Four. Ike, Marth, Little Mac, and Greninja. I was playing Xenoblade again recently and it's gotten me really excited for Shulk. Such a wealth of moves to choose from. I wonder if they'll keep the UK voice actors.

"I want items in tournaments. I want stage hazards in tournaments. Then I might actually watch boring competitive play." Real quotes, real people. What these people don't know is what it's like to play the game for money.

People are already freaking out about the invitational/Best Buy demos. I think the situation would get worse if more people thought the unfinished version of the game was the final product.

It was surprisingly good. The biggest problem would be how dashing, and by extension the movement game, is exceptionally stiff and restrictive.

Sakurai's response was badass but I agree the question was super disrespectful, especially to the guy who does so much work on the game personally. If someone who could contact Sakurai more directly could send a brief, simple apology from the community I'd be all for that.

This can be summarized by the conversation at the E3 roundtable: Journalist: I bet I could beat you in Smash Bros. I'm a competitive player. Let me help balance the game. Sakurai: Have you ever made a game? They have been more involved with the competitive community than ever, now let's let...

Sorry, but if this is your understanding of how Smash is played competitively, I'd keep my speculation down to technical aspects and stay away from talking about the metagame. Let's wait for the established players to comment on their tournament experience for that.

Japan has no idea what "Punch-Out!!" is? You mean that series called "パンチアウト!!", they just don't know it?

Like the argument seems to be it's a casual ruleset because it differs from the standard "competitive" ruleset we use. That's a a fact. Competitive would mean that everyone is playing to win, and I doubt the Romans, when throwing several gladiators into the ring, thought of it being casual.

Items don't mean a match is suddenly casual. Many of the players will be quite keen on taking home the title. Since they're competing in a competition, it's competitive.

If it was strictly about winning, they would have invited the best players. With the nature of the invitational, everyone's interested in trying out the newcomers
