wifi was slightly more playable today
I'm still mad that, everytime I go to my locals, it just feels like I can't perform nearly as well. And I'm not even talking strictly bracket, I mean even in friendlies, against opponents and playstyles I perfectly know how to deal with. The monitors make me feel very sluggish, and like there's always this desync between what I'm intended to do and what the game is doing, like I always have 342543234522kg to just do basic things. I don't think others notice it as much, but then there playstyles are really basic and easy with very little to really think of or execute.

It's like this thing I had since forever, and it feels there's no real solution, and I can't even enjoy friendlies as much anymore (when I play there).

Anyone who criticizes Ultimate tends to get eaten alive so you don't hear complaints as much anymore in public. The game has major design issues as I've mentioned before and it makes the game really inconsistent on the whole. You pretty much have to play along Ultimate's "scripts" or you aren't going to win. Even then, it comes entirely down to luck at the end of the day given how inconsistent hurtboxes are. I find that most MUs are hard win or hard lose and the rest are volatile coin tosses. While I don't doubt that there might be issues with your local setup, I think it is mostly Ultimate at the end of the day. Clunky controls can really make or break even "casual" action games. But a lack of options will kill fighting games. Everyone being shoehorned into very specific styles with little room for creativity makes for a very tedious and boring game.

I find I only enjoy playing a few characters 1v1 due to this and can only truly "let go" and have fun in team battles. The highs are too few in what is a lot of tedium with semi-frequent moments of pure bull**** that cost matches.

The times I do feel I can play normally, I don't find any other real issues, and it just feels like it's up to my skill from there (like it should be). I really have no complaints if I could just play like that, but apparently it's too much to ask.
    Oz o:
    Oz o:
I also never liked when people try to justify these problems and owe it to my playstyle, and because I'm not playing textbook and because I "shouldn't" go for the things I go for, when it's something that should be pretty feasible if you're skilled enough. I never owed my losses to that, and it never felt that way to me. And if it is, I was fine accepting, but nothing player better couldn't solve.
Wanted this for over a year, kind of gave up on it (stopped trying), and then I randomly decide to try it one time and...
I realised I legitimately play 20 times better with my brain shut off. Thinking is so overrated. If anything, if I'm not doing too well, it's because I didn't shut my thoughts enough.

Sure, but there's no real distinction when a bad player does it in this game versus a good player because of the way the game is designed. What you say is absolutely true but the risk/reward in this game is so skewed that the common masher can achieve the same result. It basically makes being fundamentally good pointless because the high damage mechanic + super fast and safe hitboxes allow fundamentally bad players to have an even fight.

You are most likely doing it the "correct" way but the bad players doing it "incorrectly" get the same reward because Ultimate is badly designed. That's more what I was getting at. It feels like you have to play thousands of hours to be able to "auto pilot" only to go even with a mindless masher. I can pull all sorts of crazy stuff without thinking only to have my opponent fall out of my attack and get a cheap kill. It's why I eventually quit the game.
    Oz o:
    Oz o:
I don't feel I get that, unless it's wifi. I'm usually outplaying them if I'm playing like that, which means I'm playing well.

It's like the chicken and the egg, but the lag definitely exaggerates the flaws within the game, and I always said it. Things that seem catastrophic on wifi are far more managable offline, and it's hard to tell if you're mostly playing online. I lose to really bad players on wifi (or at worst go even), but some people understimate the advantage all those frames give you.

It's a no-brainer that wifi works heavily in the favour of bad players, because they never had or required any precision in their play, while good players end up heavily nerfed, unless their playstyle is really simplistic to compensate. I never bought that nonsense of "bUt YoUr OpPoNeNt Is AlSo AfFeCtEd".

It certainly makes things like burst options really obnoxious but the games flaws are present even in top level offline play. The major problem is a trifecta between the broken hurtboxes, high damage output (relative to the other games), and the negligible startup a lot of moves have. If you whiff from being unable to properly connect with these broken hurtboxes you are taking insane damage. It leads to the game becoming an obnoxious button masher in neutral with an inconsistent advantage/disadvantage because of things like spotdodges or neutral airdodges that are fast falled and/or small hurtboxes on characters with fast aerials. Every character and player has major issues with consistency.

It's just a bad game at the end of the day. Bad players can win because there is no observation of fundamentals and the mechanics make button mashing very strong. The fact that you can cover half the stage with an attack that has lots of active frames (dash attack, Nair, etc) means the concept of spacing and stage control go out the window. The fact that you can roll across the stage while pancaking to the ground, through attacks thanks to the intangibility, and end up behind your opponent means that entire archetypes like traditional swordies and projectile zoners are unviable. Spotdodges and neutral airdodges can completely reset frame advantage and cheese stocks off of opponents.

