    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

I, and everyone else here, keeps talking about "banning stages", but this is a misunderstanding. "Banned" has clearly become the default. So it's not really that stages are being "banned", it's that stages are being "chosen for inclusion". Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville, and Pokemon...

    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

Just in case it isn't clear, when I say "There's only going to be 5 legal stages. period" I do not mean "There SHOULD be 5 stages". I am saying that this is the logical consequence of the current ruleset. PXP1 seems to me like it would be a large improvement, and it's probably more realistic to...

    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

I am extremely confident that this happens a lot! So... again, I'm claiming that you're probably gonna get the smashville situation again if stage striking is used. Stage striking itself is the problem! 5 is the optimal number of stages when striking, period. If a tournament is using stage...

Laziness is definitely not the right word. A better term for it would be 'conservative' or maybe 'reactionary' or 'neophobic'. It's not that they are exerting less effort than they should be. It's that they are (perhaps excessively) committed to doing things in the way that has been established...

I mean, I am probably the biggest proponent of personalized lists instead of stage striking! I made an app for it (shameless plug even though I already linked it last page: http://smashlists.droppages.com/)! Some other people have suggested other systems too, like not using starters at all on...

    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

I don't want people to actually ban the belmonts or olimar or whatever. And I DO expect a ton of stages will be banned with faulty justification too (unless people suddenly actually do the stage lists thing I keep harping on). But I figure it's worthwhile to at least state what a logically...

Is this theoretical or does this consistently happen in practice? Also, how bad is the camping? Should mild camping even be bannable? If it's extreme then that's a problem, but if it is not extreme, then... well, if you're going to ban stages for promoting camping, there are a few characters...

    Meta SSBU Competitive Ruleset Discussion

I'm gonna bring over a discussion from the pre-release stage discussion thread, since this seems like a more appropriate place for it than the stagelist discussion thread... I'm an advocate for personalized stage lists as an alternative to stage striking and counterpicking. Here is how the...

    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

In the old thread, I promised I would make a version of the personalized-lists app that works on mobile, and I have that now. http://smashlists.droppages.com/ For those who didn't keep up on that, this is an alternative system that is meant to replace stage striking and counterpicking. I'm...

    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

That makes sense, I figured that if there was an actual reason, it's that the morph itself was too disruptive. I feel like it's still debatable whether it should be used or not, but I suppose it doesn't matter if everyone has made up their minds. Edit: Just so we're clear, I'm not saying stage...

    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

Yeah, I kinda figured that trying to get folks to adopt a better ruleset was unlikely, but I figured it's worth a try, seeing as the 'regular' method seemed like one of the worst that anyone discussed, at least one paper. I would've been surprised if hazards mixed had actually survived. For...

    Meta SSBU Stagelist Discussion

Should those discussions of stage selection methods be moved over to the Competitive Ruleset Discussion thread? Then this thread can be more focused on the legality of individual stages, as well as their mechanics. That seems like the reasonable thing at this point, unless I'm misinterpreting...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Well, images take up a lot of space on the screen, and I'm worried about making it look right on a phone. The images do add a lot to that website though, so I should probably at least give it a try. It will be harder to do it when there are lists of 30+ stages though... I was thinking, as a...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Guys, just so we're clear, I already created an app for stage list selection here: http://smashfilters.droppages.com/ I know it's rough around the edges but the basic functionality is all there. You can load player's lists, as well as rulesets, and do the calculations, all basically instantly as...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Ok here is a weird thing that happens if you use lists to decide stage 1, and counter-picks to decide future stages... it would make sense for the pool of stages used in counter-picks to be SMALLER than the initial stage 1 pool used for lists. Like... maybe 30 or more stages used in the lists...
