Well that’s offensive

As an autistic person, I have full control over what I do and don't identify with and find empowering, and I'd personally much rather be compared to a felt manchild from a 2010s kids' movie than some respectability-politics-compatible savant BS like the Good Doctor or Mozart.

As long as you don't force your headcanon onto others I don't see a problem

I know we’re talking about a silly muppets headcanon here and this sounds a bit pretentious for a silly post, but it‘s a rejection of the concept of storytelling to suggest that people aren’t allowed to see their own experiences or identify with characters who aren’t explicitly said to be like them.

If anything I feel offended by the implication that as an austistic person, I can’t explore it through media that’s not explicitly about autism.

Yeah well see how you feel after more than 30 years of negative stereotypes in media, people projecting onto characters that back up those stereotypes and people ignoring the actual story to make their head canons fit. Seeing a character with an obsession and concluding they must be autistic is no better that slapping the autism label on whatever scientist you’ve got knocking about
