Our official tournament page!

Time for our June Smash tournaments at Side Scrollers!

Tournament Date: June 8th, 2019 & June 22, 2019. This specific thread is for the 8th.

Pre-register to ensure your spot at our tournament! You can pre-register over the phone at 201-267-6332 (this is our storefront's phone number).

Pre-registered players must arrive before 2:50PM. Arriving after 2:50PM means forfeiting your pre-registered spot to a walk-in. Tournament begins at 3:00PM!

Venue/Entry Information:
  • $5 Venue Fee (This goes to the American Cancer Society), $5 Entry Fee (Entry Fee will be put into the prizing pool!).
  • $2 Discount to Venue Fee if we may use your Adapter, Switch, and/or game! $5 discount if it is a full set up!

Tournament Dates, Location, & Registration Information:
  • June 8th, 2019
  • Location: Side Scrollers, 116 Park Avenue, East Rutherford, NJ 07073
  • Expected attendance: 18-36 participants.
  • Parking: Free street parking. There's also a FREE municipal parking lot of about 40 spaces on Boiling Springs Ave, the street that runs parallel to Park Avenue. We mandate that all attendees to NOT park at the "Caffe Capri parking lot" across the street from our venue. That is a private parking lot.
  • Live Stream: There will be a possible live stream of feature matches, such as all finals matches and previous tournament winner pairings.
  • Food/Drink: Snacks and drinks will be available for sale, such as chips, soda, water, monster, chocolate and more.
  • If you drop out of the tournament, please be sure to leave the venue as we cannot leave the game room crowded for too long for fire safety reasons. Once we hit the top 16 this will no longer be a concern.

Prizes:
1st Place: 60% of Entry Fees - 2nd Place: 25% of Entry Fees - 3rd Place: 15% of Entry Fees

Controller Information:
  • GameCube controllers will be available to rent for an additional $2. Limited quantity.
  • All controllers are permitted unless they produce an undue advantage compared to an original Switch or GameCube controller (such as an AutoFire button). If you are unsure please speak to a Tournament Official. This rule also applies to other peripherals.
  • Tournament officials will check controllers at sign up.
  • We highly suggest that all wireless pro controllers have USB cables to expedite the syncing process and to make sure they maintain battery.
  • We also highly suggest that players use wired controllers so transition between matches moves more smoothly. If you drop out please make sure your controller does not cause any interference. This means not pressing a single button during someone else’s match.
  • Players are expected to come with fully charged controllers if they are wireless. You can charge your controllers on the Switches but please note that you would be fully liable for them.

Rules/Settings In-Game:
Sets will be Best of 3 battles, with Loser’s, Winner’s, and Grand Finals all being Best of 5 (We may forgo Best of 5 for Winner’s and Loser’s sets if time constraints do not allow them)
Remember that this is double elimination - you will be dropped out of the tournament if you lose 2 sets!
In-game ruleset:
  • Stock: 3 Lives
  • Time: 7 minutes
  • Pause will be disabled.
  • Score Display: On
  • Final Smash Meter: Off
  • Items: Banned

Additional Rules:
Mii Fighters & DLC:
Mii Fighters are allowed in all variations. Players that make Mii Fighters have a maximum of 2 minutes to create their movesets and cannot change those movesets in between matches. The reason for this is not to waste time on creating multiple movepools. This rule may change in the future. DLC fighters are legal unless they only been out for a week or less.

Coaching:
Coaching is not permitted during a set/match. Cheering is perfectly fine!
1st violation: Verbal warning to both player and coach
2nd violation: Player receiving the coaching advice will receive game loss. Coach will be excused from venue.
3rd violation: Player is disqualified from event.

Sudden Death:
If a game goes to Sudden Death, the winner is determined by stocks and percentage at the time the game ends. If both players are tied in stocks, the player with the lower percentage is the winner. In the event of a percentage tie, or a game in which both players lose their last stock simultaneously, a 1-stock tiebreaker will be played with a 3-minute time limit.

Tardiness:
If you are 5 minutes late for your set you will receive an automatic disqualification.

Collusion:
Collusion is cheating. Players suspected of collusion will be disqualified from the tournament and possible future tournaments, as well as receive no refund and no payout from the event. This includes intentionally throwing a game, pot splitting, or committing any form of bracket manipulation.

Gentlemen Agreements:
No gentlemen agreements allowed. Players must adhere to tournament rules. If players are unsure on a rule interpretation, they are responsible for asking a Tournament Official for clarification. If players are playing a match that are not in accordance to the venue's rules, both players are subject to a game loss and/or disqualification.

Spirit of the Game/Player Behavior:
  • Players must abide by the Spirit of the Game (no pun intended). Players are expected to show good sportsmanship to other competitors. We do not wish to ever to make this an unwelcome venue to any player!
  • Players are expected to adhere to our venue and tournament rules. If a player behaves in a manner that is deemed detrimental or disrespectful to our community or staff, that player will be excused from the venue and in some instances, banned from our venue. This includes but not limited to yelling/fighting with other players or Tournament Officials, coming to the venue visibly intoxicated or otherwise under the influence, intentionally damaging store or customer property, etc.
Final Rules:
Tournament Officials reserve the right to adjust and enforce tournament rules at their own discretion or to enact others during the event. If any violation of our rules is deemed intentional/deliberate or severe, or if we see any form of other types of cheating, we will require offending player(s) to leave venue without refund and no payout. Any disqualification, no matter the severity, will mean no refund and no payout.