The game is just a broken mess. Tweek called it back in 2020 and it has only gotten worse now that everyone knows how to abuse the broken design. You can do everything right and still lose because of the bad design making everything so inconsistent.

Every now and then. I've been very busy over the past six months and I don't see that slowing too much for a while. Was supposed to play with a friend a week ago but that fell through.

I like the Up-B being used as a turnaround/spacing thing offstage. It makes for an interesting aesthetic look to the edgeguards.

That's just the Tether Cancel. MKLeo also uses it, but I just use it all the time. It's not just flashy, but it also essentially gives you a turnaround Bair without needing to jump and RAR.

Wifi Pyras better watch out lol. I see that you're still working on the ledge trumps.

I think it's a funny coincidences both are on Pyra and from a different side of the stage.

I've been working very hard to get specific clip, and it couldn't turn out more perfect. The cherry on top is that he actually teched the first part, which makes it feel more presentable (at least slightly). Guys on social media will put any excuse on the book to invalidate your clip, if it's not this thing, than it's the other. I'm just done with that kind. But even then, I did it for myself. The last one felt a little sloppy, and even a little bit slow on execution.

Took me about three whole weeks- or more, to be able to get this. There were days I would come really close, but miss on the last hit (sourspot) or the ledgetrump altogether (she has one of the hardest ledge trumps ever). There's so many hoops to jump through to get this, as simple as it might seem. It was a lot easier with Sephiroth, honestly.

What does chubby have to do with greed.

I do agree there's something more to her. She weighs more than Kazuya when I use her.

I think the implication is that chubby people tend eat more than their fair share of food and are fat as a result. We could associate that with greed.

Though I have no idea what the kids are saying these days with all this new Zoomer speak.

Hey, me neither. They pull stuff out of their every week, like a new trendy word ("ZAMN", "cap", etc.) or these new acronyms for casual talk that apparently I'm supposed to know but I probably didn't rot my brain enough with Twitter or Tik Tok or whatever they learn this from.

And apparently using skull emojis is the new "lol" now. : D

wow, I actually just learned IDJ. Didn't think it'd open up such a world for Zelda, she gets like 2-3 extra pokes out of it. It's crazy.

I've only practiced it a few days, I haven't really tried it online (do I really want to?). It's probably something I'll have to save for offline later. I am really confident at it, though.
Been getting Dthtrow > Fair at fairly "high" (60%+) percents yesterday. Didn't get it just 2-3 times, I actually got it quite a couple of times, and I'm starting to believe it's consistent. Both my friends know they have to DI away, my other friend even buffers a panic airdodge. I got it on him as late as 88% on Wario, as absurd as it sounds. Even got it on him twice in the same match, and it's crazy how it kills at 50-60. I stopped using and trying to master that, but learning that is ridiculously good.

Looking at it like that, it's no wonder Zelda's grab by itself is pretty bad, because she really gets reward off of it, granted it's not free and requires it's timing and precision. DI away (the "optimal" DI) can kill characters as early as 40% by the ledge, and you can mix up their DI at higher percents, like if they're by the ledge and DI away at 100+ they might die to a Bthrow or an Uair (DI in/neutral).
    S
    StoicPhantom
I think it depends a lot on tumble animations and DI, but it is "there" to a certain extent for sure. I don't know that I would justify Zelda's grab being bad because of it (there are some characters with good grabs and pretty nasty options out of them) but it is definitely an underrated aspect about her.
    Oz o:
    Oz o:
I'm telling you, my friends are very used to DI'ing away and throwing some panic option, so they'd never fall for it if it weren't true. And I did it more than just a couple of times. I discussed it with Rickster and Katy Parry, and they know it's true, but apparently 99% of Zelda mains aren't open to it.

I don't mean the whole set, just character items like R.O.B's Gyro or Link's bombs. I somewhat started labbing the former, but I still don't have a full conclusion of combo routes.
I know why you're here, you're fed up of the fear
Sick of the fantasy world they've built, so you never see clear
    Something is coming unplugged
There's a glitch in your trust
You got an itch for the cure, but you're scared to walk out the door
I'm here to tell you there's a universe that lives without law
    Something is coming unplugged
    'Cause you keep asking yourself
    When will we be free?
    When will we be free?
    When will we be free?

I'm figuring out and expanding the tech chase setups with Zelda, and I'm figuring out more setups to potential kills you can do starting 0%. It'll get pretty crazy once I start getting those clips rolling, but in the meantime:
