Smash newcomers are only announced at Nintendo-related events. They would never confirm a new character at another company’s presentation.

I think the really cool thing about the Space Invaders is that, if they were added, they would in all likelihood be the only character from the 1970s in the Smash roster. I can't think of any of any other games from that decade that could feasibly lend a fighter to the game.
