    If you don't mind waiting longer to get your preferred rules, why not try the Arenas mode? Make an arena, select your ruleset for it, and play with those rules as much as you like. That's what I do at least.

    That's exactly how it works! I agree with Dark though, I have 8 characters in elite smash, and I think I have played only 2 or 3 of them since around Christmas. Some sort of point decay for inactivity would make sense, even if it only kicked in after a month or so, just to stop people like me...

    Out of the core 8... That's a hard call. I think I'd have to say either Yoshi or Fox. Yoshi feels more like a part of the Mario Franchise to this day than his own series, and still pops up as an item in those games. We don't typically give items a character slot, do we? Fox on the other hand...

    AFAIK, most moves will keep you facing the same direction that you were facing when you got hit. That said, some moves are exceptions to this, like Mario's cape (which will reverse your direction) or most command grabs (which will set you to face a fixed direction on hit).

    Hmm... When you observe these inconsistencies, what are you playing? Local multiplayer? Quick play? Arenas? Different modes have different elements involved that could contribute. Also, is it always that you start good, then get worse, or is it the other way around sometimes?

    Yeah, as far as I have seen, most players treat the "any" section as a low/intermediate, and the "veteran" section as an intermediate/high setting. That said, with only self reported matchmaking, they can all have pretty high variance.
