Game Versions
Smash 3DS, Smash Wii U
King dedede is a very unique heavyweight, having a bunch of luxury's that most heavyweights don't have, I'll list a few.
  1. He has a great vertical recovery and horizontal recovery.
  2. He has floaty physics with 4 jumps, thus helping recovery.
  3. He has a decent projectile, the gordo.
Now that I listed some things that he has that other heavy characters don' t, let's talk about his moves and how to use them effectively.
  • His jab is long ranged and can kill at high percents, but your opponent can DI out of it before the last hit.
  • His forward tilt is great poking and racking up damage from a distance.
  • His down tilt is good for mix ups, as well as popping your opponent in the air witch can lead to follow ups.
  • His up tilt is quick but short range, if it does land it can combo into itself at low percents.
  • His dash attack is very slow and punishable, but if you can read a back roll then this move can kill extremely early near the ledge.
Now on to his aerials.
  • His Nair is a great get off me move and is good for racking up damage. You can short hop and fast fall with a Nair to crash right into your opponent.
  • His Fair is a good off stage kill move, it's pretty quick so use it often.
  • His Bair is one of his best kill moves, it comes out about as fast as his Fair, but Bair has more range and more knock back. A good kill set up is short hop to Bair for a grounded opponent. It also works great for an off stage kill move.
  • His up air is another great kill move, it's a muilti hit move that has a devastating finisher. If you can bait out an air dodge you can easily net yourself an easy kill with this move. Unlike Robs up air or ZSS up B your opponent will almost never slip out before the final hit.
  • His down air has sadly been nerfed from brawl, it used to be a downward version of his up air but now it's a single swing that can spike at mid to high percents. It's an ok move but he has better aerials.
Now his specials.
  • His neutral B is like Kirby's but he can't copy ability's with it, it's ok if if you want to kill yourself with 2 stock and your opponent has 1 stock, but other than that it doesn't have much use.
  • His side B is his gordo toss, it can be good to annoy or catch an opponent off guard, it can also be used to edge guard or use it to scare off someone trying to edge guard you! The only problem is that the gordo's can be hit back at you, so they shouldn't be spammed.
  • His down B can be used as a chargeable smash attack that you can move around in, but you can be hit out of it so use it sparingly.
  • His up B is a long range vertical recovery, it does a lot of damage and can kill, it's also hard to punish because of the stars locking opponents from grabing. Just make sure you grab the ledge or you will fall to your doom, you can also cancel it at any time by pushing up, leaving you in a helpless state.
and finally his grabs.
  • His pumble is not very good, it's slow so your opponent can easily break out of it.
  • His up throw isn't very good ether, it does decent damage, but no real combo potential.
  • His forward throw and back throw are very similar, they don't kill but can send your opponent off stage.
  • His down throw can combo to Fair then fast fall to Nair for some good free damage, and a kill set up is down throw to up air at high percents. something you can do is down throw, bait out an air dodge, then follow up with an up air for an easy kill.
Thanks for reading my first character guide! Hope this helped!
