally meet series antagonist Bob, who states that Dale had been fired before, minimizing his chances at reemployment. After an argument between the two, Dale resorts to violence and attacks Bob, with the fight resulting in Dale becoming CEO of Target. This episode is truly special as we come to the end of Dale's character arc - He began our story as a humble employee before losing it all, but with the help of QTB, he was able to rise against Target and take it over, ending Bob's reign of terror and ushering in a new era of justice for Kirby Balls everywhere. God bless you, Dale. God bless.
In conclusion, this was a really stupid status lol
just picked up a ps2 at a tag sale, got a few questions:
    • will ps1 controllers/discs/memory cards work?
    • what games would you recommend?
ggs disney, you made front-facing phineas even more terrifying
Kinda ticking me off how folks in the Minecraft community are pointing to the “modding is only acceptable under the current EULA” in the terms of service as a sign that Microsoft’s going after mods next after the chat moderation goes live.

We do have reason to be upset with Microsoft, but that EULA thing’s been around for years. Using it as “proof” that they’re going to start regulating mods only mongers unnecessary fear.
Just got offered a free two-month Xbox Game Pass subscription from Discord - What games should I try out?

A YouTuber I follow is playing The Joy of Creation on stream right now, but all I can think about is how poorly a game where you play as Scott Cawthon and his family protecting themselves against a home invader has aged.

Daily reminder that disagreeing with someone politically is not grounds to doxx them.
This is my favorite piece of Smash fanart ever. Nothing has ever come close.

I still have no idea what "the Wendy's trailer" is supposed to mean.
If anyone has Tabletop Simulator, I'm gonna try and host a room for Deadly Danger Dungeon for a while. Feel free to join - It's a public lobby, and my Steam name is FazDude.
What I ended up buying (ignore stick fight; forgot about stinky taxes and had to drop it 😔 )

Here's my Steam summer sale haul so far. I set myself to a budget of $60, so I've still got $20 left to use. Anyone got any game recommendations and/or want me to buy a copy of Annalynn for them?
if you didn't think i was an annalynn nerd before you def will once her nexed page comes out
Okay, now that I'm actually awake, I want to go into a bit more depth with my "Smash killer" talk from yesterday, hopefully in a more coherent manner.

I'm not against the term "Smash killer" because I think Smash is a perfect product with absolutely no imperfections. It isn't, and I'm glad all of these new platfighters are focusing on areas of the genre where Smash fumbles.

My problem with the term stems from the fact that... well, it has never been true. Slap City wasn't a Smash killer, Rivals of Aether wasn't a Smash killer, NASB wasn't a Smash killer, and I don't have much faith in Multiversus being a Smash killer either. Not to say that these are bad games, far from it. It's just that they failed to make Smash obsolete. The reason as to why is likely due to Nintendo being a major player in gaming rather than a fault of any non-Smash platfighter, but saying each and every platfighter is going to be a "Smash killer" just comes off as desperate these days.

Not only that... it's kinda disrespectful towards non-Smash platfighters? In most cases, they're not even trying to directly compete with Smash, at least not in the way that fans are playing them up. Rivals of Aether has amazing pixel art and teaches players the ins and outs of the more technical side of platfighters, NASB clearly has a lot of dedication towards the competitive scene and Nickelodeon fans, and Multiversus' emphasis on team-based gameplay sets it apart from pretty much every other platfighter out there. They are so much more than "Smash killers", "Smash clones", or anything like that, so to see the identity of pretty much every non-Smash platfighter boil down to being described as those terms really downplays the vision and work behind the teams who make them possible.

Smash is probably never going to be irrelevant. That on its own makes the term "Smash killer" a ridiculous claim at best. More than that, though, it paints the image of the platfighter scene as being simply "Smash and all its clones" when it is really more diverse than that. I know folks here don't do this kind of stuff, so I hold no ill will towards anyone here. I just hope that the platfighter community at large can stop playing up all these great games as Smash killers and simply enjoy them for what they are without the idea of knocking Nintendo down a peg.

    tl;dr: Thaddeus takes a w again
i’m not the first person to say it here but god i am tired of the term “smash killer”. we all know that no matter how good nasb/multiversus/etc. is, it simply will not be able to kill smash. treating all other platfighters as if they were destined to destroy smash not only makes you look a fool when smash inevitably isn’t “killed”, but paints the image of platfighters as “smash and everyone trying to kill smash”, which is insanely broad and a huge disservice to the genre as a whole.

probably a bad idea to post my midnight ramblings but hey whatever
Welp, here we are; Your first extended look at Nexed! I've picked out some of the most crucial parts of Mario's page and left them here for critique and comment. Please feel free to point out any suggestions, whether they be towards formatting, how I'm writing the page, or even Mario's moveset!

As a treat for making it this far, I will say that I am planning to officially launch the wiki once I have eight or so characters done, alongside stages and an items page.
Hey all, remember when I said All-Star Strife/Bloons Blowout jobs would close tonight? Sadly, looks like we’re gonna have to push that to tomorrow; Seems like we’re staying at this beach house overnight. (Really shoulda trusted my gut about bringing my laptop…)

So yeah, new jobs for both threads coming tomorrow. Sorry for the delay!
