Assuming it's the same as in Sm4sh, it would have poor horizontal range. Ridley's tail isn't thick enough to cover much space at once. Poor image quality aside, this should make it clear. The only way to somewhat fix it is by making him drag his tail closer/away from him.

But he had a downward tail stab in Other M and Samus Returns. The stomp is already present as well. I think the real problem is the range. Ultimate Ridley's tail is very long and it would have been hard to do much about him DAiring with that kind of range. It's more of a problem when it's all...

It really is and that Ridley theme remix (...it sounds like it) during the first part of the story is just great. But to be honest, I expected wanton murder to be a part of his fun activities in the begining. It's this thing after all.

Ridley in Ultimate is actually not any more humanoid than he normally is. They didn't change his proportions much either aside from maybe his wings (I'm saying maybe because it's hard to tell their true size when they are folded or he's moving).
