Some people just think that some characters are lost to time. Like Mike Jones from Startropics, or Geno and Mallow. It's because there has been nothing done with them in years and they are rarely if ever referred to by their creators/publishers.

Yes, it does hurt their chances slightly, however we could have another Greninja situation where they decided on it before the game even came out. If they aren't in the main game though, you can probably expect them to be some of the DLC fighters.
