Roy, whilst seemingly a peculiar choice, was highly requested in Japan(2nd after Mewtwo at one point even).
Heck; he's Japan's favourite Lord overall as voted in a recent poll and was the lord of the game that first saved FE as a series in Japan during a declining interest in the series. The second lull being just before Awakening.
