Setting up Project M and 20XX

UPDATE: I tried out a bigger SD card and put 20XX on it and now it is working

Setting up Project M and 20XX

Hi everyone! I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, because it is both Project M and Melee related... I'm trying to setup 20XX and Project M on my Wii at the same time. While Project M already works, I encountered the following problem with 20XX: My USB is NTFS-formatted and I can't load...

Dislcaimer: I'm not a top player I'll do some annotations, too... Going through these micro-situations will definitely benefit your Melee, but there might be methods that would benefit you at a faster pace. Annotating everything can take long and often a big portion of your attention will be on...

The foxtrot/double dash is really useful in that kind of situation, so you don't transition into run and can still pivot grab. I prefer it over wavedash there because of the startup and being actionable at all times.

Seems like in the window where one can jump out, mixing up between sh up-air (vs no jump) and fj up-air (vs jump) might work. There also might be situations where using the double jump could be beneficial, but I am not quite sure when this applies.

@Kotastic One thing to look out for is that getup animations can vary dependent on whether they land on back or stomach. Onn which side they land depends on what hitstun-animation (there are multiple) and on which frame of that animation they land. For example, let's take getup attack: Back...

2 SDI + ASDI doesn't require fast movements if you know at which timing they hit. If they have the opportunity to mix up the timing, 2 SDI requires very fast movement. Reference, especially the part from 3:54 on covering "burst SDI".

This sounds simplistic but what has helped me for fighting in threatening range is repositioning quickly and attacking immediately afterwards (like short dash away-> dash in -> sh fair). The idea is to avoid the direct attempt to hit you and counterattack. In threatening range, it is important...

My interpretation would be the following: Marth doing relatively well against Fox while being the less common character gives the Marth players a matchup knowledge advantage, which explains why they do well against Fox. Because there are so many Fox players, Marth mains go further in bracket...

@Dr Peepee Any tips on mid-match adaptation / learning while playing? Making a decision about the current situation and learning from the previous interactions feel like very complicated multi-tasking together. Improvement in terms of strategy and knowledge also tends to happen more in match...

I like rising fair or punishing their landing, for example with a grab, the most. The rising fair is aimed at their current position and you have to commit to it before you register the nair. It is quite solid all around and also happens to beat that option. If you aim for punishing the...

If you want to use a unit of measurement for distance, you could use the ingame unit (people apparently call it Mm for Meleemeters, which is pretty funny imo). Probably most important, you would be able to use ikneedata because it displays x and y-values and if you remember where the characters...

Official Ask Anyone Frame Things Thread

A question about tap resets (like with jabs etc...): Does it only work against missed tech (DownBound) and waiting afterwards (DownWait)? If that is the case, characters which have an getup option that isn't intangible from frame 1 on can use this to CC a late tap reset attempt and punish with...

@Kopaka Not a top player, but here are my observations: I think one of the biggest things that separates better from worse players is how they take the opponent's actions into account at every point of time at which a decision is to be made. Practicing the same tech without connecting it to the...

In the situation you presented, there are a lot of possible options. First and foremost, you want to have answers to the opponent's options, so knowing what beats the dash attack is key. Dash away, dash sh rising fair, true CC, anti-approach d-tilt, and dashing towards and past them would all...
