I like impressive mechanics. A lot of people do. Sports like basketball and tennis are dominated by mechanics. I would prefer chess if it had the same complexity plus harder mechanics. A game being mechanically easy is a legitimate criticism.

@pierce: Well said. If you want a unified ruleset just have a set of rules that all or a vast majority of the TOs that run major events will agree to use. Everyone will follow suit. And if you find that's impossible, then maybe that tells you something about having a unified ruleset.

Ok you can't just pick up mk and win (unless you're nairo), because MK isn't that kind of broken (without planking or infinite dimensional cape). He is by no means unbeatable. That doesn't mean he isn't too good.
