Is it weird that my second moveset contribution also happens to be a cat? Hrm... oh well. Enjoy my submission (and see a stage submission below)! I've also introduced a new aspect, if you don't mind:
As you might recall, Nature Cat's copy attacks are meant to be more flawed than the original neutral special. Introducing ones for every other character could make for fun side jobs, but I'll trial it here for now. Also remember that since it's his down special, he can also actually copy
, unlike Kirby. But anyways, onto another cat...
Sagwa
Series: Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat
First Appearance: How Sagwa Got Her Colors (September 3, 2001)
"For many generations, it has been our family's honor to write down the official scrolls of all the Magistrates of this province." ~Sagwa
This adorable calligrapher-in-training is ready to represent her province in Brawltime! Compared to certain other cat characters from PBS' vast catalogue, Sagwa's relatively down-to-earth, being one of the few quadruped characters on the roster for one. She is also smaller than average, making her harder to hit... which is quite advantageous, as she also doesn't hit as hard and is way easier to launch. But, she also has great mobility, running fast and jumping high! Fight with the honor and fast-paced grace of a feline, and you may just write out a victorious story with her...
Gimmick: Predatory Mode
Her Neutral Special puts Sagwa into a temporary "Predatory State" where she enters a pre-pounce pose (with a cute mischievous look on her face). From here, she can then perform three new light attacks depending on the next pressed direction. These can't be charged, however; They're meant to be quick moves to catch the opponent off guard! Also, while not part of the "gimmick," Down Special is a reference to a mechanic in a possible 3D platformer based on the show (for context, this was made to coincide with Sagwa's Brawltime! appearance in our made-up universe).
Light Neutral: Kung Fu Claw
As silly as her brother Dongwa's obsession with martial arts is, it seems Sagwa took a bit of inspiration from him! In this attack, she briefly stands on two legs and does a simple palm (or... paw?) strike forward. The charged version has her expose her claws and strike with more force for more damage, but will comically trip over afterwards adding a much weaker second hitbox. Fun fact, this move was also inspired by one of Kung Fu Man's specials in MUGEN.
Light Up: Calligrapher's Honor
Utilizing skills from her main profession, Sagwa turns around and performs several artful upward strikes with her tail! It's pretty fluffy, so it has a nice big hitbox... well, as big as it can be for someone of her size. The charged version is particularly beautiful; while charging, the animation will be of her dipping her tail in a small ink pot. Then, her strikes are even more precise, with a visible black ink trail in the air! She has quite the proud look on her face while performing this version of the attack.
Light Down: Cat & Mouse
One of the mice friends of Sagwa appears and playfully runs around her, dealing a weak amount of damage to anyone close to her on either side. The charged attack has the mouse running faster (dealing more damage) before getting dizzy, causing Sagwa to giggle at their antics. A good variety of mouse designs appear in this attack, but it's just aesthetic and doesn't affect the move's properties.
Neutral Special: Predatory Stance/Attacks
The part you've probably been waiting for! As mentioned before, Sagwa will enter a pose, as if she's about the pounce. From there, press any direction or the special button again for these fast-paced but weaker attacks, best for catching an opponent off-guard:
Neutral: A command grab pounce where she latches onto the opponent for a brief moment and swipes at them with her claws!
Up: She pounces upwards and shoots down a badminton shuttlecock with her tail! Yup, she has a little projectile now. If an opponent is really close, they can also be hit by her initial pounce for some fun combos.
Down: A pseudo-command grab where she runs forward. If an opponent is nearby during this run, she'll then run around them in circles. She's not invincible, but still harder to hit away. After a little while, if the opponent has failed to get her off them, they'll get dizzy!
Left/Right: She'll "pounce retreat" away in the direction you choose. This one is just a useful dodge option, but she's left wide open afterwards so don't carelessly dodge into the path of an opponent.
Up Special: Fu-Fu's Assistance
Sagwa's clumsy bat friend Fu-Fu appears and carries her upward! He's not the best flyer, so he'll do a goofy loop while he carries her, which might make recovery trickier. Crashing into a wall will end the move, but he can also crash into other opponents to deal damage!
Down Special: Wisdom of the Spirits
This is that move inspired by the 3D platformer that's introduced with Sagwa's Brawltime! appearance. This is a chargeable move where Sagwa will enter a zen pose... the more she charges, the more a dragon spirit will swirl around her. Ending the move at any time will unleash a burst of colorful flames, which of course is stronger and wider-reaching the more it's charged. At full charge, the explosion is unleashed immediately, so timing is key as well if you wish to land a devastating blow...
Nature Cat Copy:
Nature Cat is a lot more of a cartoonish anthro cat, and his "predatory abilities" are nowhere near ones from a more realistic cat like Sagwa. But still, he tries his best, entering a "scary pose" that probably looked more threatening in his head, before automatically "pouncing" forward while comically spinning in all directions... almost as if he tried to combine all of the separate commands into one. Of course, this just results in him crashing to the ground, but it can still hit opponents!
Entrance:
Sagwa confidently pounces onto the stage before bowing for a quick moment,
Taunt:
Sagwa catches in her mouth and quickly munches a piece of seafood that flies in from offscreen (most likely tossed to her by the friendly Chef).
Victory Animation:
Sagwa's parents & siblings, as well as the Foolish Magistrate and his family & servants, watch proudly as Sagwa writes out a declaration of victory on a scroll, then all happily pose together!
Losing Animation:
Sagwa briefly wipes away a tear in her eye, before bowing honorably and clapping for the winner.
