Nintendo's hands-off attitude towards competitive, pro or con?

They do care. Just because flaunting massive prize pools and leagues everywhere doesn't mean they don't like or care about the Smash scene. It's a unique a approach, one that's not better or worse than the others.

Nintendo's hands-off attitude towards competitive, pro or con?

Sure, with any normal game, you can base your input solely on the competitive scene, which will improve the experience for everyone else. Smash is different. It's dual nature as a party game means it requires a more time consuming and meticulous approach to balancing that casual and competitive...

Does the Competitive Smash Ultimate Scene Need More Major Tournaments, Sponsors, etc.?

Agreed. But I do think the game in question should be at least fun to play if your aiming to make money playing it.

Does the Competitive Smash Ultimate Scene Need More Major Tournaments, Sponsors, etc.?

Yes, I am aware that happens often in work. But when your pay is essentially coming from playing Video Games, you should at least have fun doing it. At least that's what I think.

Nintendo's hands-off attitude towards competitive, pro or con?

It isn't like they're not doing at least some of these things. They've been doing some good balancing, and have at least gave you the ability to turn off stage hazards. If they actually didn't care, we'd just have another Brawl gameplay wise. Ultimate does have room for improvement. But It's...

Nintendo's hands-off attitude towards competitive, pro or con?

The thing is. The team bases a lot of their balancing on Elite Smash. So input from that is considered when balancing. Plus, as you mentioned, the huge roster means not everyone can get equal treatment, and perhaps the team sees more potential in some characters vs. others. I do think they can...

Nintendo's hands-off attitude towards competitive, pro or con?

Like most publishers with multiplayer games these days, Nintendo has placed a big focus on eSports with Splatoon, ARMS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Unlike most publishers though, Nintendo stays pretty hands off with the competitive scenes for their games. They'll endorse events like EVO and...

    EVO 2019 Announcement expectations

After CEO wraps up this week, the biggest FGC tournament is upon us. EVO. The lineup was revealed earlier this year and for the first time in a long time, there is only one Smash game taking the main event, Ultimate. Last year, Nintendo announced a Smash Ultimate Direct for August 8th following...

Does the Competitive Smash Ultimate Scene Need More Major Tournaments, Sponsors, etc.?

According to Sakurai, apparently Nintendo doesn't like contributing to the prize pot that much because they're not a fan of people who are only playing for the money and no actual enthusiasm for the game, which sadly is quite common in eSports titles. Many SFV players dislike the game, but they...

Features you want In Ultimate 3.0

In the last Nintendo Direct, a new update for Smash Ultimate was announced for spring. 3.0 marks the 2nd major update to the game this year. However, it was just a tease, as no features or changes were announced, but they did say we'll have to wait and see. With this being such a big update...

Does Sakurai really view Smash as "Casual Vs. Competitive"?

Nintendo has been pushing for eSport potential in a lot of their games recently. Splatoon 2, ARMS, Smash 4 and Ultimate, even Mario Tennis Aces to an extent. Before they simply didn't care, now they're actively involved in sponsoring and promoting tournaments, even running a few of their own...

Does Sakurai really view Smash as "Casual Vs. Competitive"?

Smash Bros. isn't just great party fighter for newcomers, it's also got plenty of technical nuance underneath to satisfy veteran fighting game fans too. It's a big reason why the series is so successful. However, many Smash fans tend to only box Smash or certain parts of the game in either one...

Why does everyone assume that new tech will be patched out?

It was only really DACUS that was patched out.

Why does everyone assume that new tech will be patched out?

Nearly every character has had landing lag significantly cut on all aerials in Ultimate vs. Smash 4. Landing lag in Ultimate would be roughly the equivalent of L-canceled landing lag in Melee. And the fact that auto canceling still exists for most characters allows some to cut that even further...

Why does everyone assume that new tech will be patched out?

That was a problem initially, but it's since been fixed in Version 1.2.0, from what I've heard, match making with custom rules is far more consistent now. Like I said, Online still isn't great, but the fact that they addressed the biggest complaint pretty quickly is a step in the right...
