After the close range combo, the enemy would be knocked away, and you’d have an opportunity to land another long range punch to extend the combo, while the enemy would have some options to escape or counter you. I think a big issue with the original ARMS trying to obtain long lasting popularity is the scarcity of hype combo moments, so, the capability of there being long combos could help.
