Adding on to my earlier post, the thing that made the original marvel civil war so effective was that the conflict was over an issue with no real right answer. both sides had a point, same was true for avenger vs xmen. but they seem to struggle to recreate this. from what i know of the plot of the second one the fight is over something not as effective. the idea of free will vs destiny. one of the major troubles with this is that there have been plenty of characters who can see the future in marvel so why wasn't an issue until then?
I only just realised how weird CBBC must sound to someone non-British
  • Half of the shows were serious YA dramas
  • They still do the whole "live puppets between shows" thing from the 60s. Even now.
  • There was a show called Chute! that was literally just memes, including Neil Cicierega works
  • A weirdly recurring theme about shows involving the concept of being trapped forever (the aforementioned Chute, Trapped!, and Relic)
  • Multiple shows were fundamnetally based around really ambitious web-browser-game connectivity, and it worked somehow
  • Big Babies
As a kid I always thought CITV was the "edgy alternate network" (as far as that can go when there are 2 viable channels for your age demographic), but yeah, in hindsight, CBBC was unhinged. Very unhinged

come to think of it i never really thought of it in this way but actually yeah this is such a weird but true point, cbbc is inherently such a weird thing - though shoutout to that web-browser-game connectivity, the weird doctor who flash games were literally a formative part of my childhood
side note but i remember experiencing what i can only describe as like an existential crisis when i watched trapped! for the first time as like a 9 year old because i genuinely thought that they just trapped the kids in this ****ing tower forever or something and like they didn't say otherwise so i guessed they were just genuinely trapped lol
When I was in high school I had an idea for a donkey kong country story where the animal friends were ghosts that help characters in fights and that acts as the main power system. Having stands in donkey kong is one of the stupidest ideas ever but I stand by the fact that would go hard af.

DK’s would have been Rambi, Diddy’s would be Squawks and K. Rool would have Tiki Tong
