PPMD Plans a Gradual Return to Melee

After a nine-month absence from Super Smash Bros. Melee due to health-related concerns, elite player Kevin "EG | PPMD" Nanney confirms that he will be returning. While he is unsure if he will be ready to compete in time for Genesis, he does seem reasonably confident that he'll be entering tournaments within a few months. He also mentioned that his Melee skills are already coming back. Smashboards wishes PPMD a swift and full recovery!

CEO to host Dreamland, a Smash-Focused Spin-Off

The rumors have been confirmed: CEO Gaming's Alex Jebailey has just announced CEO Dreamland for April 14-16, 2017. This new installment in the long-running CEO series focuses specifically on Smash and Smash-related titles. Confirmed games include Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros., Brawlhaha and Rivals of Aether. All games will feature both doubles (on Friday) and singles (Saturday and Sunday) brackets. This tournament will not be replacing Smash at CEO 2017; instead, it is to serve as spin-off in the CEO series.

This Saturday, November 19, Richard "CLG Keitaro" King Jr. will host the final installment of his beloved KTAR series in Somerset, NJ. What began as a small Brawl regional in 2009 has grown to attract top-level talent from all over the US and beyond! 3rd Phase of Summit Voting Complete - Mafia and S2J Invited

The third phase of voting for Smash Summit 3 has concluded, with two more players invited and two others eliminated. James “HTC | Mafia” Lauerman landed in 1st place, while Johnny “Tempo | S2J” Kim took second. Both will be flown out to compete with some of the best Super Smash Bros. Melee players in the world. Additionally, Joey “Selfless | Lucky” Aldama and Daniel “VGBC | ChuDat” Rodriguez will not move on to the next phase, and so won’t be able to attend.
Hungrybox Will Compete in Melee Full-Time

Today on his Twitch.tv stream, professional Super Smash Bros. Melee player Juan “Liquid | Hungrybox” DeBiedma announced that he will be competing full-time. DeBiedma was previously employed as an engineer, but is leaving his job to make Melee his primary focus for the next few years. In addition, he will be moving back to Orlando, Florida from his current location in Alabama.
Luminosity Gaming Signs Abadango

Earlier today, Luminosity Gaming announced the signing of professional Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player Yuta “Abadango” Kawamura. Founded by Steve “Buyaka” Maida in 2015, Luminosity has already risen to prominence in a diverse assortment of games. These range from card games (Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft) to first-person shooters (Overwatch and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3) to MOBAs (Smite and League of Legends). This move represents their first foray into fighting games, let alone the Super Smash Bros. series.
Renegades Signs Dabuz and Swedish Delight

Today, Detroit-based esports team Renegades announced they'll be sponsoring Samuel "Dabuz" Buzby and James "Swedish Delight" Liu. The Renegades are currently owned by Boston Celtics forward Jonas Jerebko. This marks their first foray into Smash after primarily focusing on League of Legends and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. As both players represent strong acquisitions, expect Renegades to become a well-recognized name within the Smash community as well.

Canada Cup is Crowdfunding a $30K SSBM Prize Pool

Announced via Facebook today, Canada Cup Gaming is pairing up with crowdfunding platform Matcherino in order to raise $30,000 for both Super Smash Bros. Melee’s and Street Fighter V’s prize pools. This is obviously big news for the Canadian Melee community, who already managed to attract top-level talent to last year’s tournament. If successful, this would make Canada Cup 2016 the second largest Melee prize pool ever!
