Streets of Smash - Axel Stone Support Thread (Streets of Rage 4 out now!)

I'm game, on one condition... ...he's gotta have the beard. At least in an alt! SoR4 Axel is one of my favorite recent character designs in a game for sure.

This is how I would change Hero

Mechanically, I like the idea of having symbols, but...I really think Hero would be too powerful at that point. Giving that extra bit of clarity would make Down-B an even stronger "move," so I think they'd have to nerf most of the Command Selection spells to balance it out.

    Fighting against this character

Yeah, I figure Hero's crits are included because DQ pretty much "invented" critical hits in video games, at least in the JRPG sense. That's why it makes more sense for him than, say, the Pokemon or EarthBound characters.

    To address Hero's concerns.

I really don't understand this desire to make Hero more vanilla by both removing his critical hits, and improving his normals. This seems boring to me; the character is fresh, interesting, fun and controversial. We have 75 other players to pick from--why flatten out one of the most unique...

    To address Hero's concerns.

Kamikazee is an awesome spell. It's very common to be slightly in the lead but basically running on fumes--I'm talking over 110% and with barely any magic. This is the time to fish for Kamikazee, because that 50% damage is going to make a huge difference even if it doesn't KO your opponent. I'm...

Heroes Draw Near. Command? (Hero Social Thread)

I think the original DQ is pretty underrated, at least outside of the credit it gets for its legacy in crafting the JRPG. The grinding element of the game is an issue, but really only near the very end (between when you get the best armor and when you can reliably fight the final boss). The rest...

Ah okay, that's a lot clearer now, thanks.

Heroes Draw Near. Command? (Hero Social Thread)

In these cases, I rely on quicker moves like jab, up tilt, Whoosh, Zap, and blocking/grabbing. But yeah, it can really be a pain. If it's someone like Pikachu, Bounce can help throw off his game a bit.

Dragon Quest’s Hero out today! Post your thoughts!

I love using Kaswoosh super low when people try to chase me offstage, then having it blast them into a stage spike. So satisfying~

    Media Hocus Pocus Odds

Sorta. I can see the argument that using a random spell (nearly all of which benefit Hero in some way) for only 4 MP could be a good deal. That's far fewer MP than any Command Selection, really. But definitely a roll of the dice either way.

    Fighting against this character

Suggesting that Hero doesn't require skill is ridiculous. Command Selection--choosing abilities on the fly by immediately reacting to four choices--is one of the most mentally-taxing moves of any character. Add to this the management of MP for portioning out buffs, attacks and recoveries, and...

The Hero Discussion – To Ban or Not to Ban?

I think the fact that I've heard an equal amount of "He's totally OP!!" mixed with "He's a total joke, the worst character in the game!!" I'm going to defer to Sakurai and his team's judgement on him averaging out to be balanced. Granted, the article was about his randomness, but I think it's...

How does Hero deal with short-hopping, rushdown characters?

I'm also horrible on Battlefield with Hero, which is an obvious problem. I feel like Command Selection is too slow to pop people with strong spells when they can simply hop up to the upper platforms (or lower base of the stage). I get juggled like crazy here.

How does Hero deal with short-hopping, rushdown characters?

Whoosh is an interesting suggestion. I've had a bit of success with it in the past for mixing things up, and it comes out quickly and uses little MP. I'll have to keep that in mind, thanks. Are short-hop and/or full-hop Zap/Zapples feasible for staving off short-hoppers?

How does Hero deal with short-hopping, rushdown characters?

By a wide margin, aggressive opponents give me the most trouble when I'm playing Hero. I can't even think about bringing up Command Selection while being juggled. Zap and Zapple are meant to deal with this, but my foe very often jumps repeatedly to avoid them and can easily punish when I whiff...
