  • My faith in this game has been restored, **** yes.

I'm so happy I could just let the rest of the DLC be male.
You can have Geno, you can have doom slayer, I'm happy.

More female reps would be still nice thoigh.....

Have you played Touhou before? You might enjoy that series for its huge female cast.

    Heard of it,yes.

    Reimu for Smash.
I swear, Smash speculation is only miserable for feminists like me.

A simple requests bogged down by people who only seek what they think is happy for them.

I feel pretty confident that the ARMS character will be one of the women from that game's roster. Then again, I doubt that we'll be getting an assist trophy promotion, which likely plays a part in that. (between Dr. Coyle being the true final boss, Ribbon Girl being a mascot for the game who isn't an assist trophy, and Min Min and Twintelle seeming to be the most popular characters, the odds seem pretty good - I'm not super familiar with ARMS, though)

Uh, if it makes you feel better, half my wish list are women. Not that it's a long list for sure, but...

Seriously? You saying our picks are bad cause they aren't female? Whole point of speculation is literally to discuss chances of those picks with others who agree. I understand where you're coming from, but calling out everyone's picks that aren't yours is kinda... rude, at least not without proper reasoning.
I've been trying my best on my AVOID EVERYTHING imperative.

Nothing good has happened over the course of the year. Might as well avoid news altogether.

Also, **** people overthinking cynicism in life. Be grateful you're still alive, and don't wish bad things upon everything else just because **** happens.
Smash is reflective of our patriarchal society. When will we realize gender equality?
The problem with this "females and gaming industry stuff" is that people are just lazy. Instead of doing something that is supposed to fix the problem, they just live with it. Like, can't they get **** together for once?
I have reached peak social justice warrior level.

Smashboards is a walking microaggression. If I continue to try and interact, I'm only going to get triggered.

Tbh I don't know what to do anymore with this account since I'm slowly falling out of Smash and going into other ventures.

I haven't seen much of Lesley's posting so I can't really comment. I posted specifically about Feminism and Sexism and wanted to elaborate on what Ben said and offer my own words. That's as far as my interest goes. I'm not really commentating on your beef with her, but on your logical inconsistencies in regards to her hypocrisy and how her views, at least stated in this profile post, are still congruent with Feminism. By all means beef away and call her out on her behavior if you feel that's necessary. But either do it while maintaining logical consistency or don't do it a public forum. It won't do to be guilty of thing you are calling her out on regardless of her behavior.

    "alt.right"
Ok, you've legitimately lost me here. One look at my post history, especially in the Serious Discussion topics, would tell you I'm the polar opposite of alt right. I got called a traitor and communist by a guy there that was legitimately alt right. Nor was I insinuating you were either. My original intention was to help clarify common misconceptions that I see on this topic.

    "Mirai"
She's hardly the norm in that game so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. But even so, "Lolicon" generally refers to people attracted to a specific age range of young girls that are immature both physically and mentally. This character is still in the petite category not the immaturity category. She's "loli", which can be slang for petite, but she's not lolicon because that's referencing something different. The term "legal loli" exists for instance for girls that are petite but are of age as an example. That's what threw me off. She might still appeal to those types, but it's important to note that the immorality stems from the mental and emotional immaturity of girls that age, not the physical side of things. If she's still fifteen then it's hard to get more uptight about her than one would any of the others, if I was the type to do that.

It's irrelevant though, because I was talking about Feminism and Sexism, which age had no relation to and really shouldn't even have been brought up.

Again I have no dog in your fight, I just commented specifically on the feminism and hypocrisy angle.

Do what your heart tells you Lesley. If you choose to leave, friends like myself will miss you but accept your decision. If not and don't want to engage in social discussion, you can just continue to keep posting on your profile where me and others can talk with you.

Just remember you got friends here like myself. :)
I'm going to be honest. I'm not joining in speculation if none of them will appeal to my feminist cause.

That's a sour grape outlook to have to be frank. No one is against the idea of more females being added, in fact, I myself want a lot, but we're also not going to stop everything just to change the subject either, that's a bit selfish, ngl. If the topic at hand is about a potential female character, people will discuss it, but we're not going to drop everything and talk about female characters 24/7 either, that's just unreasonable.

Anyone who disagrees with me is automatically wrong, and I refuse to interact with them.
I honestly never understand why Smashboards community calls stuff like posting stuff like lists games or anything. If you're playing a game, youy're expected to win or lose in some way. It's just posting stuff over and over...it shouldn't be considered that, should it?

Not sure what you mean by that, but yes, repetition is very much this board's bread and butter.

Especially the Ultimate social, which tended to cycle back into Pokémon/same-sex talk/stuff that gets the thread locked every so often (last I checked, anyway, I haven't looked back since the Katalina fiasco).
What's the trick to making a tear jerking scene in your opinion?

Take my opinion with a grain of salt since I'm not a writer, but to me the most important thing is the build up.

If a character who as introduced in episode 9 of a TV show dies in episode 10 for instance, it's hard for me to feel that strongly about it. But if they're introduced in episode 2 and get plenty of screen time and good character to help me get attached to them then their death could feel devastating.

Assuming you are referring to death or similar scenes of sadness, I'd say being able to emulate the complex sucker punch that is IRL death and it's impact on others. That cocktail of unpreparedness, confusion, denial, and suddenness to the point of feeling unfair. If you can understand and master that, you can write such a scene however you want, regardless of audience relationship, familiarity, or and/or like/dislike with the dying character or the related characters.

Spoilers if you haven't played Majora's Mask (Zelda) but Mikau from the Great Bay portion of the game is a good example. You don't really know who he is at first as you are happening upon him in his dying moments. Even after he tells his life story and requests for you to save the eggs he suffered mortal wounds for, you still don't really have any connection. It's only after you take up this quest and start interacting with those he left behind do you understand the gravity of his death and the tragedy that took place unbeknownst to you at the time.

This is converse to the preceding Snowhead portion, where you already have an idea of who the deceased is and how his death impacts the surviving, especially if you've played the previous installment. You still don't know much of who Mikau really is and nobody realizes he's dead because you are pretty much impersonating him. But just the way people respond to you makes you understand the impact knowledge of his death would have on them and that in retrospect impacts you the same as if you already knew who he was.

It's grief in the reverse and is part of what makes that game so legendary. The moment of death doesn't impact you, but you end up feeling the impact of his death afterwards and feel that sense of tragedy all the same. And you still feel that sense of tragedy, even though it's out of order, because the writers have a good understanding of death and it's impact on people.

Majora's Mask in general is a good thing to study if you want to understand more about the subject of death and grief.

And it's not just death either. Pretty much all sense of "tear jerking" scenes will more or less play along these lines. I'm not sure what sense you are meaning, but studying how powerful emotions and situations impact people is how you pull of these kinds of scenes in a way that engages audiences. Be it happy or sad, they all pretty much have the same roots in how we react to them.

Make sure it has an actual impact on the story after. Sticking with the death example, if you are more sad missing a character than the moment a character dies, that's a good thing
