I can’t be the only one who’s having trouble beating Challenger Aproaching matches?

They do, yes. The first few will be like level 3-5 CPUs. By the end they must be at least level 8... which is actually pretty challenging in this game, haha. Personally I found the challenge pretty enjoyable.

I am really not excited for this game any more - possible spoilers

I've been playing it for the last 1.5 weeks and it beats the stuffing out of smash 4. Trust me.

Data Zelda’s Smash Ultimate Moveset /Move Viability Discussion: Phantom Slash = Huge Neutral Buff

I was worried back around E3 that parries would screw over characters with multi-hit moves since you'd be able to just drop shield on the last hit for an easy parry. Fortunately it seems they thought of this and implemented some formula that determines variable parry-window sizes for multihit...

Discussion of Stage Legality in Smash Bros. Ultimate

I quite like the idea of having larger "buckets" of stages that are selected from first, then moving on to choose a stage within the bucket.

Is this game Broken? (New combos discovered)

Wobbling is an exploit. Generally, in the large majority of cases, DI meant the person being combo'd had some say in how it played out. Not a controversial statement.

Data Zelda’s Smash Ultimate Moveset /Move Viability Discussion: Phantom Slash = Huge Neutral Buff

This guy posted a nice overview of changes to her moveset, seems pretty positive https://twitter.com/MeruSensei/status/1067926623754833921

Is this game Broken? (New combos discovered)

Yes, that's why I said melee moreso than Smash 4.

Data Zelda’s Smash Ultimate Moveset /Move Viability Discussion: Phantom Slash = Huge Neutral Buff

Yup, just hold shield and press up B. It's great. I had Y mapped to special so I could slide from X to Y lmao. Those dark days are behind us now.

Is this game Broken? (New combos discovered)

That's why combos in smash are more interesting than other fighters; the person being combo'd is still actively participating thanks to DI. That, along with percent-based knockback, also makes smash combos more improvisational than memorization-based. Although that's more the case in melee than...

Data Zelda’s Smash Ultimate Moveset /Move Viability Discussion: Phantom Slash = Huge Neutral Buff

Playing against my friend, it seems the anti-phantom strat is definitely going to be jumping over it whenever possible. It's just too risky for people to face it on the ground. It helps that jumps accelerate really fast. Looks like we'll need to get good at catching people with uair. Good news...

People who already have the game getting bad first impressions?

I've been playing the last 2 days, I'd certainly say it's better than Smash 4. Combo-wise, it feels like we have about the same amount of true combos, maybe a bit more, but thanks to the air dodge changes we'll get more viable 50/50 followups. Most importantly, movement and neutral feel much...

Data Zelda’s Smash Ultimate Moveset /Move Viability Discussion: Phantom Slash = Huge Neutral Buff

Interesting, when I heard Palutena had lost ledge-cancels on her up B I assumed Zelda would too. I wonder why they decided to keep it for some characters and not others. My roommate has the game and I got to play a bit today. If you release the fully charged phantom then grab ASAP and forward...

Landing Lag/Generalized Frame Data Thread (Training Mode Tested// All 76 chars)

Thanks for this. Boy, the frame-by-frame functionality is gonna make it a whole lot easier to get frame data for this smash. Like stupidly easy.

Is this game Broken? (New combos discovered)

Is Smash 64 broken? Anyway I personally consider these good things, combos are gr8. I didn't know training mode had a DI option, it's about time! How does it let you configure it?

Social Zelda Social - Still the queen of Smash...and maybe queen of low tier for a decade, too. Shall we make it two?

Ok I played like 8 more matches. The buffering system is REALLY annoying. I like buffering and actually didn't mind brawl's 10 frames. But the window for dodging or jumping out of hitstun (and perhaps rolling out of shieldstun) feels like it's at least 30 frames. I was frequently getting dodges...
