    Started the First Party Unique Newcomer tournament. Are you able to make a bracket for me? I'm finalizing the first round matches right now.

    If you just need me to set up an initial bracket that you can then manage going forward, I should probably be able to do that, so long as you give me a day or two to get it prepared. I think that's how we did it last time?

    I'm not super active on here right now and life's got me pretty busy. I wish I could help on a more consistent basis, but I'm not confident I'll be able to do so. I don't want you to be stuck waiting on me!

    Let me know if that sounds good or if you'd rather go a different direction. I'd understand either way.

    Oh, looks like you've actually finished the qualifying round and started! The Google Form should help keep things organized in the absence of a physical bracket. I can still make one for this round, or I can make up one at the very end to show the full results. Let me know what you have in mind.

    I started a first party newcomer tournament now that Ultimate DLC is over. It's set up a little differently from what you did, but hopefully you'll like it.

    Just wanted to let you know that I've been brainstorming candidates for a most wanted newcomer bracket for after all the DLC is released. I wanted to see what you think of it. These are the characters I have picked so far:

    As you can see, I have three bracket ideas, as opposed to the two you did last time. The third bracket would be for echo fighters (and it would have both first party and third party). Is there anything noteworthy I should add or perhaps take away? Would like for each bracket to have at least 32 noteworthy candidates (though if the echo bracket only has about 16, that's fine too).

    I will definitely take some of your ideas into consideration. Obviously, this list is not final because we still have more DLC left to be revealed (and frankly it is possible for us to get a bit more after FP2).

    • I'll consider that for Dixie Kong.
    • Those are definitely good ideas for series that I didn't think about.
    • I didn't think about that for Slippy & Peppy. I guess they would be Falco & Fox echoes respectively or the other way around?
    • Shadow does seem to be more talked about than Tails for an echo, but I feel like Tails would make more sense as an echo and should get in as playable before Shadow in my opinion (along with Eggman). Sonic, Tails (echo) and Eggman playable with Shadow, Knuckles and maybe more as ATs in the next game would be pretty solid.
    • Can't believe I forgot Neku. Added.
    • I don't see a difference between having Alph or Louie other than Alph representing the newer Pikmin game. Alph as an echo would have Rock Pikmin to differentiate.
    • Tom Nook would be a semi clone much like Isabelle in my opinion. I do think AC would be deserving of a third rep considering ACNH's popularity and Tom Nook would likely be next in line (and then probably KK Slider). Yeah, I was unsure of the Squid Sisters myself. I was just trying to think of a unique Splatoon newcomer.
    • I don't really consider Elma all that likely. If anything, I could see Rex being incorporated into Pyra/Mythra, as was seemingly originally intended.

    Yeah, sounds good! It will definitely be interesting to see what happens with these last two characters.
    FYI I don't think Elma is likely at all either, I was just basing that on terms of popularity. Excluding a generic Square-Enix thread, she has the sixth largest thread on the Newcomer Speculation subforum. I'm not sure how well interest for Rex will hold up now that his game has a lot of representation.

    Could argue that Elma will have lower interest too. I'd put Rex in the same boat as Chrom pre-Ultimate.

    True. I'm thinking there should be a Newcomer Bracket right after all DLC is released and then another one when the next game is inevitably announced. Would be interesting to see how people's votes change over time. Just have to wait and see who those final 2 characters are!

    Hey! I just finished watching the Direct after I got back from work. I had considered doing a DLC bracket for a while now, especially depending on how things play out. Only thing to decide now is what counts as disconfirmed as DLC. I haven't had time to figure out if there's a consensus on than yet. Whatever the case, I definitely agree that a combined bracket would be more fair now that characters like K. Rool and Ridley are out. I'm fine hosting it, or just participating if you have it covered. If I'm doing it, I would at least wait until people gather their thoughts on who is eligible for the game at this point. Are there even that many popular characters left over who haven't been seen in the game in some form?

    There were costumes of playable characters in Smash 4 after those fighters were made playable in the series though. There hasn't been a case of a Mii Fighter costume becoming playable afterwards in the same game. I would definitely consider ATs and Mii Fighter costumes as disconfirmations, unfortunately. Forgot that Starfy is an assist trophy. I'll definitely make some changes to the first party options.

    I also consider stage elements as disconfirmations (which reminds me that Pauline is then disconfirmed). I assume you mean Andy from Advance Wars?

    Personally, I don't see why the order of the costume has to matter all that much. We only have one game of Smash DLC so far to judge by, which I don't think is enough to make rules out of patterns. But hey, your call. And yes, I'm referring to Andy from Advance Wars. Not necessarily a series popular in the general public, but as a niche series it seems relatively well liked here on Smashboards.

    I don't know if you'd be willing to do a DLC bracket, but I have been planning one out anyways. Haven't done matches yet though. Just who would be participating.

    I've got 16 first party characters and 16 third party characters (obviously it wouldn't just be first party vs third party in all matches). I do think it would be good to combine them because of how many popular characters have already been disconfirmed for DLC in one way or another.
